  1. donut don't you yell at us enough in tf2 with your "G'day!" and "JARATE!!" and "That funeral won't be open casket!" ?? also yeah i never played dota because i didn't get into wc3, but i am really enjoying HoN. maybe someday i'll even learn the proper way to buy items. it's still fun to get in that one lucky snipe on a guy (usually halt or bahamut)
  2. i love the game but i need a lot more practice, i usually have no idea on what to buy and often forget to use my spells against enemy heroes. also guys don't forget the NDA, etc etc. :\
  3. i'm the cyan sample provided for prison. http://hosting.thasauce.net/users/Garian/music/garian-teenagentsample2.ogg. i'm not really all that good and i tend to just make verbatim covers of game songs because that's usually how i learn to actually do something interesting with the material... if i can muster up the non-laziness. i'm not sure if i'll ever finish this or come up with something a bit more arranged, but whatevs.
  4. hey, be belligerent like me and call them out on their being retarded. it may not make them play better but it does alleviate some of the frustration :V also, d-lux and i have been having problems forcing team scrambles when we use the admin menu- they don't happen. does anyone have any reasons why this may be?
  5. all of the sourcepawn (*.sp) script files for the core plugins are available in the 'scripting' directory inside the sourcemod install. i was under the impression that the alliedmods guys were huge on open source so i was a little confused at your response also it looks like it'd be the mapchooser plugin that would have to be edited, the only thing that the rtv plugin does is catch "rtv" and "rockthevote" in the chat and initiates a vote. trying to figure out anything in sourcepawn scripts is kinda like shoving cats in my eyes though... I THINK i tracked it down to this function here: http://pastebin.com/m565446e8. :\
  6. the rtv plugin is absolutely effing retarded in it's current form. is there any way to force it to only change the map if the vote is >50%? I'm sick of being sent to maps because it was a 30% majority. Especially when we did a nextmap vote early on in the map.
  7. [09:14:45] <garian> tensei pick 3 maps for the finals [09:15:58] <Tensei> Longinus, Outsider, Python, garian [09:16:28] <garian> tensei, looks good sorry about the delay, i like to shirk my responsibilities and play team fortress 2. also i was really kinda hoping that buttousai and nekothug would be available for live casting but it was just a pipedream
  8. You could always try anime remix, Xaleph (formerly djcarbunk1e) runs it sorta, mostly with overcoat doing the legwork if i recall correctly. my brother has that one on the coffee table downstairs but i generally hate things he like because he has the personality of a sea slug and the sense of humour of a cadaver. i might follow this thread and if the discussion is positive enough i may give it a shot. and here's a friendly suggestion, maybe you should edit your topic to say something to the effect of "elfen lied discussion" as the current topic doesn't really elicit much thoughts about anything, and you might end up with a bunch of troll posts that end up sinking the thread into obscurity. Also, maybe you could try to kick-start the discussion with some stuff about what you like about it, so that the thread doesn't feel so much like a 'squeee favourite eeeeeeeee' thread.
  9. oh there was a ninja edit that i missed, you sneaky cop. but there was still Rez and its questionable controller, so i didn't entirely make a mistake. Also, the Ys 3 remake "Oath in Felghana" had high some very energy dance-rock arrangements of the original tracks. It's not really so much a question of "is the mainstream ready" as much as it is "are publishers willing to give dance/trance music a chance?" Because as we all know, the mainstream public will buy just about anything, regardless of quality, if they have been barraged with it enough (i should probably read zircon's blog more). There really is no need for this 'integration' you're talking about, it's an organic process as what is considered mainstream continues to grow and change. Just look at how film scores and soundtracks have changed over the past 40 years for an example. In comparison, the video game industry started very late and didn't have the kind of budgets for soundtracks (nor the technology to support it until even later), but now with the game industry essentially legitimized and game musician as a profession quickly closing in, we're bound to see the kinds of changes that you're noticing... like i said, organic. or maybe i'm just rambling incoherently. i'm going to go play tf2 because now my head hurts :\
  10. d-lux, something like this: SINCE U BEEN GONE etc etc ...right? (cue starblaze's remix of it for maximum effect) also, wasn't there already a dance game that had seen limited success in the USA already? Also wasn't there a lot of dance crossovers in the last 40 years?
