JohnnyAppleseed Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Does anybody know where I can get a good VST that best re creates the synth sounds from pokemon or sonic the hedgehog? And also sonic and pokemon noises, not just the synths? Anything of this sort? I may not be very good at explaining it, but I think you get what I mean. Quote
Fishy Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 The original pokemon games for gameboy are just the most basic waveforms - any synth should be able to make these very easily. They use only basic square waves, triangle waves and white noise. The sounds of the pokemon are samples; I'm sure there's library of pokemon sounds online somewhere. Google. Sonic (and all genesis) games use FM (frequency modulation) synths which can be a bit intimidating at first. Do you have any FM synths? I've never looked for free ones cause logic came with one, anyone else know the good ones? Quote
LuketheXjesse Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Logic comes with an FM synth? Lucky bastard... Anyway, I guess VOPM and TFM maker are good examples of FM Synthesis. Both are difficult to learn, though. Ask around a bit and maybe someone can teach you. As for "Pokemon sounds" I guess FamiTracker would work well there. Technically FamiTracker is emulating the NES sound chip, but it pretty much sounds the same as the NES outside of the Triangle wave. Quote
Fishy Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Warning: Famitracker is not simple at all. Why would you recommend famitracker when any synth can produce a simple waveform? It's not even vst. Quote
SnappleMan Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Famitracker is very simple to use, and every synth has a slightly different sounding square, triangle and saw wave so the closer you can get, the better. The best way to emulate the pokemon sounds would be to get a gameboy tracker but that's going a bit far just to emulate the sound of one game. Quote

Level 99 Posted April 29, 2010 Posted April 29, 2010 Someone sent me a soundfont that has the instruments from Pokemon D/P...I'll have to look for it and see if I can either locate it online or upload it. Quote
JohnnyAppleseed Posted April 29, 2010 Author Posted April 29, 2010 Alright that would be awesome. Quote

The EFM in Logic Pro isn't that hard to use (at least compared to VOPM screenshots, I haven't tried VOPM myself). Might help in understanding FM synthesis: '>Logic Pro's description of FM Synthesis: The instruction manual for the EFM1 Quote
Level 99 Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Here's the soundfont, I had to upload it. http://www.mediafire.com/?onz5nhemjgf Quote
