prophetik music ⚖️ Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 (edited) i think the source counts, but we may have to adjust the game that it's associated with based on the info included by emu -proph Credits: Emunator: Arrangement, Piano, Programmed Instruments, Sound Design, Mixing maclaine: Vocals (lead, harmony) Zack Parrish: Acoustic Guitar (6 string), Electric Guitar (lead), Electric Bass, Mastering Pixels & Paradiddles: Acoustic Guitar (12 string), Drums (kit), Percussion Shea's Violin: Violin, Viola, Mandolin Gamer of the Winds: Alto Flute Chromatic Apparatus: Cello Theophany: Backing Vocals Artist Comments: This was made for Dwelling of Duels October 2024 Aliens Month. I'm not sure if this source is going to be kosher with OCR standards since it was created for specifically for a Pikmin commercial and was only included as a cameo in Pikmin 2 and later featured as a song representing the Pikmin franchise in the Super Smash Bros series, so feel free to take it or leave it. prophetik music ⚖️ Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 i don't figure out eligibility, i just do music stuff, so i'll let someone else handle if this counts. at least the video is cute. opens with a very Outer Wilds-esque guitar arpeggio and some beautiful live instrumentation alongside sfx. maclaine's voice is superb for this, the tone is just perfect. if anything i think there's too much going on behind her voice - i don't want to listen to the (admittedly awesome) other stuff, her voice is too good. i can't speak to the pronunciation (no pun intended) but the text sounds like it's very comfortable and the language doesn't get in the way of anything. we get some percs at 0:57, and the backing elements continue to be excellent. there's a break at 1:20. the vin right away there is a touch out of tune but fixes it quickly afterwards as part of that lovely rising line. 1:48 starts the second verse, and we get back into a more simple rhythmic backing part. some drums at 2:13 kick the second chorus, suitably understated while still playing something worth listening to. another break at 2:42 for the start of the bridge section. i appreciate the space added to this section, it really adds some contrast to the very busy verses. i also appreciate that there's a lot of time given throughout, it feels like you're adding some bars in different places with how patient it is, and i like that. vocal riff at 3:29 is great. 3:40 starts some more distinct solo sections - lead guitar tone is perfect, sounds great. 4:20 is the recap of the chorus - if anything i wish that maclaine's voice is a touch more focused and intense here to fit the backing elements, but it still sounds great. there's a ton of falling action after this chorus. this was a good opportunity to mix up the chords under the vocal line imo, but what's here is fine. 5:13's got some really subtle piano lines. i actually didn't care much at all for the descending chromatic line in the plectral instrument there (pretty sure it's guitar), but it settled down nicely so that's great. this is outrageous and i can't believe it's going to be available for free. the care throughout the arrangement to constantly identify individual little bits to highlight at every second is just astounding. the performances are excellent and the vision is grand and inviting. excellent work. DarkeSword 🎮 Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I'm just gonna say that the source is valid. It was written specifically for the series. It made its way into Pikmin 2. It represents Pikmin in Smash. We can call this a Pikmin 2 remix. paradiddlesjosh, Emunator and pixelseph 3
Liontamer ⚖️ Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Thanks for DarkeSword for clarifying the source eligibility and widening the lane for it. We can indeed roll with this as Pikmin 2 since it was used there. The music was 5:39-long, so I needed to hear the source tune used for at least 169.5 seconds to consider the source material dominant. :29.5-1:22, 1:48.5-2:40.5, 3:00.25-3:03.5, 3:05.25-3:07.75, 3:10.25-3:15, 3:39.75-3:41.5, 3:43.75-3:46.5, 3:49.25-3:53.75, 4:20.5-4:57.75, 4:59.25-5:11.25, 5:13.75-5:28.5 = 188 seconds or 55.45% overt source usage There was connective tissue I'm likely overlooking with my timestamps, but I was just making sure the vocals weren't the sole connection to the source or that I was being bowled over by the musicianship. maclaine's vocals sound absolutely lovely, charming, and captivating. I'd argue the instrumentation was too loud relative to the vocals (e.g. 1:35), but it's potentially done in the effort to have them swim in the music. Loads of synergy with the instrumentation side of this anyway, and it's rewarding to try to isolate different parts and hone in on their individual contributions. Awesome presentation, folks! YES
Hemophiliac ⚖️ Posted March 26 Posted March 26 I can understand the argument regarding the source usage, but I'm glad Darkesword put that to rest. This is the cleanest pieces I've heard by Emunator. Going light with bass being portrayed by cello was an excellent call, until later in the track. It really let the track evolve and grow throughout. All of the performances are super clean, and were mixed in very well. If I had to nitpick, the drums and bass could have come up in volume. Tough balancing act because too much would waylay the light airy feeling the track has. Maclaine sounds stellar and stylistically fits this perfectly. This is all absolutely gorgeous. YES

Just following up on this, the song was only referenced for 2 bars sung by the Pikmin in Pikmin 2 as an Easter egg, but the full song was used verbatim as a stage theme for SSBB, so we'll actually associate this with Brawl. :-)