  11. i'm like captain s, everything GETS THE KICK! most of the regulars are very well behaved but a lot of pubs and semi-regulars are kinda douchey. don't be afraid to enforce the no trolling rule, usually being polite about what they're doing wrong is good enough and they cut it out... and if not, use the /kick command against their name, and provide them with a snarky comment pertaining to what they're doing wrong. you've seen how i've done it! PS: i will kick people who have been idle for 20+ minutes while i'm on the server, or have been reported to be idle for more than two maps, when the server is highly populated. it's pretty rough getting on and there is no need for people to be choking up the pub slots because they stepped away (yes that means feel free to kick me when i go afk and don't return because i got distracted). nothing "wrong" with what they're doing, but for some reason the server doesn't have a maximum allowable idle time anymore. PPS: maplist looks great
  12. i hope you mean pre-nerf demomen because i never got to play with them
  13. please, keep that commentary crap on a micspam server. Fields, Bahamut has been very busy over the past month and hasn't had much time to deal with the tf2 server, you'd be better off contacting fireslash, powerlord, or now brushfire since he's online again to check the banlist for your IP or steam_id number-- those are the guys with ftp access to the best of my knowledge, so they'd be able to help you out the most. Hopefully the issue can be resolved, I remember playing with you some time ago and you were pretty fun. also: lol what atma said about the steam forums a couple pages ago, i had a good laugh too
  14. jovian, you're out! jade, you're in! windstrike vs friendly hunter semifinal matches: http://hosting.thasauce.net/users/Garian/Starcraft/ocrt1/FW%20R03%20G1.rep http://hosting.thasauce.net/users/Garian/Starcraft/ocrt1/FW%20R03%20G2.rep http://hosting.thasauce.net/users/Garian/Starcraft/ocrt1/FW%20R03%20G3.rep
  15. DS and I were talking the other day about how we like the TC gametype, but that there aren't any decent TC maps (hydro focuses too much on balance and therefore stalemates far too often to be fun, and in my opinion Meridian's lack of TF2 stylization really detracts from it's playability, it can be fun but it doesn't necessarily feel like a TF2 map as much as it should). So we were came up with an idea of using TC to hybridize the other gametypes. Basically, start out with an area that plays CTF style, then it leads into the typical 2-point CP style of Hydro, and it ends with pushing a cart into the enemy's final base. DS's idea is that the map should have a narrative, which is also a great idea, he was kinda playing off of a grocery store idea, the CTF is for the shopping list, and the cart has to get pushed to the cashier. Oops, got a little sidetracked, I told them this morning that I'd make up a quick sketch of what it could look like for that kind of map: Basically, the central area is a neutral flag, and it has to be captured at one of the adjacent RED or BLU cp stations, winning that round would mean that that team takes control of the center, and will attack the other two CPs at random, with one of their 3 territories. Not sure how recapturing the center point would work out, i'm not as knowledgable on mapmaking as i'd like... and this is still just a rough sketch and idea. Another way of doing it is capturing the center opens up different paths that benefit the owner of the center based on which CPs are selected for the mini-round. Thoughts?
  16. i talked with jovian on irc last night, he seemed surprise that he got byes all the way to the semis. i just told jade in a private message that if he can get replays by monday i'll count 'em, otherwise i'll post again that he's in the finals. sorry about dropping the ball so much, just been a weird year :S
  17. losing because of team incompetence or an unwillingness to work together is totally fun. 9_9 regarding soldier/demoman update packs: even if their default weapons are "perfectly fine," balanced alternative weapons would be able to provide the kind of variety that some of the other classes now have, such as the huntsman allowing snipers to become a bit more defensive front-line style class, or the Bonk! energy drink allowing the scout to distract sentries/players and allow his team to follow through with a real attack. of course, neither of these examples are flawless, but that's at least the idea... and don't give me the 'but demo/soldier have exceptional mobility' crap because there really aren't too many ways to do explosion jumps. also if soldier was fine more people would play him hurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
  18. SAM i didn't mean to say that it WAS caused by that, just that that is my suspicion. It could've been some file reference getting changed in an update or something for all we know. but yeah it is pretty annoying.
