  1. sorry guys, i've been pretty distracted (tf2, l4d, sf4, work). the matches are going to be JadeAuto vs NativeJovian and FriendlyHunter vs Wind_Strike The maps will be: Heartbreak Ridge Garden of God Destination take about a week to get your games played, then email me the replays... i'll post jade and vega's replays to http://hosting.thasauce.net/users/Garian/Starcraft/ sooner or later
  2. i work from midnight to 6:30 am central, i leave my house around 11:15 central because i walk to work. i generally prefer to turn off video games around 10:45, JUST FYI.
  3. jade auto won his match... i've gotta go to work soon so i'll figure some stuff out tomorrow.
  4. Sorry about the lack of updates guys, i was REALLY hoping Eddie and Nekofrog would be able to get their games in order, but too much crap has been happening for both of them right now... So they're both DQ'd and we're moving on to the semifinals. You'll have to give me a little bit of time to pick a new map or two to bring into the rotation, but we should have them by friday, and you'll be free to play your games as soon as I post the maps. Also: if someone can 'shop the fancy bracket that Eddie made a few pages back, that'd be super
  5. i don't see the point in requiring someone be a part of this forum/thread in order to be considered for a reservation slot. The OCRTF2 server has been developing its own community fairly organically over the last year, and with it some folks have decided to stop lurking (you know who you are) and others have joined the forums, if only to post in this thread and say "hi!" once and then go back to pew pew. Seems to me that you can't just force people to join the OCR forum community, and to implement a sweeping change to how reserve slots are handled would probably cause a lot more tension than it relieves... sure, you'll be playing with "ocr people," but then you'll just be part of another insular elitist group of jerkfaces that frowns upon people who don't submit to its will. also: the people who micspam on the ocr server that aren't spectreshot are: jenga, duckyboy, shpladoink, atma, demitri omni (grandpa deiter), d-lux (captain yahooooooooooo), chadly (during setup and usually not loud), darkesword (same as chadly usually), f4t4l (sound effects for item get!!), and i'm sure i'm missing some but other than that it's probably just pubbers that i pretty much instamute because they can't read the rules and at least give us a chance to say 'don't be a dick' before being a dick. all it takes is a few seconds of 'hay i'm play song' and i'd probably let it slide or at least give 'em chance to stop it before muting them. ps: spectreshot is a random idiot who came to the server and wouldn't let go of his voice transmit key, after being muted by brushfire for being too offensive, he was unmuted and they recorded that 'heavy meatspin' heavy rush demo, and he invited himself to being a regular since then. i've mostly only tolerated him because other people seemed to like him, and while he can be witty at times he TRIES TOO HARD. pre-post edit: word chadly, that actually sounds like a decent suggestion that with some tweaking i'd totally endorse-- most of the regular players i have befriended have come to me to talk to baha to request a reserve slot because they generally don't play at the same time as he does, even though they've put in plenty of time on the server... after a while it gets hard to play regularly because the server is at 24/25 or 25/25 for a large part of the day; once things get rolling the server will stay jumping for a good long while.
  6. well, there was the 'beta cessions' and a few other special releases, but afaik most of klayton's exposure has been in licensing his songs to every movie of the past decade and re-remixing his own songs. tbh i was a bit more fond of his older project "circle of dust" but that might just be nostalgia talking. i'll give this new one a shot though, thanks derrit.
  7. well, nekofrog and battousai have a lot of stuff coming up, neko is running on a laptop right now and is more obsessed with getting tf2 to run at >9 fps, and battousai is preparing for his trip to korea, and neither of their opponents have contacted me either, so i'm kinda just sitting back and waiting. Gario is still having connectivity issues so windstrike is getting a bye week... I've seen native jovian on IRC but he hasn't actually been active, stuff may have come up for him too. Right now though, I'm just taking a bit more of a laid back approach, we can let things fall in their place, no "deadline" to get your games done or anything-- and if you're hungering for some games, tensei has been playing on iccup a lot and i assume he would appreciate the ability to practice against someone against specific builds without actually having it be a ranked game... try sending him an email/pm or come on IRC and wait for him to pop on, he's usually active during the morning/daytime for the USA users (hooray netherlands time~).
