Chronopolis: Music Inspired by Chrono Cross - History
Pavos replied to prophetik music's topic in Projects
If my health permits me, I'll start working on something for Garden of God -
Oh a new thread! I've got a slightly strange request: I've long wanted to do a main theme/good egg/gusty garden, but good egg galaxy is obviously done already would it be ok if I did such a combination for this project or should I just act normal already and just do a gusty garden mix? (assuming it's up for grabs again)

Awesome guys, it sounds like we have a team then! I'll send you a PM
-
Does that mean you won't be able to do your collab? And I've put you down for A Curious Happening Jorito! Also: Hylian Lemon posted a WIP on the forums, so check it out! I'll give feedback next week
-
Well don't let me hold you back, the project can always use more good mixes
-
Great, thanks Alex! In some less optimistic news, it seems that my current medical situation (migraine/epilepsy-related stuff) will most likely not allow me to commit the time to this project I require as a project director. I understand this is quite annoying since I've just taken the lead on this thing - and believe me, I'm bummed out as least as much as you guys. I can of course still bug people about deadlines, but that's not nearly enough to manage such a big project. So, we really need a replacement if we want to manage this succesffully tl;dr: medical stuff, new management needed
-
Ah right, thanks for the reminder On another note (I already PM'ed this to the artists), but we're looking for an assistant director to aid in harassing the artists by PM and help give feedback on the tracks
-
Alright guys, I made a new project thread, since I can't update the first post of this one. The thread is here: Please continiue the discussion there Sent you a PM!

Secret of Mana Project This is a continiuation of the SoM project thread by Bahamut. Since Bahamut has much less time on his hands to co-direct this project due to an awesome job promotion (congrats man!), I'm taking the lead on this project. Bahamut will be there to evaluate songs, but his role will be a lot smaller. That said: Welcome to the new Secret of Mana project thread! First of all, the basics: Staff: Directors: pu_freak, Bahamut Assistant director: Not found yet Mastering: Not found yet Site builder: Not found yet Art: keiiii, Odai Project Forums: http://SoMOCR.proboards.com/ Tracklist: Finished WAV (6): 08 - Dancing Animals (Guifrog) 11 - It Happened Once (Guifrog) 24 - The Legend (Devastus) 32 - Ceremony (Radiowar) 37 - The Oracle (The Legendary Zoltan) 42 - Now Flightless Wings (Mikeaudio) 43 - The Second Truth From the Left (Sir Jordanius) Substantial WIP (1): 09 - Distant Thunder (halc) WIP (2): 02 - A Curious Tale (Hylian Lemon) 20 - Calm before the Storm (PabloComa) Claim (21): 01 - Fear of the Heavens (Ergosonic) 03 - Phantom and a Rose (zyko) 04 - Together Always (Hakstock) 06 - Into the Thick of It (Ergosonic) 07 - The Color of the Summer Sky (Rexy) 10 - The Little Sprite (Audio Fidelity, bustatunez, DrumUltimA, Jeff Ball, Abi Coffer) 15 - What the Forest Taught Me (Harmony & djpretzel) 17 - Spirit of the Night (RebeccaETripp) 18 - Did You See the Ocean (Ergosonic) 19 - Danger (Sagnewshreds & jnWake) 22 - Flight of the Unknown (Sagnewshreds) 23 - Eternal Recurrence (pu_freak) 25 - A Bell is Tolling (Chernabogue) 26 - A Curious Happening (Jorito) 28 - The Dark Star (Darangen) 29 - Prophecy (Sbeast) 31 - Whisper and Mantra (RebeccaETripp) 34 - Leave Time For Love (GaMetal) 35 - Still of the Night (Ergosonic) 41 - Meridian Dance (Fishy) 44 - I Closed My Eyes (dannthr) Up for grabs (13): 05 - Fond Memories 12 - In the Dead of Night 13 - Mystic Invasion 14 - Secret of the Arid Sands 16 - A Wish 21 - The Wind Never Ceases 27 - Monarch on the Shore 30 - Steel and Snare 33 - Morning is Here 38 - A Conclusion 39 - I Won't Forget (als featured in SD3) 40 - One of Them is Hope Deadlines: November 1st January 1st - ONLY WIPS ACCEPTED (no more claims) March 1st May 1st - ONLY SUBSTANTIAL WIPS ACCEPTED July 1st September 1st - FINAL CUT-OFF DATE The deadlines are SET IN STONE. The project will not wait for a song to be finished; in other words: most likely, not every song on the soundtrack will be featured on the album. Too many albums have been delayed for far too long because of late addition mixes or slow mixers, which is damaging for the mixes already finished. You can miss one deadline, but otherwise, your song is up for grabs. This obviously doesn't count for the final deadline: if I don't have a WAV by then, your song won't be included on the album. FAQ: Can I join? Of course, if you're a posted mixer and want to mix a song that's up for grabs you'll get a claim. If you're not a posted mixer, you'll have to show me a good WIP. Can I mix a song that's already been mixed on the project? I'd prefer if everybody chose a song that isn't featured yet. However, if you can show me a really good WIP from which I think is in a completely new direction than the song we already have, you can. Is there a genre requirement? No, you can do whatever you think fits the source. I do, however, prefer the mixes to be more on the conservative side than on the really liberal side. What's the quality you're going for? OCR-level quality; I will be really strict (ask the mixers from BadAss 3 :P) and will ask for many updates if we (the staff) feel like the track isn't good enough yet. That's it for now!
-
Sorry to hear that man, but thanks for the heads up! EDIT: I PM'ed all the artists that have a claim/WIP for this project. If you didn't recieve anything, please let me know!
-
He'll send me everything he received so far shortly, but it would be faster if you PM'ed me

