SaGa Frontier Solitude Re-Remix

Recommended Posts

I finally decided to give a really old remix another try. I think this was my second of third mix I ever made. Back when I was still learning how to work with FL Studio, I actually thought my mix was good enough to make it past the judges. Boy, was I wrong...

This is a remix of "Alone a.k.a. Bio Lab" theme from the SaGa Frontier soundtrack.

Old Mix (wma format): http://www.mediafire.com/?rnmgmg3jczz

New Mix WIP:http://www.mediafire.com/?2627my7s2sde94f

Please let me know what you think of the new mix. (And don't laugh too hard at the old one)

I've lurked around the site for 10 years or so, just reading and listening, but I had to post something to encourage remixes of SaGa Frontier. That game gets so much (undeserved) hate from Western audiences, leading to the fantastic soundtrack being overlooked for remixing (at least by Westerners). As you can tell by my username, I'm a big fan of the game.

Anyhow, I really don't know much about the mechanics of remixing, so I can't give much advice. The only negative thing that stuck out to me was that the flute (the one that the primary tune is playing) seems to get drowned out at times by the rest of the instruments. Is there is some way to feature it more prominently without beating the listener over the head with it?

The rest of the structure seems pretty solid to me, but I'm a lawyer, not a member of the judges panel. I think if the judges panel were to complain about something on that front, they would think it a bit too repetitive.

Lovin' this. It's a great ambient version of the theme. I personally don't have a problem with the flute, as I think it can be heard pretty prominently throughout. I don't think it's too repetitive. I think you could skip around the song on your media player, and two parts won't sound identical. I think maybe there could be a better ending, and some more melodic development in the last 40 seconds or so, but in any case, I think this is awesome.
