Sam Ascher-Weiss
http://www.atarihq.com/tsr/nsf/balloon.zip - Track 1 Most of the melodic synth in this piece is but a step above the quality of the NSF. It's obvious that's how you wanted them to sound, though I'm not sure why, however I won't let that largely effect my decision. What will effect my decision is the lack of anything substantial happening here. The swing drums are fun, and the break at 1:23 with the "reversal" effects was mildly entertaining but none of it made up for the mundane nature of the rest of the mix. There was one section I loved. It's the part at 3:15 where the charleston chords come in on a guitar-ish instrument and then the bass starts to add lib and stuff. You kept the original melody but injected the bass line and it sounds excellent. Unfortunately this is too little too late and not nearly enough for me to pass this. Too much emptiness/repitition for such plain sounds accompanied by cutie pie swing drumloops! n0
Liontamer
The source tune is great. Loved it after hearing virt arrange it in "Ska Poppin." I liked this track for the first 1:23, but it felt like it was just going through the motions beyond that. The beats were initially good, but they got plain and vanilla fast. The arrangement was too conservative; mostly altering the rhythms and so forth, but it got overly repetitive. When the key changed at 2:46, I felt it was a terrible choice and the arrangement had been going on cruise control for too long. Then some light electric guitar work came in at 3:16, which was a new idea, but didn't add much to the track either. I've loved Posu's past work, but this doesn't even compare. It just gets lazy and directionless over the course of the 4 1/2 minutes. Sorry bro, you make some great stuff as weed and many others know, but this wasn't it. It could be so much more. I don't really need to tell you how to get passed. NO
danny B
It's hard to judge po!, he's been around far longer than i've even been into making music. But, I have to apply the rubric just like everyone else. As my two preceding votes mention, there's not a whole lot to this track. I agree with Shnabubula's vote completely - read it for my thoughts. It's well-produced, but it's missing a vocal track, or something. It just really doesn't do enough with the original to make it an OC ReMix. Good work though. Sorry po! still luv u. zykO
hahahahahaha god i love you, posu yan. this track is fucking fantastic; ok, i'm admittedly biased. he's only one of my favorite musicians that i've ever met and i'd rap over a beat of his any day of the week. but really, this is quite addictive. this is like a small gel capsule of fun. i feel like i'm dancing around a casino for a music video and i'm doing acid and then i start moving backwards like a jamiroquai video. but really. i'm not sure this passes OCR guidelines; it really does need something else going on with it. man, why do you blow my face off and then make me say no? but i have to because this lacks too much in arrangement and while i love it, my personal bias does not determine my vote. a very painful NO
