  1. I can work with anything, but just a question, why are so many stages banned? Here's as good place as any for stage discussion, I suppose.
  2. Try using pit for a lot of them. His arrows come out fast and go very far, and can be angled slightly if you need it in a few cases. Then he's got a lot of jumps which makes it easy to maneuver in the air. Shooting a target down with an arrow can save a lot of time where otherwise it would require backtracking(going to the target, turning around, and coming back). I covered the target test level 5 in I think 23 seconds out of the 30 second goal without much effort that way. The only one different from that, I think, is target test 4, but I don't remember which one I completed that one with. For that one, it is all about the route you take.
  3. Smashville IS the best stage in the game. It just freakin' rocks. Anyway, it looks good in brawl for not having too many stages banned. Only ones that I would ever like to see banned for common tournaments is Rumble Falls, Mario Bros., 75m, Spear Pillar, Mushroomy Kingdom, Wario ware, New Pork City, Big Blue, and Temple. For competitive tournaments, that is, because I can play Temple or Big Blue w/ my friends anytime and the all of them can be really fun if you're in the mood for something different. Out of 41 stages, that leaves a LOT to play on. <3 Brawl's massive increase in variety in stage, MUSIC, and character choice.
  4. I mind the up-B nerf, but that's just because the old up-B had to be one of the most fun moves in melee period. Even the players with the best sportsmenship couldn't help themselves murmur "cheap" everytime they got KOed by it. I like the new link. He plays different though. His projectiles no longer really setup for combos. In fact, I don't think the new link can combo anything except a couple up-tilts at some low %s. But it's a brawl character in a brawl world now, so he doesn't come up short in a lot of ways that he did before. Anyway, link is a camper. Just stay planted somewhere and just use the crap out of your projectiles- the bombs are hefty and have a low trajectory that is hard to go under with the small guys, the bow charges up a lot faster and does good damage and has decent knockback, and the boomerang comes out quickly- and although it doesn't help link chain into other moves like it did in melee it is a lot better at messing up people's approaches with it's more horizontal knockback and it's push/pull characteristic. And that's the whole deal. Camp with projectiles, and let them get punished as they shield/dodge/roll to you with that disjointed hitbox of a sword of his, knock them away(because pretty much of all his moves have pretty solid knockback, it's why you can't combo) and they have to repeat past the projectiles all over again. His Up-B is still very useful out of a shield, and his ranged grab goofs up a lot of shield based approaches. Also, try using his grapple-attack with a short hop. It comes out fast, it completely cancels on landing for 0 lag, has decent knockback and stun, is easily the longest ranged aerial move he has, and can even hit twice for ~8% damage. His recovery sucks hard though.
  5. I wouldn't worry too muchs about at-muhs sonic is really bad stuff like I zaid sonic is unusual but just because he's not straight forward doesn't mean he's weak.
  6. Rargh, yes. 35(I haven't actually counted) fully fleshed out characters really makes things fun, there are just so many match-ups, so many neat things everybody is doing with their own guy. Oh, and Sonic is like, super-complex, or something. He's so unusual to go up against, with any character vs. sonic nothing seems normal, because he's so fast he plays almost completely differently. Sonic doesn't KO me like normal people(in fact I don't think sonic CAN KO like normal people), sonic always KOs me with some crazy flying recovery gimping attack or sends me up really high then chases with up-b and uairs me off the top at low %. What is everyones "main" turning out to be, anyway?
  7. =P I've had brawl since release night annd yet I share your feelings on the characters. Almost ALL of the characters are just so cool and well done. They all got great personality and use to them, I think, each one's game is all different. And Yeah, Subspace is a really fun way to get introduced to all the characters. Did you see G & W's up-air attack? It actually blows people back upwards, how cool is that! G & W has a crazy game this time around, I mean, he was neat in melee, but he feels SOO much more solid and even MORE unique now.
  8. Finally added myself to the database, enough lurking for me, in a couple of days I'll be on a rather long spring break for a lot more brawl playing.
