New Steam Megaman trailer uses OCR music

Capcom doesn't really need permission to use music that they have the rights to. xP

Trailers generally don't ever credit the composers, so it would be odd if they did.

Technically they don't have the rights to it as they didn't create that piece so they don't own it. They could say that the creator did not have rights to make that derivative but once it's done I'm fairly certain they can't just say its ours. Plus it could easily fall under fair use as this piece was inspired by mega man but none of it was actually from megaman.

The track used is "Searing Scissors", from For Everlasting Peace. Unless I'm mistaken, that was both a commercial album and collaboration with Capcom. They likely have the right to use any song from that album as they see fit. Don't quote me on that, though.

Check it out:

Was surprised, wonder if they needed to get your permission or if they did indeed get it...eitherway, kinda wish they put in ocr at least for some recognition!

They don't need our permission. They commissioned us for For Everlasting Peace and hold the copyright to that album.

This has already been answered, but yeah, it's their album, and they do own it. I'm a remixer on the album and I had to sign a form about it. Basically, without all the legal speak, I signed away my derivative work rights to OCR.

I assume then OCR, with all the derivative work rights to every track, signed them away to Capcom. Capcom now had all rights to the music. Then, Capcom (generously) gave licensing rights to OCR, and then the album was sold on iTunes and such.

It's now their music, and they own it about as much as they own any other Mega Man arranged sound track album.
