  1. This sucks, I woke up with a sore neck, so I figured I'd go over to TF2 and craft a few things as long as I was awake... right before I went to craft something, it awarded Golden Wrench 87 to someone. and I couldn't help but think "That should have been me."
  2. Someone pointed out to me that it doesn't look quite like the standard sentry gun.
  3. If you can really move built sentry guns, that would be crazy.
  4. I doubt it, since this is a "community-made surprise;" the PDQ was Valve-made.
  5. Speaking of which, we're 2 away from 75 being awarded, which implies we'll have another update page soon.
  6. I hear he got VAC banned because he was using a script to craft and uncraft metal as fast as possible before the uncraft metal recipes were removed.
  7. And, in fact, there appears to be an achievement for exactly that. Of course, that only helps you for spies that don't sneak up BEHIND you (i.e. Dead Ringer spies or stupid spies).
  8. If the Engy update is like the rest, you can make an educated guess on the remaining item(s) by checking the achievement list, which was also posted today. Granted, it's only the names and images so far. At least two achievements imply a guitar (Honky Tonk Man and Six-String Stinger (which is a taunt deathcam one)).
  9. Oh, Valve just announced this: "Note: To ensure everyone gets the chance to pull the lever, we've increased the weekly item drop limit for this week only. So if you thought you'd hit your item cap, think again!" Also, new Valve-designed Payload map "Upward".
  10. New Item: The Wrangler. Lets you manually aim your sentry gun, doubles its firing rate for guns, and slightly increases rocket shooting speed, AND gives it a shield that absorbs 66% damage. The downside is that your sentry stops shooting for 3 seconds if you change weapons. Edit: Valve removed the item drop cap this week.
  11. Nope, it's tied directly to daily awards. That's why both are awarded at the same time. I got the Sapper Global award when I got my latest Sapper daily award (this morning).
  12. If you want to, go right ahead. *Global awards are whomever got the most daily awards of that type in the last 30 days, though, so... good luck! * I do wonder why they're still called Global awards, seeing as how this behavior changed when we updated from HLStatsX 1.6.2 to 1.6.6. It used to be they really WERE global.
  13. An optional update for Counter-Strike: Source is now available. Please run hldsupdatetool to receive the update. The specific changes include: Counter-Strike: Source: - Fixed a crash that could occur after the bomb exploded. - Fixed a crash that could occur when attempting to exit the game. - Changed default values of the following server variables to reflect the increase of the default tick rate from 33 to 66: - sv_mincmdrate - 10 - sv_maxcmdrate - 66 - sv_maxupdaterate - 66 - Marked 'developer' cvar as cheat. - Corrected kill/death reporting in gun games. Deaths were not being properly counted in games using instant respawn. - Marked test_round_winpanel, test_match_winpanel, test_freezepanel commands as cheats. - Added sv_nowinpanel and cl_nowinpanel options that can be used to disable the win panel that displays the team winner, MVP, and fun fact at the end of a round. - Clamped ladder dampen values. - Fixed jointeam cvar so giving it invalid values no longer spams the server console. - Removed functionality of cl_minmodels. - Fixed voice indicators to display at all times rather than just after their respective players have come into contact when -alltalk is on. - Fixed scoreboard to display correct number of SourceTV viewers. - Adjusted death notices to display under scoreboard. - Defaulted 'Simplified list' to OFF and made the setting persistent. - Fixed an issue that could make it appear as if a player already had one or more MVP stars upon joining a server. - Made text on loading bar more legible. - Added more materials that were missing for community maps. Engine: - Fixed disconnect exploit causing players to be forced off of a server due to an overflowed packet. - Fixed players being able to start the game using a DirectX level less than DirectX8. Windows Dedicated Server: - Added Counter-Strike: Source to the list of games for the dedicated server when running through the Steam client. An update on the Update The reason for the recent update was to move Counter-Strike Source (CSS) from the older HL2 version of the Source engine to the most recent version. This brings the CSS codebase in-line with our other games. This resolves long standing issues associated with the older engine and allows us to benefit from features and bug fixes in other source games as they come online, such as improved graphic effects and more accurate hit registration. During this process we created some unintended side effects, these are bugs. We are actively investigating all reports. A good example of this is bullet penetration changing on Linux Servers only; not Windows Servers. This was a subtle bug to track down and understand. It has been fixed. Rest assured we will continue to fix old and new CSS bugs. We want to retain the CSS gameplay experience that you know and love. We would also like to thank everyone reporting bugs and posting constructive feedback. This is an invaluable part of the process. The CSS Team Server has been updated and restarted.
  14. Engine Update: Engine: - Fixed disconnect exploit causing players to be forced off of a server due to an overflowed packet. - Fixed players being able to start the game using a DirectX level less than DirectX8. This is being applied as part of a Counter-Strike: Source update right now. RED has been restarted, I'm leaving BLU for later.
  15. Correction, it WAS listed as my favorite map the last time I checked a few days ago. cp_steel is my favorite map now, according to stats. Also, I finally swiped the Sapper award from whomever had it... MWAHAHAHA! One last thing: 1 more Wrench to #50, so I hope you're ready for Engineer Update Day 2.
  16. /agree I had been leaving every other time its been coming up for a while. cp_dustbowl is listed as my most played map in my Stats. I'll let you draw your own conclusions here.
  17. So yeah, it sounds like the Golden Wrench is gotten randomly while crafting other items. Valve has disabled the recipe to convert larger metal types into smaller ones for the time being. Also, the new Engineer Shotgun (Frontier Justice) has been revealed... except teamfortress.com is still laggy. Basically, it has half the magazine size of the shotgun, never crits normally, but crits twice for every sentry gun kill and once for every sentry gun kill assist... and gets an unspecified number of crits when the sentry gun is destroyed.
  18. So, if you haven't heard, the main page for the Engineer Update is now live. And lagging, seeing as how everyone is trying to hit steamcommunity.com and teamfortress.com at once. But... only 100 golden wrenches?
  19. I hope there is... I bought all three DLC packs along with Borderlands, not realizing that Moxxi and Dr. Ned both have SecuROM DRM on them. I filed a ticket with Steam support to have those two refunded. I also stopped my Borderlands download and deleted its cache, as this DLC apparently integrates into the main game's download. Note: The original game and Armory don't have SecuROM in their Steam versions. As a side note, there are still two more Daily sales to go. I wasn't sure if there was going to be a Sunday 10am PDT to Monday 9:59am PDT one, but Valve said earlier today that there would be. For that matter, the entire sale ends just before 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 5pm UTC / 6pm BST Monday.
  20. I posted this in the admin group, but I guess I need to post it here too. Please do not kick or ban Kagami. Kagami is the SourceTV bot.
  21. Oh right, I forgot to mention that I restarted the server earlier today due to yesterday's TF2 update that included the following engine fixes (which affect CS:S): * Fixed some graphical issues when alt-tabbing during a game. * Fixed bullet penetration problems with Linux dedicated server. * Removed an exploit that allowed people to change their names to something other than their Steam profile name
  22. I'm surprised some enterprising individual hasn't offered to buy the domain name yet. Say... that's a good idea... *emails virt* (haha, just kidding, virt hates me)
  23. We have identified the problem as the Arena Team size plugin. If it's enabled, the server crashes on startup. We have disabled it. RED has been restarted, and I'm restarting BLU on map change.
  24. er... actually, it wasn't me that shut it down. But whatever.
