Madness: Arcade games?!

Now why am i posting this? Simple, it's easier to get yourself killed on a tricycle then finding arcade games in the Netherlands. Besides, who DOESN'T want a Shaq Attaq pinball machine?

That, and Killer Instinct rocks. The person who had that stand challenged me to a few matches, and even when he got the Eyedoll cheat to work, i still kicked his ass.

I bet it will, considering i simply stumbled upon these. I expected certain games, like Time Crisis 2 (one of my all-time favorites), and Street Fighter 2, but they weren't there! Luckily KI and KoF made up for it.

Question: Why do arcades suck so much in the U.S., generally? The only arcade I've ever been to that was at least partially entertaining was a Dave & Buster's in Dallas, which is a good ways away from Auburn, AL.

I'd like to think that if someone actually made the investment to make a good arcade, without all the crap games people don't care about, and with a huge selection of new and classic arcade games, that it could be profitable. But maybe I'm just living in a dream world, here.

Question: Why do arcades suck so much in the U.S., generally? The only arcade I've ever been to that was at least partially entertaining was a Dave & Buster's in Dallas, which is a good ways away from Auburn, AL.
I'd like to think that if someone actually made the investment to make a good arcade, without all the crap games people don't care about, and with a huge selection of new and classic arcade games, that it could be profitable. But maybe I'm just living in a dream world, here.

Arcades used to be able to pull in money from all sorts of people, but now arcades are about small groups, like the hardcore fighter fans, the hardcore old school game fans, the rhythm game kids, all that. Now with online gaming, gaming at home, you just aren't making money having an arcade unless you can pull in one of these crowds constantly

Ergo, less crap, and more cool games. With the right location (big city instead of the middle of nowhere) it might work...
