  1. I would never share my commercial samples. No way I'd risk voiding my license for samples that I pay for.

SAM Brass is available in Kontakt format as well. Kontakt can run as a VST plugin.

I have the version 1.0 of the SAM Horns. It's nice, though I had Gigastudio32 which is freaking useless and nowhere near worth it's price tag (Felt like a $100 demo program.) which is why none of my stuff has used it.

Then I discovered Kontakt Player. It has made me fall in love with Kontakt. I shall be getting my copy of the full version tomorrow. Now I just need to side-grade my SAM Horns to the curent version.

Still no suggestions for Orchestral saxes or euphonium? :(

first off, there are few orchestras that actually use saxes on a regular basis for serious music...because the symphony orchestra was already set up and had music for hundreds of years before the saxophone came around. some pieces, like 'Pictures at an Exhibition', use it, but not many. cause people are stupid and don't realize that the saxophone is the most versatile instrument in the orchestra.

if you want classical saxophone sounds, good luck. because of the jazz influence that the saxophone has had on modern culture for approx the last 80 years, classical saxophone gets looked over in general. especially when it comes to samples. either get a recording of the part, of find a jazz sf that doesn't sound that bad. the one on darkesword's site isn't that bad, as long as you don't go too high on the alto, and you don't go too low on the tenor. pm me for more info on ranges and the like.

euphonium? well, depends on what you're looking for. if you're looking for a baritone (the two are often mixed up), then just use a trombone. if you're looking for a true euphonium sound...well, here's what i do. I combine a french horn and tbone sound. but i take the edge off of the french horn with a filter and compresson, and the same with the tbone sound. the main idea is that the upper ranges should sound clear as a bell, like a horn, but the lower ranges should sound less like a farty horn and more like a mellow trombone. the middle should be a sort of amalgum. last time i used euphonium, i used the way i did above, and went through and individually velocitized both parts to make it work. took too long. just dont' use a euphonium. takes too long.

remember that vibrato is an essential element for both horn and saxophone - especially saxophone. euphonium that's played well has some vibrato, but not a huge amount. saxophone, played well, should have a large amount of vibrato. pm me and i'll send you a sample

    wow, that's a lot.

  2. hey

how about Marin's Dream or Bubble on a Needle ?

they are both quotes from the game if I remember correctly and Bubble on a Needle is quite cool.

    Marin's Dream :

    PRO : none

CON : It's too specific, Marin's just a character from the game, although a main one. Furthermore, it's not even Marin's dream.

    Bubble on a Needle :

PRO : Well, it's something unique

CON : It doesn't fit the project mood, needle is not a melancholic word.

depends on what you use the needle in conjunction with.

EDIT: wait, fancy clever names? what the hell do you name a saxophone concerto (aria, if you will) of Face Shrine?

  3. sweet lord.

when you signed onto the project, you implicitly (sp?) agree to the rules that the project coordinator set down. that's just how it is. so, if Aeth doesn't like something that you've got, QUIT YOUR BITCHING. you're just re-enforcing your immature qualities. Aeth didn't like my original strings in my song, so i changed them, and now it sounds better. that wasn't that hard, was it?

THIS is what he's trying to prevent.

THIS is what you should do.

  4. the Final Battle theme (it screams prog rock, I'm telling you :)).

Did someone say prog rock? Well then, that someone better call Christian Pacaud or PriZm for this thing! :P

    i like PriZm. he's good.

wait, what happened to the whole ambient or orchestral thing? i'm done with a chill classical track, so someone better not tell me i coulda tranced this and been done like two weeks earlier.

  5. Hey Starky, can I call you Starky?

Anyway Starky, did you enjoy It's My Turn to Dream at all? Just curious. Also, I am looking forward to trying a broad soundscape involving lots of dreamy synths, acoustic drumset, minimal orchestral elements such as strings and solo winds, and live played classical acoustic guitar. You can also count on a lot of tastefully applied reverb, filters, and maybe some subtle distortion.

I'll pick a track by tommorrow night, if not by the end of tonight.

    -chth

    i hate it when people actually know what they're doing...cause I don't.

  6. HOw do I get not vst plugins to...ork...i've been trying to find something to tell me -.- bleh

well, you could always use your help file.

    or type real words.

if its an instrument plugin, put it in the plugins directory of your FLStudio stuff under where it goes (VST, hint hint). then, go into fl, go under where you add channels, click ADD and the refresh button at the bottom of the window that opens up. you should be able to figure it out from there.

if its an effect, same thing but get to the effects plugins window through the FX window.

  7. If you have another disc drive in your computer, try that one.

    or

Try exploring the CD and copying the orkester.rfl into your Reason program folder.

    or

    Contact propellerhead tech support.

this is the first time i've ever used reason, so according to the getting started thing i need to use the disc even if i copied it to the hard drive.

i can't contact customer support cause this isn't my copy of reason.

  8. How do you set the piano roll to use a different time signature? I've managed it to be like 6/8 by adjusting the gridlines, but what about X/4 where X could be 3,5,6,7 etc?

i don't know what the heck splunkle is talking about, so i'm not even gonna go there.

if you want different time signatures, there's two ways to do it. for a whole song, set the 'project settings' to whatever you want it at. play with it till its right.

if you want different patterns to be different amounts of beats, hurrs whatcha doo.

like splunkle said, the '--' in the top left corner of the step sequencer changes the X in X/4. now, since each pattern can be different lengths, you need to know how to put in a five-beat long block into the playlist, or however many beats it is when its not a multiple of four. by selecting the playlist and pressing 3 (or, zoom to the closest setting) and you should be able to click in the patterns into the playlist exactly how you want it to be...because instead of four-beat bars being the lines for the grid, each beat is a line. therefore, any wierd time signature will fit in.

    that make sense?
