timaeus222
How funny, a FF6 remix contest was just over on Feb. 28, and this was one of the available sources. First impressions: Drums - awkward timbre compared to the rest of the instrumentation, especially the snare. The snare seems too acoustic and might be better suited for rock stuff, rather than jazzy stuff. The ambience is very minor on the drums, but it could settle for some subtle drum room reverb. Subtle filters and glitchiness were nice, but rare. Arrangement - Kind of meandering. It's fine as long as there's solid transitions, but there aren't any that jump out at me, so basically I don't hear any. There are some seamless shifts, but they went without transitions. Piano had a good timbre, but seemed random in the way it was played. It sounded improvised to me.
Argle
Are we supposed to adhere to an NDA when we enter contest tracks? Something I've wondered for awhile. Anyway, track seems a bit empty. Not a fan of the drums, they seem too dry and aggressive for the style, I think some brush drums would be more appropriate. Snare in particular sounds like a stock sample from a DAW. DrumJ8
Hey guys thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it much. Heh ya I actually started this with the intention of entering the contest but for various reasons I ended up not participating :/ I'm not sure what the rules were for the recent contest, but for round one, they didn't want wips public until after the results.. Thanks again for the feedback, any and all is welcome, I will do my best. Let me see what I can come back with ..
jnWake
The arrangement is a bit strange. The rhytm played by the drums is kind of different than the rest of the instruments, but in my opinion it sounds cool. The snare is too loud and agressive though. The progressions begining at 1:26 are very cool. Bass and piano are cool in almost all the song, I like how they sound live. The funny thing is that I made a mix quite similar to this one for the competition

I know it needs an intro and better transitions , .. and just a better arrangement in general. To the drawing board I go. Thanks again
Nostalvania
I find the 5/4 part at 1:21 is pretty cool, it just comes too sudden. And the low toms are a bit distracting IMO. I think the part from 1:06 - 1:18 could be longer. I have an idea for the Intro: How about beginning the song with the bass and piano + Hihat from 0:54 - 1:06?
