  1. Allow me, if I may, to throw in a few words that could be seen as negative. To begin, I enjoy this mix a great deal. It's professional and put together quite well. The lyrics make sense and work well for the sound and feel of this song. The lyrics themselves are not goofy at all, which is an admirable feat for this kind of piece. That said, I can't help but feel slighly embarrassed when I listen to this. Embarrassed in the same way I am when I listen to "Eight Bit Eighties" or "Relax". While it works well as a tribute to both Robo and a particular style of music it doesn't hold up too well on it's own, I'm afraid. That said, I am enjoying this. Against my better judgement. But it won't be going on my CDs for work. It probably won't even find it's way onto a playlist. It's great for what it is, and the work put into it is admirable, but overall it's nothing amazing. A great tribute, but not much else. Of course this is just one man's opinion, the opinon of a man who has no idea about how to even go about making something like this. So don't take it too hard, Star. You have shown your talent once again, even if it isn't in my particular tastes. And for that you deserve my admiration.
  2. Wow. That's more than I could ever make out. The general gist (I think) is that this guy regrets ever going to his friend's house, because now his life is spent playing Pac-Man. "No puedo dejar" "I cannot quit." "La vida está sólo jugar, jugar" "My life is only to play, to play." I'm not too sure about the rest... yet. Oh. As this is also the review forum... I love this song. I actually use it in my Spanish Class on the second day. I tell these kids that we're going to listen to some music in spanish and then ask them to listen carefully to the lyrics. I tell them it's about something dear to me from my childhood. And they all love it. So far this song has been a hit. So if you're listening Sinergia (after oh so many years), WE LOVE IT! Nosotros amamos su cancion. Cantan mas, por favor. No vivo con solo cuatro canciones. Necesitamos mas. Gracias.
  3. So I just gots me some Super Punch-Out and I'm going crazy. My adreneline is pumping and my hands are shaking. I didn't see me some Super Punch-Out anywhere in this list (but an old man's memory is fuzzy) so I'm going to bring some. Hoy Quarlow. I know he's not technically a boss, but goddamn is this guy hard. I can't knock him down. He's just too fast. I've seen his moves, I've even tried to study the telegraphers, but I just can't get it down. Not once have I beat this guy. Not when I was a kid, not last year, and not after two days of owning my own cart. And I shiver with fear just thinking about the Bruisers.
  4. I'm not a big fan of this song to begin with, as Konami has a poor history of choosing closing credit songs. But this is simply amazing. The work put into this mix is impressive, but even better than the technical accomplishment is the way the song flows completely on its own. This is one of the occasions that a remix truly can exist in the world outside. The lyrics almost take on a different meaning set to this darker, eerie music. The piece builds and builds, becoming more impressive and complex as it progresses. I am now very curious about what BenCousins has to say about this piece. His inspiration and his methods. I would love to hear his take on everything.
  5. I have to say that I enjoy this mix to no end. In the past Crono's mixes have been kind of a guilty pleasure of mine. His style of music is not one of my favorites, in fact, usually I abhor the genre mixing of rap/hiphop/etc that he manages to bring about. I enjoy his mixes, but at the same time I always feel a little... weird listening to them. I'm not really sure why. But back to the review. The thing that I really like about this mix is the "emptiness" that he uses here. The original piece of music is an empty piece as well. Creepy, horrific yet emotionally full, the kind of fullness that helps you to survive the horrors of Transylvania. The solo instruments begin well, capturing that eerie feel of the song, then the unoppressive back beat comes in, adding to the darkness. Then the rapping comes in. Comparing this to his other mixes, it's good to see that Crono can pull out a good combination of sounds and ideas that don't have that sweeping breathlessness of overpowering sound that his other mixes posess, like his Wizard and Warriors mix. In his WW, everything comes in slowly, but they build to a breaking point that always makes me lean back a little, as though I had just been pushed from 0 to 60 in two seconds. But this one progresses slowly and smoothly. It's far more relaxing and mellow, yet still cool enough for me to get into. I hope that all made sense. Crono, can you do better? Probably. But that still doesn't mean that this one is sub par. Far from it. If anything it's proof that you can handle other styles in the same genre. Congratulations on another great mix. I only wish that I had the lyrics...
  6. First Omega Pirate now Meta Ridley? Omega Pirate was kind of hard... but super missles rape the shit out of him as For Meta Ridley.. i had no problem.. then again i also had 1599 health when i fought him.... but still.. i only lost about 200 not even Well, I finally did it. I figured out how far away you have to stand to keep him from charging. Then I took out the Metriod Prime rather quickly... and let's say that the ending was less than stellar. But the game was amazing. Kind of like every other Metroid. As for a hard boss... you're all going to laugh, but Bowser at the end of Mario 3 is the only time a Mario boss has actually given me grief EVERY SINGLE TIME. I always end up beating him, but it takes me quite a few tries.
  7. I'm going through Metriod Prime on Normal. This is my first time through. And the battle with Meta-Ridley is only the second time the camera has completely failed me. Dodging his charges is asinine and tedious. If you don't figure out how to do it, he just compounds charges and wastes you. Not pleased. I finally figured out what to do and when to hit him, and the constant "dash turn lock dash turn lock" made my thumbs hurt. Finally, I lost it and died hardcore. Eventually I'll go back and win. But for now, I'm frustrated. But so far I'm impressed. I'm nearing the conclusion and so far the camera has only let me down twice.
