The People's Remix Competition 295
PRCv12-09

Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition!

Last round three songs got submitted before the first deadline. Supercoolmike was unstoppable, he got a first place vote by everyone. Mark Sparling claimed second place, Gercr got a third place.

Esperado has send a source as well (as winner of PRC293) so this round has two sources.

 

 


Sorry for the terribly late pick. Im going to compile a list or sources for the future so that I do not need to take so much time deciding. Anyways my source pick is Snowdrift Cave from Legend of Legaia. I dont believe that game has had any posted ReMixes so lets get cracking on that!

decided to pick a town-ish theme from mario and luigi superstar saga called TeeHee Valley. it has a cowboy kind of style of music that I think is rarely used anymore.

To submit a song at the compo page a ThaSauce account is required.

If anyone has problems with registering or uploading the song to ThaSauce, please upload the song somewhere else and post a download link in the thread. I recommend Soundcloud, don't forget to allow downloads to enable me to upload the song at ThaSauce.

To register and submit, do the following.
  • Click the ThaSauce link.
  • Click the 'You are not logged in' button in the upper right.
  • Click on 'register' (at the bottom).
  • Read the terms and click 'I agree to these terms'. If you don't agree with them, upload the song somewhere else and post a download link as mentioned above (by doing that, you allow me to upload the song at ThaSauce.
  • Continue the process by filling in your information.
  • A confirmation mail will be send. There might be some issues with it (meaning that you don't get it), if that is the case, upload the song somewhere else as described above.
  • Once registered, login with your username and password, go to the mentioned page and submit the song. If you want submit two or more songs you can create multiple ThaSauce accounts or upload the song somewhere else and post the download link.


PRC instructions

  • Limitations at ThaSauce require your entry to be 20 MB or less in size. Length for length's sake and MIDI rips are not allowed (only as Bonus Mixes).
  • Entries must be posted in the ThaSauce link by Friday May 1st 2015 at 10:59 am ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT, again two days extension), check the ThaSauce page for the exact time left.
  • You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. You are free to create a second ThaSauce account for that, it's needed to be able to upload a second remix. You can also upload it somewhere else and put a download link in this thread
  • Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted in this thread.
  • Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they recieve a free first place vote added onto their score.
  • The winner of this round may select the source for PRC296.
  • To participate, only one of the sources has to be remixed but it is encouraged to remix both sources in one mix. The winner of last round, Supercoolmike, and the winner of PRC293, Esperado, can take part in this round by remixing the source selected by the other (or mix both sources in one song). So Esperado can remix the Mario and Luigi Superstar source and Supercoolmike can take part by remixing the Legend of Legaia source. They can also remix their own source as a bonus track (or do both:lol:)

I don't think Bundeslang gets enough recognition for the work he does for PRC. And I don't mean the actual organizing of the competition; I mean that he has to think up a humorous title from the source(s) every single time! Well done that man!

Rexy often used 'It's A Me' when the source was Mario related, I decided to continue with that. Mostly my creativity depends on how well I know the source or the game. If I don't know them I'll use a combination of the source name and game name. Sometimes I use Wikipedia to use some details from the game if I really don't know an acceptable title. When there are two sources, it's easier.

I changed it a bit, in the past it was necessary to remix the source selected by 'the other winner' but now I allow to do a VS mix as well, as long as the source selected by the other is recognizable and used as 'primary source'.

For the other participants (who didn't select a source): only one of the sources has to be remixed but it is encouraged to remix both sources in one mix. I added this in the description.

is it just me or is the Thasauce web trippin balls? when trying to go to the main page, i see this

But when going anywhere else in web with extensions (like the link in the first post) its perfectly fine.

thasauce.net and compo.thasauce.net run off different services. The compo site seems fine. Someone definitely broke the main site, though.

On a side note, Bundeslang how long has it been since you've used your countdown sig for PRC rounds?

 

The link was added in the thread for the last time at PRC271, since it was broken. The link was:

Changing it to

If you'd like a sig like the one I have, I'd be happy to help. I can make a modified version of mine and host it myself, or I can send you a template of my code for you to host. It's PHP plus a cron to scrape the ThaSauce page for deadlines.

 

That sig is very nice. As Anorax said, I used the ThaSauce signatures before, but these are broken. I would like to have a new one.

As promised, my remix is up. Super rough with only four hours of work, but it's something.

 

It might be enough for the win.

Which account did you use in the past?

 

The voting stage of this round will probably be a bit shorter as usual, if there is a voting stage.

Welcome to the voting stage 
The mixing stage is over. This round has 2 songs. To vote, do the following:

  • Visit the stated ThaSauce Page and listen to all the entries.
  • Scroll to the form at the bottom of the screen.
  • Fill in the entries from first to second. Leave the third box empty.
  • State a reasoning for it.
  • Participants are encouraged to vote and leave feedback. However, they may not vote for themselve, they should only fill in the first place. They get a free first place if they vote, so it doesn't matter for the results. Non participants are encouraged to vote to decide the winner and leave comments as well.
  • Always look in this thread to find out who's the winner of the round after the voting stage instead of only looking at ThaSauce for the results.
