  1. With some luck, I should be able to more or less finish writing the piece by tonight, and some tentative mastering. Then, when PriZm finishes with the guitar parts, I'll try to wrap everything up nicely.

same here. i'm just waiting on PriZm to send me gweetar parts. then, i'll record my sax parts and have it done the next day.

    Pressure's on me 8)

Prophet: there are a couple of things I'd like to discuss regarding arrangement so I won't be recording guitars this weekend. I'll most likely spend the weekend recording Spc1st guitars and next week tweaking your song if that's alright.

of course. can you email me your questions?

  2. i wound up prchasing an m-audio mobilepre USB preamp, and a marshall electronics MXL V57M studio condenser microphone. i got both for around 180 dollars, plus shipping.

i was talking to a guy in the studio at my school, and he suggested the preamp simply because then, if i ever wanted to upgrade, i could get different microphones instead of having only one that I could ever use.

i got the preamp today, and i'm waiting on the microphone still.

has anyone ever tried one of these preamps? what's your take on them?

  3. Just so everyone knows, the reason that I'm not going around setting a specific due date is more so that I don't feel disappointed when you guys fail to meet that deadline-- again.

That said, the ACTUAL deadline, is from this point onward, Right now. Always. ASAP. When I say 'ASAP' I don't mean 'when you have time' I mean 'make time, and finish it, asshead.'

do you put an asshat or an asscap on an asshead? what about an asstoque? or an assbeanie?

  4. after a lot of searching, i've decided on purchasing a USB preamp, and then purchasing seperately a condenser mike for my stuff. I'm looking at the M-Audio MobilePre, and the Marshall MXL V57M mike. any suggestions? Keep in mind money issues - I can get both of these, and the cables and shockmount, for about $210.

  5. I'm interested in purchasing a new microphone for recording saxophone and other instruments. It's gotta sound good, be relatively cheap, and (most importantly) HOOK UP TO MY COMPUTER in some way or form since I don't own a sampler or mixing board to run it through. I've looked around on several different sites, but i'm interested in feedback from people who use this kind of stuff regularly (or semi-regularly). Any suggestions on this?

  6. Speaking of the website, I still don't know where to find it... can someone pm me a url in case it's not appropriate to post it openly here in this thread?

And speaking of PM's, I've updated my song and I think it's finished, or nearly so. I want you to listen to it. I'll send a link to prophet and aetherius, because they seem more in charge than the rest of you, but if anyone else wants to listen, just tell me and I'll pm you too.

s'good to know someone cares =). btw, check your oms for the link.

  7. What whould you recommend I do to eliminate clipping using a very basic setup:

    Soundblaster Live 5.1 card.

    Cooledit 2

    Basic "came-with-the-PC" 2 speaker setup

Don't ask about my sequencer, it doesn't do shit. (Unless you know anything about Music 2000)

M2K exports the tracks as 44100 16bit .wav (a setting I can't change until I get the .wav into cooledit) so I only have the one wav to work with.

Clipping: The bane of newbie and pro alike.

holy shit, a two year old thread ressurected.

basically, clipping comes from the audio being too loud. if it's clipping on everything (headphones as well as 2 speaker setup) and it just sounds distorted, turn it down. in general, when a mix gets clipping, just turn the damn thing down a few notches and you'll be fine.

  8. Or you could get it from the official FL Studio shop via their website and get the lifetime free upgrades. Those don't come with the boxed versions you buy elsewhere (although they're an option you can buy later)

you can purchase the lifetime free upgrades for like 30 bucks, man, through the website.

  9. It was cool when it pioneered the concept, but running a whole extra application for slicing I think is lame.

Nonetheless, ReCycle is used on a regular basis, particularly in the sampling industry. It is the ideal program for taking raw WAV data and turning it into usable grooves which can then be sold. If you already HAVE a loop or a groove, and it's just for your own personal use, then chances are no, ReCycle will probably not be just what you need because often times you will be doing more with the groove then just chopping it. But for purely doing that (and for doing it well), ReCycle comes out on top.

Prophet; it's only $200, actually, and it's as low as $100 with an educational discount.

i checked propellorheads.se, but that discount would be really nice. REEEEEALY nice.

now, how does the standalone beatslicer that FL offers on their site (BeatSlicer or BeatQuantizer) compare to ReCycle?

  10. Yeah, ReCycle is 249$ US. i'll look into some of the other vsti slicers that you've mentioned, though.

oh, and compyfox, for gods sake...it's not like i'm insulting you or something. i made it clear the reason i posted a seperate topic - to get more feedback than what i'd get in a sample request thread (since, after all, i'm talking about purchasing some pricey software). starting a thread about possibly purchasing a rather expensive piece of software isn't that uncommon, or wrong...especially when you want some solid opinions from solid mixers (which I got).

depending on what i see with those other vsti's, i might purchase them. but like sgx said, i don't like an extra program for just slicing...especially when it's not my sole source for creating music, like some guys who are bigger into d'n'b than i am.

  11. Do you want a slice player like Dr Rex, or a Slice Maker? What are you doing with the sliced audio? Rearranging the slices or just using it for time stretching?

ReCycle is a standalone slicer that makes rex files. Lots of plugins can read these files such as Cakewalk RXP, Cakewalk Dimension Pro, probably a lot of the commercial drum samplers, and I'm sure plenty I don't know about.

There is one slick vsti plug that is able to import, slice, and then play back the sliced stuff like dr rex all by itself. It's called LiveSlice.

well, since i'm not having fun doing all the re-arranging in Reason, like i could in FL, i'd like to do some messing with the slice pattern and the like, if possible. sgx, have you used ReCycle? what's your opinion, for doing arrangement...should I stick with rex files or should i purchase a standalone?

  12. Er... You didn't ask in the VSTi thread again, did you? Or did you look at KVR?

That's the second time now that you ignore stickyfied threads and do researches on your own!!!

i use reason, so I can't use vsts, right?

as for kvr, I had no idea that they had standalone programs as well. my bad.
