  1. awesome take on Rena, love the B section. drums are sweet. Keychange is sexy. EgM's on a roll IMO
  2. ARRGGHHH! I'm arranging this exact song right now. Its cool though, your's is much better. This is very nice. Very crafty and smooth. Nice 'woodwork' as I like to call it. More like this plz dale
  3. SWEET! The sliding doors open and I grab a cart. 0:11 I look around.... 0:20 Straighten my hat... 0:23 I'm off! I'm running thru the supermarket, hair blowing back- powersliding with my cart around the aisle corners. 0: 37 I wink at cute girls as I pass by, I throw a box of pop tarts in my cart. 1:02 bobbin my head while browsing cereal. Cocoa krispies! 1:28 breezing thru deli, still bobbin my head. 1:37 I see people clapping on the soup isle 1:51 even the stockboys are dancing while stocking milk 2:03 I check my grocery list and catch my breath (lol, listen it fits!) 2:10 check out, first in line 2:31 swipe my atm card, tip my hat, and I'm off.... 2:40 I smile while I walk out the door, as I stole a pack of bubblelicious. (watermellon) No really, what a great remix. Its fun, lively, and well thought out. The transitions are great, hell all of it was. I'd dare say that Mexieus knows his stuff. To date, my favorite Chocobo mix. Dale
  4. NICE! Some very spiffy playing. A slight upgrade in the mixing, and this would be album material. And what I like most about this is that it sounds like it was Fun to make.
  5. Agreeage. Calm, and whatnot. Mysterious and whatnot. Wonderful and whatnot. Nicely blended all the way around. Perfect dynamics. I think thats what makes it so immersive: The fact that its so well done. I find no fault whatsoever. The mp3 encoder gets pissed off from the soaring strings, but thats not Russell's fault. Otherwise, Bravo. -Dale North
  6. I agree with Kaijin. Desipte what you'd call nitpicks, its a solid (and very pretty piece). I like that the drums were kept simple, perfect for the arrangement. This is one of the best arrangements I've heard on OC in awhile- Eric set his mind to a goal and achieved it very nicely. My only issues were with: Very grainy software sounding reverb. Very rough and somewhat distracting. Its okay to be 'reverb heavy' if you're using quality processing, but it kinda hurts a piece if you're not. Excess high frequency information. Probably a creative choice in EQing the guitar, so its understandable- but the mp3 encoder apparently had a difficult time with that one- crunchy artifacts everywhere. Fade out The first two have nothing to do with arranging, but are more technical 'nitpicks'. I say bravo, and I hope to hear more guitar from Eric. Dale North dale@oneupstudios.com
  7. Nice. And much props for Saga Frontier useage. Oh, and I liked the pause
  8. Ah! Didn't catch that at first. But your musical style has a lot of similar elements to Yuki's- I can see it now that I listen again. Good to hear you're into WHR as its one of the best things I've seen in awhile- Art, music, story. As for .hack, while i've been into the music- I find myself waiting for March '03 for the DVD release. I HAVE to have the dvds for something this big/great. 2 things: 1. get my mix? 2. seen ep21 of whr? dale
  9. I have never reviewed anything EVER before. But this was so great I had to. Certainly lots of stuff going on. And its all good stuff. Busy but a great kind of busy. I picture DJP spinning around in his chair- knobs and hands flying everywhere. I felt like claping when it was over. Like it was a performance. Now correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not BTW)- but being a SUPER MEGA HARDCORE ANIME MUSIC FAN (pry bigger than game music now) I'd have to point out and applaud your inspiration: Taku Iwasaki's Witch Hunter Robin. My favorite anime composer and one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. Mucho bravo on how tekken's music was blended with Iwasaki's style from WHR. Even the instrumentation was very similar. Impressive! (altough Iwasaki-san is ALL UP IN THEM KORGS ) I was hoping it would end with a cello solo, but thats probably just me. I use cellos too much anyway. Great stuff. 10. Thanks for the compliments guys. Glad you liked. But, there have been more technical comments on this mix than any other I've ever done! Now for the 'reverb' bit. There's not much reverb at all- in fact its a pretty dry song effect wise. If you even put headphones on and listen to the vocals, they're pretty dry. Clean even. I think you're mistaking it for... ...the Panning Tremolo. Where the Electric Piano moves back and forth between the speakers. And I could see where that would annoy. Sorry 'bout that. Distortion? No. Glad to hear it was your MP3 player. My studio monitors didn't reveal any distortion, so I knew something was up. Voice 'sample'? No. Thats me on cheezy 3 part harmony. Ginnsu. That note you were talking about is a 'pickup' note. The one inbetween chord movements. If you're not used to the style, it dosen't sound natural. But you're right, the note is off - but its intentional. Thanks for your kind words - glad you enjoyed.
  11. what an incredible remix. http://www.vgmix.com/panelreview.php?songid=1829
  12. Scott still holds true to his title: One of the top 5 remixers hands down. Bastard keeps moving up too. And this song says nothing different: His ideas are great, his creative and technical skills even better, and his style is awesome. Knowing this, any song he picks up is gonna rock Doom fits perfectly in my Scott collection of songs. 3:31 has so much 'hell yeah' power. I would've screamed in delight if the orchestral layer had more focus on woodwinds and less on strings. The break at 1:50 or so is so scott, and lets you know that the song will be finished out right. awesome
  13. The Fat Man? Who? Is he some newbie or something? Dumb n00bs. JUSTKIDDING Not my style of music at all, but the coolness factor of George Sanger submitting a mix is thru the roof. Not a fan of your music so much- but I greatly appreciate everything you do to raise awareness for game music. Dale North dale@oneupstudios.com
  14. HA! Wow and damn guys. Thanks so much. Hey, is it taboo to respond to praise/reviews/critism? Watch me not care. Anyway, thanks for the kind words peeps. Russell. Simple layers? Cute All my work is simple. There's no complexity to what I do as I very much dislike unnecessary complexity in music. That, and the fact that I suck. I'll leave that complex nonsense to the composers you've named here. LOL- I love the one and two word responses/reviews. I eat them up. There's no double guessing about them as I know exactly what they are. And also, I write bad stuff on a daily basis. Heart attack time! You know I'm picking on you, right? Thats also why I love Sakuraba's work. Simple and hella effective. A role model even. peace
