Ringworm128
I was playing my piano earlier and I noticed that my hands were starting to hurt. Is this normal? Is it because I'm out of practice and it will go away if I keep playing and warming up my fingers or am I doing something wrong?

If your form is good and you're not overworking yourself, you should never feel pain.
jnWake
Watch your hand position! You may get your wrists hurt otherwise, not sure about the fingers. But yeah, it shouldn't hurt...
XPRTNovice
What kind of hurt and where? If it's muscle cramping or just soreness, it could be due to the skill atrophy. But if it's joint pain, STOP.
ectogemia
You're probably out of practice. I know when I haven't played for a while, if I have a long session, my muscles get tired, but yeah, if it feels like a joint or bone pain, that ain't for a lack of practice. SnappleMan
You have to make sure you're using proper technique. Your hands should be shaped almost like claws, so make that shape as comfortably as you can and make sure to never rest your palm on the keybed. Eventually you'll get tired but there should be no real pain when playing the piano. If you're running drills for scales or finger separation then you'll get sore, but again no pain. timaeus222
Have someone massage your hands if they start to hurt. Could be carpal tunnel. Hope not.
