Liontamer
Full Credits Ridley Snipes - arranger, producer, guitar, engineer The Vodoú Queen - voiceover monologue Notes This track was made for the Pixel Mixers Silent Hill album, which is currently in the mastering process for distribution - this recording is my own master for individual/OCR release. I've been trying lots of new genres lately, and this is my attempt at wave. You might get a different description depending on who you ask, but "wave" to me can mostly be described as spinoffs of other genres (e.g. Hardwave, Wave Trap, Wave Phonk) - the main pillars being heavy usage of washy supersaws, wide distorted reese basses, spacious atmosphere, and usually a slower tempo than whatever it's pulling from. Skeler and LXST CXNTURY are my two favorite artists in this realm. The source tune is very simple and very Silent Hill - a linear piano melody bedded onto a droning triphop beat, sprinkled with reverse vocal slices and other unintelligible ear candy throughout. I think I ended up skirting pretty close to the 50/50 line on usage, so here's the breakdown: Intro 0:00 - 0:22 original melody loop, chords borrowed from source, original bassline to complement the source chords Hook 0:23 - 0:52 guitar plays climax of the source melody, chords and loop continue Verse 0:53 - 1:23 piano begins the actual A melody from source, synths continue the clean guitar melody Break 1:24 - 1:53 piano continues with melody B, VQ reads the monologue from the end of source track (after the song is over). There's more ambiguous source here but it is very layered deep in the background Hook 1:54 - 2:24 full blast of the original loop Verse/Outro 2:25 - end piano picks back up at the climax Had lots of fun with this one - hope yall enjoy it too. prophetik music
opening is very Halloween. there's some chillstep-adjacent crunchy percussive elements in there initially. we get a big hit at 0:23 with some heavily panned elements and what feels like triphop percussion. i really like the washes of sound used through here. i think the percs are a bit too in the fore compared to some of the other elements and so sound a bit out of place, but i like what they're saying. piano comes in at 0:54 and there's some really cool delayed guitar work in the background here. break at 1:24 with some voiceover work. the backing pad in this section is superb - there's so much movement and body to it. big build into 1:54's synth-led section. this is much more aggressive and i like the sound a lot. the lead synth may be a touch loud here. there's a recap of the b theme melodically here with the repeated notes in the keys. the window dressing around this section is again really solid. the track then kinda stops - there's no real ending, it just falls off after the last chord and is done. i think the lack of ending was a letdown, but overall this features some super dope atmospheric work. i think the voiceover is handled really well and that the overall shape of the work is great. nice work. Emunator
This is a stupid easy vote - the production is absolutely incredible here. I don't know what "wave" is (and I'm at least 40% sure you're making it up) but I like it a lot. This reminds me of a mix of Clams Casino, Lorn, and a bit of Burial but with some ultra-modern, sleek production. 1:54 knocked me out of my seat when the supersaws dropped in. Queen's voiceovers fit in perfectly, what a great additional element to add some interest during the breakdown. Ending is not blowing me away but I think sometimes we overstress the importance of a really complex, involved ending - it fades out cleanly and by that point, the track has done everything it needs to do. EZ-PZ. YES
Chimpazilla
Oh yeah, this packs a punch, and is also dreamy. The drop hits with a wallop. Wonderful atmospheric work, along with a very groovy drum beat. The bass and synths are totally badass. Voiceover work is appropriate. Excellent soundscape, great production, flowy arrangement. The ending is way too abrupt, as the guys also said, but not enough to dealbreak. Let's go. YES
Hemophiliac
I don't care what Wave you call this, it's still a great-tsunami of awesome. The bass is thick and rich, and the portamento on it gives it so much finesse...like the ever present fog in all of Silent Hill. The effected foley/percussion in the intro gives it a creepy-yet-ethereal vibe that is just excellent. Very nice choice to bring in VQ for some brief voice-over. She fit in perfectly. As always, the production is spotless, crystal clear. Slightly disappointed by the ending, but not everything needs to be wrapped up perfectly every time. I really like how you handled the melody, you presented it in a way that I found more interesting and appealing than the original. I always consider that a major win. To develop and improve upon something existing, letting us know what it that source is, and making it your own. It's like the exact definition of what makes a ReMix on OCR.
