akalink
Hi first time poster here. I was hoping to get some critique on this Medley I made. I have a background with orchestration, but arrangement has aways been a thorn in my side and I like to remedy that. I made this remix to practice using compressors, but I decided to finish it. Thanks! *edit if that link doesn't work try *edited so that everything should work now*
Gario
Well hello there! Nice to see you postin' your stuff here. Welcome to the OCR WIP board. Doesn't look like you got too many comments on this one, though. It probably had to do with the Tindeck link (as well as the fact that it's a 60MB download) - too many advertisements, and too large of a file. Personally I use box.net (Free!), but a lot of other people use different sites to achieve the same thing (also free, in general). Also, I'm not sure if FL has an mp3 conversion method on its own, but I know a lot of people use Audacity (freeware) with the "lame" plugin in order to convert WAV files.Anyway, this is pretty cool, for what it is. Pretty straight, and pretty well covered. I like a lot of the electronic effects that were used throughout. The orchestra often sounds pretty mechanical, but learning how to make it sound real is something that comes with practice.Cool song, though! I hope you get more attention on the next song you post, and I hope some of my advice on posting a link helps you out.
timaeus222
FL doesn't have an MP3 encoder built in, but you can still use WinLAME to accomplish that. And cool, I didn't realize Box.com had a .net URL too.
akalink
Thanks for the advice guys. It has been years since I last used tindeck so I totally forgot it doesn't like .wav files. Fixing it all now.
Slimy
I really like the style you went for overall. The orchestra doesn't sound real at all, but it kinda works, except at 1:49 and 3:46, when the orchestra is put to the forefront. Although I think the arrangement is otherwise good. I think the bass instruments at 0:40 get a bit muddy, and you should try to make it clearer. I like the instrument you're using for the melody at 1:00, and I think you should bring it out a bit more. The percussion here sticks out too much just slightly. Despite saying I liked the style, the escape theme is an exception - to me it feels like a midi with some instruments thrown over it, without much of a style. I think you should try doing something more original with it. Maybe beefing it up since it's an escape theme. I liked the bit at 3:20 though.
