prophetik music ⚖️ Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 this got rejected due to feeling incomplete and needing some glam. i went through and added the following. transitional elements in several locations more percs in the opening section extra drum elements to when the beat comes in after the first minute extra atmosphere in most of the second half lots more reverb more kick throughout changed the arrangement to alter a lot of the melodic and harmonic/chord structure for the second half added some changes to the first part as well (note that this no longer features a natural minor v as i described in my initial post) i ran this by kris for a second set of ears and she felt that the changes were significant, so here's hoping this has a better shot =) Games & Sources Prologue theme from Final Fantasy Legend for the Game Boy.
Liontamer ⚖️ Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 (edited) The little accenting sounds brought in at :13 are too piercing, IMO. Actually, the sweep from :53-:58 was grating too. It's not pleasant on headphones; the highs should be cut. More of the same issue from 1:17-1:38. Love the brief dropoff at 1:38, then some beats return at 1:49 to give it more direction & drive. At 2:10, the change in the melody was briefly meandering, but no big deal. Nice lil' transition sound at 2:20 to the sustained synth line; love the subtle dynamic here. The highs should really be pulled back so this doesn't sound so piercing on headphones, but that's no reason to hold it back as is. The adjustments have made this sound much more cohesive; I didn't have any reservations of this sounding like a WIP this go-around, and the subtle dynamic curve works very well here now. Nice work channelling a mysterious and delicate approach to the source, Brad! :-) YES Edit (3/26/25): From 1:07, the accenting sounds are still piercing, moreso from 1:17-1:38 when the pattern's more active, but less so than before. :-) It's slightly less of an issue from 1:49-2:20, but still going on there as well. I'm still at a point where, ideally, they'd still be adjusted, but still not at a point where my vote's conditional. Edited March 26 by Liontamer added updated comments
Emunator ⚖️ Posted March 26 Posted March 26 This one starts off with some classic Omnisphere bells and synths that gel together flawlessly. Everything is buttery smooth about the pads, bass, and melodic elements. I can see how each of the decisions you made in the reworking process contribute to this feeling. Then, around the 1 minute mark, you slide in some incredibly fun shuffle rhythms that feels completely different from the intro, but goes down smooth all the same. No chaser needed :) The only beef I have here is the piercing high-end percussion lines, I'd love to hear that (or, not hear that?) tamped down with some high-shelf action. I also would have liked to hear a little more sound design/effects to lead into the final resolution at the end of the song, but it already works well enough as-is, so that's more of a "I would have done this differently" approach. Nice work! YES
prophetik music ⚖️ Posted March 26 Author Posted March 26 @Liontamer @Emunator updated version in first post with slightly reduced high freqs on shaker. enough?
Gario ⚖️ Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Well, isn't this an interesting twist to the theme - what an effect switching from major to minor can bring. It's not a difficult change to make, but I don't see people making the switch and really capitalizing on it very often, so nice work taking this idea as far as it can go. The swing beat in the middle is a very nice way to spice it up, too - could've used more of that in the song, in fact, as it's all over as soon as it begins, it seems. This is a short and sweet judgment, itself, but if my biggest complaint is that I could've listened to this longer on a three minute arrangement that's not at all a bad thing. Send it up! YES