Alright guys, sorry for the lack of updates. Bahamut just got a LOT busier with real life, so I will be taking the lead and he will take on a more assisting role. That means: let's get this show on the road! I'll be asking the mods if I can take over the first post, otherwise I'll be making a new thread. In the meanwhile: we have new project forums and we have WIP deadlines! I think the OCR sub-forums aren't really convenient, so everyone involved in the project should register here: http://SoMOCR.proboards.com The forum is also where we will be posting WIPs for feedback. We wil be having a deadline every two months, with a final cut-off date in one year. That means this will NOT be an album where the entire soundtrack is mixed, but rather an album that will be released within two years. If you miss your second deadline, your claim is gone and anyone can take the tracks. Starting from May 1st we will only accept substantial WIPs (where the arrangement is at least 80% done). So the deadlines are: November 1st January 1st March 1st May 1st - ONLY SUBSTANTIAL WIPS ACCEPTED July 1st September 1st - FINAL CUT-OFF DATE Good luck guys!

So the last constructive part of the YT monetization thread was that mixers were letting djp/OCR that they were fine with OCR running ads on the YouTube videos with their mixes. This, so that OCR could gather more data on the effects of enabling ads. The thread was closed because the discussion got WAY out of hand, but since Dave said he would appreciate if we opted in, this thread is relevant in my eyes. Just to make it clear: THIS THREAD IS NOT MEANT FOR DICSUSSION Just state here if OCR can use your mixes for this test run. And obviously, I opt in

If it could, should OCR start compensating their staff?
Pavos replied to Nabeel Ansari's topic in General Discussion
One thing I've learned in organizing several platforms with volunteers: including money changes things. Sure, the people in staff now are not doing it for extra money, but that could be an incentive for people to push for being a staff member. You don't want that line of thought. It also spawns a lot more conspiracy-theories, something you also want to avoid when you're reliant on contributions of others (some if the theories are even going around now that the staff isn't even getting paid). Last but not least: you have to divide the money. Does everyone get an equal share? Or should you get more if you get involved more? Those can be toxic discussions as well. My experience is that these things always get out if hand, no matter how good the intentions see. Compensation for expenses on the other hand works quite well usually (fully compensated travels to conventions and such) -
This is how I feel about the "situation": I was initially opposed to the idea of YouTube monetization, because, as Chimpazilla stated, it feels like specific mixes are making money for OCR instead of the community. It doesn't feel like OCR itself is generating the revenue (like they do with ads on their site), but rather that the artists are generating revenue for them. The other point I have/had is that these ads feel much more intrusive and lessen the experience of listening to mixes - which is a bad thing obviously. Zircon asked the question before if we thought ads on the side/bottom were any different that pre-play ads, and I think it would make a big difference. At least for me it would, because you can let people enjoy the mixes the same as before. However, if the last option isn't really viable then, after reading the discussion, I'm on board with OCR. We are always inherently against change, because we know and trust what was before. Even though it's pointed out that legally and ethically the YouTube plan isn't really different, it's new and different from what we know. But the situation is different as well: if OCR wants to be assured of having a stable and constant revenue stream, things like this are necessary now (since the forum ads don't cut it anymore, as has been stated). To go even further: I hope OCR is looking towards generating even more revenue, so it can grow even further. The bigger the site/network grows, the more it can show off our awesome mixes and visit events. I mean, the whole point of the Patron deal was to help OCR grow, so why are people opposites to the fact that the revenue is more than the costs now? As long as it's used to help grow OCR, I think it's great

