The Jedi Steps - John Williams Mockup

Recommended Posts

Really nice. I don't think I would have noticed the difference if this was in the film instead. May I ask what software you're using for the orchestra?

Thanks MES. I used Cubase and the following libraries:

Woodwinds: Spitfire BML and CineWinds, Berlin Woodwinds for some of the trills and runs
Brass: CineBrass
Percussion: Spitfire Percussion
Harp: Spitfire Skaila Kanga
Piano: Hans Zimmer Piano
Strings: Soaring Strings, Sable, Mural, Spitfire Solo Strings

Could've sworn the strings were from VSL. Thank you for the answer. You seem to like Spitfire a lot though, so I'm surprised the brass is from something else.

CineBrass is second-to-none, especially the dynamics and legato. Spitfire Brass is beautiful but the horns legato is wonky and the sound isn't as crisp; a bit muddy to my ears.

Wow, so glad to see someone else loves The Jedi Steps! The mystery, the swelling emotion, the sense of conclusion - too good. Nice work recreating it!

Thank you! It is a great cue, and I learned a lot from mocking it up.

Great work! I thought the lead strings attack was a tad weird when they were more exposed (0:22, for instance, though elsewhere they sounded clean), but I found the brass to be particularly excellent. :)

John? John Williams? Is that you?

Only criticism is that is sounds a tiny bit too quantized and midi-ish.

Other than that it's perfect!