  9. Level 9s still have the better-than-human speed and reflexes, so when you're fresh to the game they help get your timing and spacing down on a lot of moves, helps a lot. Also, they can teach you things quickly, like the use of being fast, shielding, rolling and dodging, and they come with basic "insticts" like grabbing people using their shield a lot and whatnot, which are all good basic things to pick up. Then it's all just play play play! as many other good people as you can, and never blame the game for a loss, always yourself. It's pretty fun that way.
  10. I can b-stick without the b-sticking, =P. It's just a needless amount of more work to do. B-sticking doesn't do all that much for a good number of characters, it's really just a choice on what you want to make easier to do- spaced aerials or b-sticking maneuvers? Anyway, does anybody even KNOW anybody who has a good sonic? I don't think sonic is bad, but he's not exactly the most straight forward, high priority KO guy out there, and for what it's worth half the time if you just try to pick up sonic every attack looks the same and he's hard to control simply because he's so fast. Oh, and who doesn't enjoy hearing "YOU'RE TOO SLOW! YOU'RE TOO SLOW!"? Yay sonic.
  11. The maze isn't all that bad. They give you teleports, a map that shows you the location of all the baddies, and plenty of saves which completely restore your damage and your lives. Load up your 4 favorite characters with those insane bonuses those stickers give you, and you just get to run around and enjoy it. Also I'm not sure how those event matches could be considered tailored to the hardcore. I went through them all today on hard without much difficulty. They really aren't that bad. So, I'm aiming at unlocking all of the soundtracks in the game. Since I'm just going off of the "challenges" pane, some of the things I have to do seem really insane. Or tedious, like 50 hours worth of brawl matches. Still, it's a pretty cool way to do it and makes all those additional modes pretty fun. I'm wondering, can you unlock a random stage selection option, like in melee it limits which stages are chosen randomly? The ability to control the frequency that the soundtracks play on each stage is brilliant. They did a really good job in this aspect. I love the fact that I can turn off the ones that bother me and make the really cool ones more frequent, and with so many of them so high quality it makes it 10x more fun to play and beat up on your friends with. Since there is no analog shield option anymore, and customizable controls, I assigned the shield button to x, normally use y for jump. Improves my ability to time a perfect shield a ton, the ease of which you can perfect shield is extremely abusable in the game. I consider it a good thing. I'm thinking about switching to a classic controller scheme for playing just because it does not come with analog shoulder buttons and the fact that the controls can be completely customized. Lastly, despite seeing really good Olimars, Toon links, Marths, etc... I'm left to believe that Brawl is a lot more balanced than Melee was.
  12. I'm desperately trying to make my Samus and ZSS work. Playing almost exclusively those two, I still struggle to KO with Samus and punish rolls with the both of them, and I get out prioritized much to often while playing ZSS, although I can combo people upwards pretty well and KO much better. So out of frustration I took a break and played a bit of Ike and I can completely dominate. The ease in which you can perfect shield negates any weakness his speed may otherwise have given him. He's only really vulnerable to stage hazards, which are rarely present on the most played courses, and his recovery, which is still not bad with his over-b and the fact that to send him off in the first place takes a lot of work. Projectile spammers just take a bit of patience. And that's that. I easily find Ike to be the best character in my hands. I may end up using Ike over ZSS in brawls and 2v2, but I don't want to give up on Samus or ZSS at all. But I just can't seem to do something right about it. I improved a big deal at first after I tried playing Samus aggressively, using the fact that all of her aerials autocancel on landing and the fact that she has quick attack speed, instead of playing a more missile-spam like style w/ lots of use of her neutral air move from Melee, but it just isn't enough.
  13. About the online play. After I realized it wasn't smart to put your wireless router next to walls or large metal objects like, oh say, the metal filing cabinet my wireless router was sitting on, lag was pretty much nonexistent. In fact, it was good enough for me to play all day, so lag-free that it was as fun as if the players were actually there. After stating this, let me give my review of the game. Brawl is GOOD. Played with friends mostly, but random online brawls were all interesting. The 2 minute timer is annoying. It always felt 50/50 in random brawls, but the interesting thing was is that I never lost. But I've now seen way more sudden death matches than I ever want to see again.