OCR03336 - Wild Guns "Amputate Your Metal"
Pavos replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Max did such an amazing job with this one, and I really want to thank him again for taking on this source for BadAss 3 I usually feel that if people mix sources they're not very familiar with, the most creative and interesting remixes are the result, and this is no different: the feel of the original track is there and is immensely intensified (it really is a massive adrenaline building mix), and is complemented by some awesome original stuff (and guitar shreddage). And Max even incorporated the aimed overall feel of BA3 with the excellent addition of orchestral elements that give it an additional militaristic feel. It's certainly no coincidence that this has been (and probably will be) in my top 10 of most played tracks over the past year and a half (yeah, I've had this remix a little longer :P) -
For those still reading these forums: stop it, drop whatever you're doing and go enjoy BadAss Volume 3! Oh and be warned: you might feel a bit twisted and evil when you're done... Go! Go! Go! http://badass3.ocremix.org

I honestly think I learned more about how to make music and to play piano than in the twenty years before OCR. Because of a need for not every song to sound the same, I needed to adapt my left hand playing (which was always the same pattern before) and mess more with dynamics, play with more emotions, and do much more. Yes, I've learned a ton about production and how to compose as well, but I think it's funny that I've improved so much in playing piano - even more than from my lessons way back
-
Hey, that's cheating
-
I'll claim eternal recurrence
-
I see my claim from the previous iteration didn't transfer to this one... I'll look at the tracklist to see which one I'll pick then

The Hero Theme album (the BadAss counterpart) - gauging interest
Pavos replied to Pavos's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
An update: the staff from BadAss 3 is back for this album! In other words: welcome back Chernabogue (assistant director) and timaeus222 (production feedback assistant & album mastering)! -
The Hero Theme album (the BadAss counterpart) - gauging interest
Pavos replied to Pavos's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
Any protagonist which has hero qualities (so Magus doesn't count for instance) and his or her own theme would count. BadAss was also focused on mini-bosses and sub-bosses (Gilgamesh and Slash, to name two) EDIT: We can always discuss cases which are in the 'grey area' -
Just a general disclaimer: my feedback is direct and thus can seem harsh - but I think it's the best way to receive feedback since I think it's the easiest to change things that way. - The track opens hard with a quite loud block chord. Be wary that block chords usually do not carry emotions unless they're handled very well so I would try to use them as little as possible. Especially don't use them as an intro - The left hand is also too loud, makin it sound intrusive (especially when using block chords), and it makes the lead melody difficult to hear - You're going for a tranquil feeling, but you don't really convey it here. This is due to a few things: the left hand (as mentioned above) which should really be supporting the lead melody with as little as possible (if that's the genre you're going for), the lack of humanization in the piano and the lack of reverb. Adding reverb is easy, the humaization can be a little more difficult. Lose the fast-following notes (which aren't fitting in the genre), keep some notes lasting longer, and play more with the volume of different notes. A soft and long lasting note can be something very powerful; the accents you're putting in the notes now are distracting rather than calming. The reverb/lasting notes is really an issue when you change the left hand into a motif: you really need something mimicing a sustaining pedal there. - Keep in mind that you want dynamics in the piece; begin slowly, and start building up some more untill you reach a part with a full soundscape. That doesn't mean an increase in volume or tempo, but rather a more fleshed out left hand, more use of chords in the right hand and usage of low and high notes (bass with high frequencies) Hope this helps!