  8. i've been holding off on muting him because when i'm around no one seems to complain about his micspamming and he's considered a regular user, even though i personally don't want to hear it most of the time. I'm really glad that i'm not the only one who's been getting tired of that crap-- it's cute once or twice, but when it's a daily occurrence it gets old fast... particularly the "chanting" thing. pointwhoring isn't necessarily bannable, but if they refuse to help the team out by making their teleports more useful i'd consider it a griefing offense. some maps don't really need teleports (turbine), while others direly need at least one (steel or badwater come to mind), so the map that it's happening on should be taken into consideration, too.
  9. secret info that some people may not want you to know: before the patch, the dead ringer would activate while taunting, allowing sneaky spies to get invisible taunt kills. after the patch, the dead ringer won't activate while taunting, but you still receive the damage protection, thus enabling invulnerable spies that spam the taunt command. the secret is airblasting a taunting spy will cancel the taunt, re-enabling the dead ringer's normal function so you can actually kill him.
  10. are you talking about "garbage day" ? The concept is neat, but that map specifically is fairly poorly designed for the TF2 class balance... it's good for about one round before it just gets stale, because it ends up being "team fortress death match" :S
  11. totally fun! on a seperate note though... i've been noticing since the change in the MOTD to say that micspam is allowed if everyone agrees on it that some people (regulars or not, i'm not trying to single anyone out here) will come on and start playing clips while people are talking, or while someone else is playing a clip during say, humiliation or pregame mayhem. i suggested to bahamut that the wording be changed more to the effect of "micspam allowed at admin discretion," and he replied stating that courtesy needs to emphasized. I also realize that "admin discretion" would play right into favouritism (such as brushfire getting away with playing stuff even when people say 'turn that crap off,' sorry bro but it's happened before), so maybe there should be some clear guidelines set down here, and a tl;dr version for the MOTD. In the same vein, it is my personal opinion that none of the admins should do a client-side mute of anyone, because personal comfort shouldn't come before the server facilitating a fun place to play. Not trying to force that on any of the other admins and i've been quite tempted to client-mute guys myself... Just throwing it out there to see what other folks think. i'd like to second re-adding db_heights to the rotation, because it's familiar but also different, strategies that worked for cp_dustbowl don't work nearly as well (both offense and defense), and the balance changes also keep the pacing fresh. also yes now i need more sleep too
  12. Ok guys! go ahead and get those round 2 games going, and be sure to maintain the format "Gar R02 G1.rep" and here are the three maps you will need: Destination download Neo Medusa download Othello
  13. so zircon brought this up on the ocr tf2 irc chat (#ocrtf2 on etg) the other day... apparently valve bit down really hard on one of the dirty harry movies for the "meet the sniper" soundtrack, here's the theme from "magnum force" with the picture from day 1 of the sniper/spy pack: and here's a "ripped" soundtrack version of meet the sniper (yes the filtering method didn't keep all of the talking out and does cause artifacts which i only noticed after grabbing the link): . and now for a chopped up version of magnum force to sound like meet the sniper: and last but not least, there's a gang garrison 2 chiptune version for totally hilariously awesome imo!
  14. ETG does not support nickname services, so you don't want to put a password in at all... here: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=using+IRC+with+pidgin Also mIRC still allows you to run even after the "evaluation" expires, the notification is merely a nag. it got old to me earlier this year so i finally paid up like a chump.
  15. i used pidgin for irc for about 2 seconds before going back to xchat gnome on ubuntu. it's absolutely retarded for irc. BUT if I recall correctly, all you have to do is create an "account" (it's actually just local settings that pidgin uses) and then tell it which network to connect to (in our case, irc.enterthegame.com) and the channel you wish to join (#ocremix). i MIGHT be wrong though, so you should check the pidgin documentation if it doesn't work that way.
  16. If I recall correctly, the maps we didn't use are othello, destination, and neo medusa. hope that helps! If you guys want some practice, come to #ocremix (the IRC chat) and ask around.