  14. Took a stab at a more interesting route on my way back, ended up going through the town named Bettendorf, enjoyed the sound of it. Shortly afterwards I was asked for an Alias, shortened to 8 letters became Etendorf. 4 letter variant dropped to just Eten.
  15. Yes you do. Just from memory. Take the daughter and go fetch the gloves. That's like top level, very short, out of the giant fish made of blocks. Then go back for the Dad as you complete his section first. Or at least running off w/ the dad is what I would do instinctively. If you think of the labyrinth going off into 4 different sections from the dragon, one for each character(Dad, Mom, Daughter, and Family Pet. The son is a wuss and doesn't do any work until the end). I'm pretty sure the dad's to the left and up. Although you may also do the family pet's one at any time, and his is also likely completable by other characters(you can do a spike-walk) but remember that the crown bosses get progressively harder. If you are persistent that should get you through the game. Each next step you should feel pretty confident in your characters block moving and mobility items.
  16. Why did it take me five pages to find just one mention of this game?! Shame on the bunch of you. I've never defined myself as an old school gamer, but I put more time into these games and SNES games even today. Oh yeah, if you can, beat Legacy of the Wizard without a walkthrough. I did it... after over 10 years. The feeling of success afterwards is incredible though. Just take the tip that each crown/section is meant to be done by each character, once you follow that and get basic item and area recognition, you'll find it... possible.
  17. Interesting, Injin. Luigi is pretty damn incredible, actually. Tap, tap, SHORYUKEN!
  18. You think... this might mean what you are all hoping, that it won't sound as low quality as it does on the site...?
  19. I will be incredibly overjoyed to find leaderboards as an option for online smash. I think the game deserves that sort of thing.
  20. I wouldn't be glad about the lack of leaderboards. Competition in its own light is very fun, and a leaderboard or ranking system greatly adds to the competition. You can cut out conversing, etc. and just keep it to single names and rankings. I'll still get my fun in playing smash with people over the internet, but SSBB just won't be as competitive without a leaderboard.
  21. Nom nom, some advice on getting better. You got to play more. And play more people. It helps because it forces you to learn to win, so you see a lot of things. Secondly, don't overrate the technical stuff. You just need to be able to add those speed-increasing things to your games. Example: l-cancel. That's it. Watch one of the videos that just lists all of those technical stuff, then play real games and simply put them to use. It isn't hard to tap the l-button when you hit the ground. Lastly, just watch some talented players games on youtube or something. Watching what works for them and what mistakes they make will help you see what works and what doesn't when you play yourself. Don't worry too much, just pick up a few things, and play more(and stick to one guy, it helps). If you lose motivation, go watch your favorite matches or combo video!
  22. I wish I knew why it has taken so long for Nintendo to start having any online play support. Yay for SSBB taking the first step. Hopes to nintendo and developers to jump on this and we see a surge in online-ready games for the Wii.
  23. That is a very simple problem that has been fixed. A disconnect, be through lag or intentional, the remaining person uploads the game to the stat server as a win.
  24. It should be ranked. A rating server isn't hard to manage. Would work just like an RTS. Do 1v1s, and 2v2s. Finding matches pairs people off. This way you can play people from all over competitively and quickly. =/ However, I'm glad it is confirmed it can be played over the internet!
  25. To answer the stuff in your spoilers....The groan inducing speech is during the credit scroll. A woman's voice comes in and says some stupid stuff. Pay closer attention to some of the music. Pirate Homeworld, for example, had good super Metroid in it. Skytown was enjoyable. Item rooms actually had faint item room music in it. Title music is great. etc. Pirate room drop thingies code is what you need to gain control of the leviathan. It is required for the last portion of the game. You can actually sequence break in there like you were trying and skip needing those two fuel cells. There is a video out there on youtube I think already showing how. I believe you screw attack onto that platform, get the knockback animation and fall down into the pit, and it reappears you outside of the door you try to get to. You can also skip another two fuel cells in the room with the ramps that need power with just a bomb space jump. Both of these are useful because, like I said before, you need that pirate code to get control of the leviathan.
