Jammerlink
Is incorrect. It's pointing to the DKC 3 chiptune. Perhaps there is no DKC 2 chiptune on site?
KyleJCrb
http://www.ocremix.org/songs/original/Donkey%20Kong%20Country%202.rsn The link on the OCR DKC2 page is wrong, but the file is still hosted on the site. Just had to change the filename in the link, and it works. All SNES spcs are also hosted on http://www.snesmusic.org, although that site would appear to be down right now... Tex
Posting here to remind you that there is no such thing as a chiptune for DKC2 OST. Only SPC700.
djpretzel
Is incorrect. It's pointing to the DKC 3 chiptune. Perhaps there is no DKC 2 chiptune on site? Link updated. Finally. Posting here to remind you that there is no such thing as a chiptune for DKC2 OST. Only SPC700. But what would you CALL an SPC? Just an SPC? Technically they ARE tunes, and they did come FROM chips, the core distinction being synthesized vs. sampled. We had this discussion awhile back and concluded that it was easier to just call everything a chiptune, but I'm open to alternative names that make sense: VGM Archive Chiptune/VGM VGM Rip (could be confused w/ CDDA rips...) VGM Sound Data Original VGM I want something that's relatively straightforward and conveys that it's the original soundtrack and that it's NOT an MP3 but rather a chiptune/spc/etc... anosou
I like 'VGM Sound Data' but it might cause discussion since all digital sound is sound data ;P
OceansAndrew
This was decided in Japan like 25 years ago, with "Original Sound Version".
anosou
This was decided in Japan like 25 years ago, with "Original Sound Version". You smell, go home! (i.e. oh right, awesome, but the issue is that they release albums called Original Sound Version just because it's the original tracks)
djpretzel
This was decided in Japan like 25 years ago, with "Original Sound Version". Yeah, that's a term to specifically describe albums, so as to differentiate between OSVs and commercial arranged albums, but that's not as helpful to distinguish between MP3s and chiptune/SPC/mods, and I've never seen it applied as such. It's a *little* Engrish, too, but the main problem is that it doesn't convey what we're talking about... if I saw "OSV" or "Original Sound Version" on OCR as a tab or category, I'd expect MP3s or information about commercial albums, not NSF or SPC files... Dhsu
Oh man, this is takin' me back... I'm satisfied with the chiptune tab clarifying that SPCs are sample-based, and that not all game soundtracks are in a chiptune format (i.e. "chiptune" is not just another word for "soundtrack"). I did notice that the "Other Chiptune Resources" section is blank though. Here's a few sites I recommend: http://snesmusic.org/ (SNES) http://snesmusic.org/hoot/gbs/ (GameBoy) Looks like snesmusic.org is down. :[ http://akumunsf.good-evil.net/dir.php (NES) http://project2612.org/ (Genesis) http://hcs64.com/2sf/ (DS) http://hcs64.com/usf/ (N64) http://gsf.caitsith2.net/ (GBA) http://www.tzone.org/~llin/psf/ (PSX, PS2)