  8. Yeah. I finally did it. But now Meta-Ridley is killing me. Over and over.... I've figured it out, I just have to survive the charges long enough to end him.
  9. Right now, the Omega Pirate from Metroid Prime is the hardest thing I have ever faced. So some of it is the mixture of adrenaline and frustration... but even so. Damn is this guy rough. I've figured out the strategy and I have been able to hurt him. It's that whole "not getting hurt" thing that I'm having trouble with. Jesus. Oh well. Back into the fray.
  10. The 80's Miami Vice/Axel Foley stuff seems to be bothering people. I loved it. While it would work better if it was actually in a game I was playing, I do love the sound of this. I like what you've done, Coop. I'm a fan of the 80's and the soundtracks to 80's cop films, and this brought all of that back.
  11. I think may favorite part of this piece comes in around 2:00 when the Zelda theme comes in. The sections before this point all sounded like a mellow, sorrowful build to this theme. I didn't completely recognize the intro, but then I didn't have to. It was the perfect lead in to the quiet Zelda theme. Wonderful stuff.
  12. THE last boss in Spyro is a cakewalk. You just have to learn to dash the entire thing and find the shortcuts. Then you jump on all THE platforms until you reach him and you win THE game.
  13. Yeah! That game was great, up until the last boss. I shot at him for over an hour, he just changed colors. I never did beat him. I figured that I had played well and that the ending would suck anyhow. So I quit. Yes. I'm a quitter.
  14. There's no such thing as a diffcult FFX boss. It just doesn't happen.
  15. Are you serious? All you have to cast are the mana spells on the sword and heal spells. If you had the time to level up Barrier to level 8 then you are obvously strong enough to survive the little charge attacks. The beast was a cakewalk.
  16. You have to just sit and dodge his dynamite punch for about the first minute of the match. After that he breaks into different things, things that won't put you down with one punch. Then and only then can you get a hit in. If you're lucky. Play well, ready your nerves of steel, take a deep breath and go to it. Just memorize his signs and you shouldn't have a real problem. Best of luck to you.
  17. I think the most amazing thing about this piece is that Malcos and Jivemaster worked together with such physical distance between them and were still able to come up with something this brilliant. Nice work and one of my favorites when I need a pick me up.
  18. How can a mix be too long? Most often my main complaint is that they are too short. If a remixer can hit a tune just right, he could go on forever if he wanted to. Most of the best stuff on here is far too short. I understand that the remixers don't want things to get repetitive, but four minutes seems to be the perfect length for the best stuff. And with this remix, four minutes is almost enough time. Just one man's opinion, however. Wingless, nice work.
  19. I'm just now listening to this for the first time. I'm not quite sure how I missed it. This is pretty great. But the greatest thing about this piece is how mellow it is. All of the music is quiet and smooth while still delivering a bit of the urgency of the original theme. Overall another great piece of work from Disco Dan.
  20. Ah Mr. Big. The perfect Arcade boss. Why? Well the reasons have already been mentioned. He's damn near impossible. He goes through countless phases before he's finally dead. Add that up to an already frustrating (yet highly enjoyable) game and you have money making potential. If you can convince the player that he or she is doing well enough at a certain point in the game then said player will continue to pump quarters in. Especially when one reaches Mr. Big. It's the end, you know it's the end, your not going to give up now. And there's a quarter machine right over there! Victory is in your sights! And the people who created NARC made a mint. The End.
  21. I suppose all of this is all based on who is making me rage right now. And that beastie is the Dark Genie in Dark Cloud. If I ever beat him I'm sure I'll look back and think, aw that weren't so tough. But right now I hate the fucker.
  22. I agree he is a tad difficult. The first time. Then maybe the second time as well. But he has an easily discernable pattern, once that is learned then you have a chance. Just don't get flustered and stay cool. He does one or two moves and they all have huge holes to avoid them. Then he blows up and you save the world.
  23. The hardest boss of all time... The Dark Demon in Dragon's Crest. After you beat the game with all the items you get a password. You put in the password and you become the Ulitmate Gargoyle and go up against this... thing. I still cannot kill it.
  24. The thing is that Chrono Cross cannot be compared to anything else. It's just not fair. Final Fantasy is Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger is Chrono Trigger, and Chrono Cross is Chrono Cross. Each game is unique to itself. In the end, Chrono Cross was nothing more than the answer to the one unanswered question from Chrono Trigger. But CC was an incredibly fun game, with incredible music and beautiful surroundings. It's one that I still have fun playing through, much like Legend of Mana. These two are two of the most beautiful games I've played through. It could also be the fond memories I have of the summer I first played them, but overall I don't think that either of the two games have any major flaws. And the only hard part was lining up the notes fighting Lavos. But I digress. And this is a major digression from the original question. But who's going to stop us?
  25. The last few bosses in Final Fantasy Legend II were damn near impossible. It took me forever to beat Venus, then right after her is Odin with his pets (whom you must beat in eight rounds, if I remember correctly) then Apollo, then a tower climb THEN a crazy gun machine that was damn near impossible. Oh and what about the last three guys in Super Punch Out? The old Chinese man and then the twins? Admittedly I never beat the old Chinese Man, but he had a stick and he's way too fast for his age.