  17. all of the replays that were sent in are located at http://hosting.thasauce.net/users/Garian/Starcraft/ocrt1. i never got replays from synthstampede/nekofrog's game, and i omitted my replays from the games with JadeAuto because he sent his in. enjoy
  18. yeah, i feel you on the lack of demo, and i waited until the weekend because i WAS hoping for a deal :[ There have already been a lot of KF/L4D arguments all over the place lately, but really the closest comparison would be like, imagine if L4D survival mode utilized the entire levels, had random ammo/weapon drops but no infinite ammo to grab from, and you could buy ammo/weapons during the lulls with cash earned from killing zombies. Which really i guess makes it sound more like L4CS but with 6 players and nastier zombies. Really the biggest difference (and the hardest adjustment for me) is iron sights. but once i got the hang of it it's actually quite nice. but i guess that getting a description still doesn't give you actual game time if you have UT2k4 you could probably install the old mod version, i'm not sure how different it is, compared to the commercial release, though.
  19. So this game came out last month on steam and Yosho (aka scytheful) and a handful of TF2 regulars bought it and played it quite a bit... and they convinced me to give it a shot! It's apparently a commercial ut2004 mod (don't quote me on that, though, I may be wrong) and it's pretty fun. It's also pretty scary trying to solo the game on normal, it's designed for 6 player co-op. The game uses a "perk" system that tracks your progress with specific weapons and actions and unlocks new levels of each of the 6 perks for hitting specific goals (such as shooting 30 zombies in the head with one of 3 specific weapons for the sharpshooter), and teams that hope to win will usually have balanced perk selection. The perks themselves offer quite a few benefits, such as reduced weapon prices, reduced damage from zombies, or increased damage output for specific weapons. Speaking of weapons, there are quite a few of them built into the game, and the game also supports UT style mutators so there are probably people working on weapons to add into the game as well! The game is 20 dollars through steam, and it's quite a change of pace from TF2/L4D. http://store.steampowered.com/app/1250/ if you want to check it out, unfortunately there's no demo but there is a trailer available, and there are some gameplay videos on youtube. EDIT: Since those of us who have been playing (Yosho/Scytheful, !! and his friend ??, Ceracryst, meatball, V!tal, F4T4L, and I) have been relying on one of us to host, I decided to go ahead and order a private dedicated server from gameservers.com, at least so the games don't end when the host calls it quits. Server IP:Port 68.232.161.145:7707 The password is norandoms hopefully some more of you guys will get interested in the game, we had some epic times earlier where Ceracryst tried to chainsaw a Flesh Pound that was at full health while it was targeting me. It resulted in my body being torn to a pulp of course!
  20. So, Gario, Elesarana said she had to forfeit, which means you move on. Talk to battousai about some options for playing because he's better at giving directions than me. Also, Eddie and Nekofrog are in the process of getting all of the VODs up, and after they're on YouTube the winners will be announced and we'll take a week-long break to allow for some practice. I would've posted something sooner but I was waiting on Ele/Gario's games to happen (which they didn't)... We haven't given up yet and Round 2's games are certainly going to be exciting!
  21. haha friendly hunter, round 2 can start after we have all of the casts finished, i'll announce the winners of the matchups and then we can start. AND! since the second round will all be people who were around during the first we shouldn't have any no-shows if you have steam or use IRC get in touch with me and i'll play against you some time
  22. It's fine, Gario. We have most of the replays to be casted whenever Neko and Eddie set up a time for that, once they get recorded I'll host an archive of the first round replays and the second round will begin. Good luck
  23. i just remembered why we quit talking about turning alltalk off, baha installed a teamtalk/alltalk plugin that lets you switch between them but iirc he didn't get it configured properly or it didn't work?
  24. Hate to do it but today was the deadline... Nekofrog and Native Jovian will be proceeding to the next round as their opponents were no-shows. I've been in contact with both of them on IRC and it's kinda frustrating that it happened. Part of that too was the informal nature of our first tournament, for the team tournament we'll have established match times so that we don't have a repeat offense. Bleck informed me that he's dropping out because he's not familiar with the game, so Battousai also gets a freebie. :\ Gario and Elesarana are the last matchup that I need replays from and as I've been in touch with both AND was informed that they were setting up a time to play, I'll grant them an exception to the deadline. I'm not going to penalize anyone for not saving their replays since I've got replays for the other matches (thanks vega12 and windstrike!) I'm going to review all of the replays and send the ones I think are going to make for the best commentary to Nekofrog and Battousai, talk with them about joining the skypecast. I'm fairly certain that Battousai will be recording it as well, in order to sync the commentary to videos of the replays Sorry I've been kinda lax about the management guys, hopefully round 2 will go a bit smoother!
