Wacky
So The Girl finds herself relentlessly replaying every single Dragon Age Origin as a variety of people for the following reasons: 1. Roleplaying a Captain Kirkish everything that moves noble rogue who finds Leliana enchanting and shacks up with her Good Friend Al in a marriage of convenience so she can be Queen of Ferelden AND Arl of Amaranthine AND go for the appropriate person depending on what she's feeling like each day to slake her "needs" 2. A female mage who wanted Cullen and Jowan and ended up settling for the King of Ferelden and who insisted that her "Aunt Wynne" look after her and Alistair 3. A variety of Dwarves and Elves who either go for the sickly sweet aforementioned King of Ferelden or Zevran Montoya (Gotta admit he is pretty cool.) She insists all humans are racists in this game and so wouldn't find an elf attractive if they weren't all pretty-boys. (Speak for yourself, dearie. Merrill is the sweetest, cutest thing ever. Come to think of it, why aren't there more hot elf chicks in this game? Oh right. They're slaves.) 4. Not liking Velanna because she was "stealing her Nathaniel." 5. Bemoaning the fact she couldn't set up Wade and Herren's wedding. She even approved/denied the plot twist from Morrigan "depending on what the character would have done." Why do I start with this? Because this *could* be an abstraction into what Bioware does so well- write its characters. I love Bioware for writing good characters- If I mention Minsc, Edwin, Sand, Mordin Solus, Imoen, Conrad Verner, Bastila Shan, HK47... they're irrepressible, and they're actually characters you give a damn about, which is important for an RPG. This, however, is a bit disturbing. You could have quite literally made the entire rest of the game, including the epic plots, a FMV, and a legion of fans would still buy the game just for the romance plots. Not even the banter, which is hilarious, but the mere fact that choosing the right dialogue choices could get a girl in bed with a hot dorky British guy who has every chance of being a King. Come on guys You make fun of men when they play creepy Japanese Dating Sims WITH THE EXACT SAME PROPERTIES Thoughts/Opinions?
Schwaltzvald
You got one side humping their D&D/Sci-fi figures/cards/posters versus those hot-gluing expensive plastic models/full-body pillows/video game images/games involving girls/women between highschool to generally cougar age with the protagonist sometimes close or just at their prospective women's age/shameless porn/gore/snuff/anything you could possibly imagine. Let's not forget cosmic horrors, demonic beings, the supernatural, cyborgs/androids/software-gone-mad/monsters that expand on their original mythos as well as including others throughout humanity's existence... God damn one side is so fucking boring it's making me want to go look for a dating visual novel now... Or a tea party will do... (Note* Don't try to understand what's going on as you'd have to have either at least seen the animated adaptation or played the original PC version from the very beginning. DO watch the video till the end though .)

Schwaltzvald
I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that Dragon Age is essentially Porn for women. So what you're saying is western dating simulators are catered towards women where as eastern, as far as we're addressing for now, generally caters to men..? I'm not entirely surprised and yet some one's bound to argue against it... I'm not easy to please
Wacky
Well, what's the other big game for women in the Western World? The Sims Oh look at that barely thinly disguised The Girl hooking up with that customised hunk guy Not feeling jealousy AT ALL nosirreebob
Schwaltzvald
Would you like some recommendations on some eastern games or you good to go? If your woman's adventurous she may have fun trying them out too~! Bound to be more interesting than the whole high-school jealousy tripe often seen on this side

Wacky
Oh no not at all. I DON'T play creepy dating simulators, and I don't find it somehow different or adorable that women get the "get off scot free for finding pixels sexy" card. Bleck
so how long until someone complains about the gay come-ons in dragon age 2 I love when someone does this because they might as well be saying "I'm so far into the closet that I'm seeing satyr"
Tensei
DA2 had a lot bigger problems than bisexual options for both sexes. Like the fact that it actually started using Japanese Dating Sim Archetypes for it's characters (Merrill). But anyway, given that it's possible to play through either game without unlocking any of the cringeworthy romance scenes whatsoever, it's a bit exaggerated to call them western dating sims. BTW, Baldur's Gate 2 does it's romances way better, and I actually only unlocked one of them in my most recent playthrough, so they're definitely not that prominently present as in DA/ME. Tensei
Honestly, it panders at least as much to men as it does to women. Between the walking pair of boobs that is Isabella and the "Kyaa, Hawke-san, be gentle, it's my first time desu"-archetype Merrill it has near perfect coverage for the entire spectrum of male creeps, as seen on the Bioware forums. And let's not forget that Bioware is also responsible for Tali, whose 'popularity' goes way beyond any male character Bioware has ever put out. lazygecko
Games like Dragon Age, Oblivion, or just RPGs in general tend to be popular with women. The WoW guilds I've been in have also had a pretty even gender ratio. Hell, there's probably more women than men in the #ocrwow channel. south pacific islander
That ratio changes when you get into the Role Playing aspect in fantasy settings.

It's all so people can start shipping their "favourite characters" together and going gaga over them. Seriously. I liked DA:O's version of sexuality. It was a nice mix between ME and DA2. It was sorta close to what real life is like. That is, you might find some gay people, you might find some people who aren't. Some might be bisexual. With some of the romance options in DA2 it's absolutely mind-boggling how they're interested in a Hawke of a certain gender: I can absolutely see Ms Captain Kirk (My nickname for Dread Pirate Isabela) being a total nymphomaniac. I can even see Merrill being her creepy Japanese Dating Sim character (Not that I don't find her adorable beyond all comprehension.) What I can't see is Anders the Awakening Womanizer with a hard on for Velanna and hitting on every single female he sees suddenly becoming rabidly bisexual. It breaks suspension of disbelief. The DA:O ones make sense. Leli and Zevran clearly like their kinks. Alistair and Morrigan are surprisingly vanilla. But that's part of their character, their personality. DA2 characters with the possible exceptions of Varric, Sebastian and Aveline are cookie cutter Insert Perversion Here digital dolls. Edit: I know more girls who play BG2 and DA than guys by about a margin of 1.5:1 and I suspect it may be because they're in it for the stories. Quite a few like Torment as well, and quite a few are rabid Mass Effect fans. Something to do with Garrus and a Female Shepard. Also the amount of frankly creepy attention toward Tali is yet another indicator that Bioware writes DATING SIMS This is worse than when Valve deliberately wrote Alyx to be the Girlfriend Half Life players will never have If you think about it it's really quite creepy. Since when did we move from Minsc and Boo and Guybrush being awesome to people trying to make you fall in love with a fake character? I mean at least I admit my infatuation with Yuna is an abomination and probably wasn't a deliberate attempt by Square to make me wuv her

Also the amount of frankly creepy attention toward Tali is yet another indicator that Bioware writes DATING SIMS Oh please. Tali was getting this long before she became a love interest. Her dialogue in the first game was basically just "Blah blah blah Geth, blah blah blah flotilla, blah blah blah immune system" and people were still clamouring for the option to bone her.