  19. pretty sure i sent him a copy a few months back on irc my earliest recorded song (2000, featuring my friend joe on vocals): http://hosting.thasauce.net/users/Garian/music/15%20miles%20in%20the%20snow.mp3 my first song in fruity loops (2002): http://hosting.thasauce.net/users/Garian/music/Garian%20-%20dont_know_what_to_do.mp3 my first "remix" (i actually just resequenced a midi in the FL step sequencer): http://hosting.thasauce.net/users/Garian/music/Garian%20-%20Woodman%20has%20a%20headache.mp3
  20. alternatively, change the server to "OCReMix Goldrush/Dustbowl 24/7 | Alltalk" :V I really don't have a problem with the "overplayed" maps. Some people (coughbleckcough) whine that "no one knows how to play these maps but they play them ALL THE TIME," but the truth is "no one knows how to play TF2 but they play it ALL THE TIME." Of course saying that is a kneejerk reaction to ending up with terrible team balance/management on either side. We end up with the same problems on ANY map, and perfectly balanced teams would be dumb because most matches would stalemate or go to SD, or end up in a Red win for Assault/PL. I think people need to ditch the squeamishness of custom maps... a less popular server wouldn't be so bad IMO, because it seems the major point of contention that I have (as well as a few other folks) are the absolutely terrible public gamers. Now that doesn't mean I hate pubbies, but it is extremely frustrating when someone doesn't understand some of the core elements of class playstyle, like flanking as a pyro instead of running head-long into the fray. Aside from that, I play on the OCR server because I know the majority of guys who play there, either from IRC & MAGFest or from them playing there regularly, having the pubbies around to fill out the team numbers is just a bit of a bonus even though it can be maddening. Err... I got sidetracked. WRT custom maps, people say "but they empty out the server!" but generally I find that the more regulars that stay to play on a custom, the more pubs will filter in (although this is not always the case). It's a bit of a cascade effect, if a map is actually good and fun, with a decent-sized handful of regulars, the map will quickly become popular with semi- and non-regular players. Frontier is a great example, I've seen a few 24/25 games on it with a good 50-60% regulars on board. BUT!! we've gotta be certain that people actually LIKE the customs that are selected, it seems lately that while pl_waste gets a decent population, people generally don't like the map because of a few minor issues that balloon quickly, such as the pacing effect of capping the 4th point extending the defensive respawn timer too much, while the cart speed is incredibly fast. As an aside, I'm guilty of "not caring" about 2fort/turbine matches like a few people, but I'm contemplating considering people that go out of their way to be useless to be trolls. Generally talking about demo "pimp walkers" and spycrabs that detract from their team, people who are at least playing team deathmatch are being a bit of a credit. The whole "it's 2fort/turbine, we never take it seriously" schtick is getting old and when the maps are played as intended the games can be pretty intense. People whine about the turtley nature of CTF maps, but IMO that's just a part of the metagame that they're going to have to work around; sentry farms are never invincible and using some of the game's "features" (such as heavy cornering) can change the tide quite quickly, especially when coupled with spy sapping, invuln ubers, and winbombs. That brings me to another issue, Alltalk/Deadtalk. Personally I enjoy the alltalk and friendly nature of the OCR server (even though I'm just a jerk that trolls people ((((((((((((( and stopping is hard it is so tempting) but sometimes I'd like to get in some team-talk games. Then it occurred to me, Wish I Could Shoot has a server for [ZUZ] (and with rambo's financial contributions, [lions]) matches that is normally using a vanilla configuration. So why don't those of us who want to play some team-talk games just go play there once in a while? I'm not going to post the IP publicly out of respect, but if you're on my friend list you should join when I'm playing there, or just ask in the steam chat.
  21. on irc yesterday, i made a suggestion for a new gametype in which one team is all engineers, and they get like a minute or so to set up, and the other team has ridiculously high distance falloff on their damage, but has very low respawn times. it was inspired by the final scene of the "meet the engineer" video, during which 20 or 30 members of the blue team are zerging towards the engineer's campfire. DarkeSword came up with a very ingenious name for the gametype, "SentryBreaker." Obviously it needs to be worked out a bit more, but I think if we could come up with some bounds, we could maybe try to figure out some SM scripting and make it happen! or not... your post, prophet, is what reminded me of it
  22. as soon as we know the contenders in the final match, we should get that set prepared! also: we should excpect commentary from nekofrog and battousai on the other replays whenever they are both able to commit time to casting. AFAIK battousai won't be online until he returns from his trip to korea, and nekofrog will be quite busy in a few months and won't be available. so maybe we should find other casters...? :V
  23. we had a lot of guys decide to back out in the beginning, and then technical difficulties with gario and nekofrog. the next one should do a lot better but i'm the worst person to be in charge of anything ever so i might try to delegate or something. anyway it wasn't a complete failure, but it wasn't "huge success" either.
