Liontamer
From Cyril the Wolf For the Impact of Iwata album. When the album opportunity was first posted, after reading the briefs on the track selection I immediately knew that I wanted to do something from Kirby's Dream Course. Until the post I had no idea Iwata contributed to Golf - though I knew he was a large part of some of the Kirby Franchise. Since Golf lacked a soundtrack I wanted to do something from one of my all time SNES games. I had some help - as while I take great pride in my ability to slap the bass my guitar work does not always keep pace. Zack Parrish helped with some clean funky guitar rhythm in the first part and a fantastic fusion-influenced guitar solo at the end. There's a lot of different sounds happening with this song in the original and I definitely wanted to keep that spirit - but one thing that I felt had to stay was the TRUMPET - so in the spirit of Mambo No. 5 I had TSori (also Project Director) contribute some live trumpet parts to really tie this all together. The entire form of this song was a result of me grooving to a metronome - none of the bass parts changed from the initial arrangement though I did several takes to make sure the groove was as slick as possible. So happy to contribute to this project. Games & Sources Funky track that plays at the end of every course. prophetik music
fun idea for a track! there's a ton of goofy synth work right off the bat that is so fitting for this original. i'll note that the quant of some of the synths don't quite fit into the bass's swing - the swirly synths and subsequent tones at 0:56 are an example, and the big drum beat that comes in right after that also seems to be not quite on the same swing (there's a kick mid-measure every measure that i can't wrap my brain around). guitar work is fun, especially the stuff around 1:20. synth work at 1:41 sounds a lot like the beginning with a new groove under it. similarly, 2:17 again sounds very similar to 1:03. there's a big build through 2:33 for a big solo. the swing is dropped here and it's more straight throughout the band. there's a little bit of groove after the solo and it's done. this has some really fun design work in it. obviously the bass performance is skillful, although like i mention the swing changes occasionally and it's not clear if that's intentional. the synth work is appropriately goofy and has a lot of design time spent on it clearly. i found the repetition to be noticeable. the guitar and trumpet were great adds. i think this is closer than i expected. for a track that is predicated on groove, the track noticeably doesn't always settle into one. however it's mastered well, overall performed well, and it's a fine adaptation of the original. i don't want perfect to be the enemy of good, so for me that's a pass. Emunator
That intro groove is ridiculous. It's clear that you embraced the silliness of the original source, but gave it a bit of a stumbling cadence that accentuates that energy even further and lets it become fully unhinged. The original source feels like a casual, confident stroll along the first hole fairway, whereas your arrangement strikes me as more of a tipsy stumble over the 17th green after you've spent a day pounding beers on the course. Still just as fun, but definitely a different kind of golf ;) This format gives you a chance to really showcase your musical talents without restraint, and I love it. TSori and Zack both bring the heat, but that's, err, par for the course. The loose swing rhythms that prophetik called out on some of the sections feels in-step with the overall vibe of the track, and scans as a feature, not a defect. Listener mileage may vary, but I'm all on board with this! YES
Chimpazilla
The performances feel loose, aaaaalmost too much so, but it's so funky and matches the silly vibe of the source tune. Haha I LOVE Emu's description, a tipsy stumble over the 17th green after pounding beers all day! Nailed it, Wes! I wish the bass had some more oomph to it, I feel like the low end is missing some beef other than the heavy kick. The overall mix is just a bit on the flat side, but generally things are balanced and mixed well enough. What a cute, funky, and well crafted and performed arrangement, let's go. I feel my spirits lifted after hearing this a couple of times! YES
