MindWanderer
Pretty straightforward reinstrumentation. Structurally, there's some extra breakdowns, and some sections are extended. Of course, lots of sweeps, wubs, and other textures were added, in addition to the percussion — the original track only has 2 channels. Production is generally pretty good. Everything sounds crisp and clear. Soundscape is lacking in highs, and could definitely use some presence there, if only some EQ changes on the hats and snares. The arrangement as a whole is underwhelming, though. It's pretty static: the percussion is almost unchanged throughout, and there's only one main lead. More importantly, the arrangement is really only 1:31 long; at 1:32 it loops back to the beginning. At 2:32 there's a few changes from the first loop of this section, but it's still clearly still part of the loop. I'm afraid that we need more interpretation that what we have here, and especially we need a more dynamic arrangement that doesn't rely so heavily on copy-pasta. The first half is a pretty good starting point; if the second half were more creative and transformative, this would be in a good place. prophetik music
initial intro sounds nice. there's some fun bassy buzzes, the percussion initially sound fine, the synths are fine for what they're doing. i agree there's little arrangement going on, and that the mastering has that low-focused sound lacking highs that i associate with early 00s electronica. there's some new content in the last 15 seconds, but that's about it. the ending is pretty basic and sudden. the copypasta kills this one. there needs to be more arrangement here - the straight loop of the first minute or so doesn't cut it. play with the chords, add a breakdown without percussion, do some new synth work or add countermelodies...there's lots of options. right now this is too lacking in arrangement to meet the posting standards. DarkSim
Really solid start, and a great upgrade of the source tune, but for a short track there's too much repetition here. I can almost see the project file in my mind! Drum loop sounds good, but it's effectively unchanged throughout the whole piece, just a dropout here and there. Bass effects are nice, but overused and in the same pattern making the repetition too obvious. Mixing is pretty tight, and the instrumentation works, the whole thing just needs a more interpretive and engaging arrangement. Would love some more personal and varied percussion as well. Dynamically it's at a very similar level throughout. At the very least there ought to be a break section, and the choruses should feel like a real climax to the song. The repetition is killing the sense of progression through the track, so the listener lacks clues as to which section is coming next. Building excitement and anticipation is one of the challenges when creating a great arrangement. Try and think about these things if and when you decide to revisit this one.
