  1. I think both gentlemen have hit this on the head, but I'm inclined to agree with Vinnie a little more. The arrangement is really good, and the glitching and also the panning are used very effectively (if not a tad much). The lead melody is incorporated well, but sometimes is a bit buried. Take some care to get the balance worked out. The samples that are weak unfortunately do stand out and are dragging the track down, especially in the beginning section when they are much more exposed. I think this is on the right track, but needs some adjustments before it is a pass. NO (resubmit)
  2. It will be a lot different at meetups without you, Wes. Good luck though!
  3. I can also echo that the title is awesome. It is a shame that the opening is as weak as it is, because the rest of the song is pretty decent. I can agree with Vig that the performances overall are not great, but when things get going I think they do the job decently enough. I would definitely like to see you improve, because there are some great ideas going on here that will only sound better as your skill increases in playing. Ideas are pretty good, and the performances overall are passable, though it is borderline. Keep improving, please! YES (borderline)
  4. Right off I'm going to have to agree with Vinnie, despite him not actually voting yet. I can't help but feel like this is just a cover of the source the way it is. There just isn't enough arrangement for this to pass. The fact that the melody is pretty much verbatim to the source is really what's kicking this down, because everything else is sounding good. I will admit that there is an original section from ~2:15-2:56, but after that it jumps right back to the source. I like the mood, the soundscape, production is pretty good to my ears, but the arrangement needs more work for this to be a pass. NO (resubmit)
  5. RoboAvenger approves of this post.
  6. OA's got it right for this one. I agree that PMD (both the older and newer games) have some fantastic music, and I am liking where you went with the style of this track. I think it's pretty solid arrangement-wise, and I personally don't feel you need any more in there, though it certainly couldn't hurt. There's not much I can add to what OA said about the production, which is pretty much the same problem I am having with the track. I think that fixing up the mechanical piano and adding a little bit of vibrato to the flute will be the bigger steps for me, but the percussion at the beginning needs to be spruced up as well. I think it is close, but not quite ready yet. NO (resubmit)
  7. Overall I am going to have to agree with Andrew on this one. Right now I feel like things are not meshing well enough together, either through the different sections, or the combination of the chip and real sounds. The first transition is particularly rough, and needs some better indication about the change as well as a smoother move overall. The second transition is much better than the first, but it still sounds pretty different from the two other sections and causes a bit of disjointedness. The sections need something that can connect them a lot better, to make the overall song more cohesive to the listener. The chip and real sounds right now are also sounding like they are not connected. The chip stuff is very dry and doesn't sit in the soundscape with the rest of the instruments. Work on having everything mesh a little better. As Vinnie mentioned, the last third or so of the song isn't really clear on where the source is, if there is source in there at all. With the rest of the song as is it does still work over the bar for source usage, but a clearer connection will help things along, and add more roots to the original source. I think this one needs some more work before it is ready. NO (resubmit)
  8. For the most part, minus these past few weeks because of Otakon and other things, I or OA try to update every Wednesday. Now that Otakon is (sadly) over, it should get more consistent again.
  9. I didn't get too many pics, but there are some of the panel crowd http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1552103&id=1277193921&ref=notif&notif_t=photo_comment#!/album.php?aid=74490&id=1277193921&ref=mf

  11. Actually, does anyone have the "BGC"? I need to add it to my collection. Also, nice mix! P.S. - Could use the "DJP" as well.

  15. Quoted for truth. EDIT: And here's how he can do it!
  16. Didn't really attract them, but playing Soul Blazer at TEP with the OCR crew watching.
  17. My only, and this is a small one at that, complaint is that when the jazz kicks in, the song is almost over! I really like what you've done here with the melody, and this was a very enjoyable listen. Your playing ability is very apparent here, and you aren't afraid to add some style. I like the risks you took with the chords, and honestly, nothing felt out of place. I will look forward to hearing more songs from you, hopefully you develop that jazz style a little more and can pull out a longer arrangement for us next time. YES
  18. I'll agree with OA that this is tough to judge, but I think there is enough here to be a yes. There are plenty of references to the sources, although they are a little hidden at times. Production was good, although I personally don't like how empty the soundscape is. On the other side, too much going on would drown out the vocals, so it's a trade-off. Good luck with the rest of the vote. YES
  19. Very little I can add to what Andrew has already said. I like the arrangement overall, and I think there are some nice embellishments throughout that really add some charm. I personally didn't have a problem recognizing the first motif, so I think the longer intro works. I agree with OA that the strings are a little bit much at times, to the point where they are not supporting the piano like it should. Panning would work nicely here. I'm also not a fan of the slow down section, it feels a little mechanical to me, but I think that's personal taste. A nice relaxed track here. YES
  20. Seeing as it is the day before a convention for me, I'm going to have to say no myself. Good luck on getting a group together.
  21. I was wondering if it was just a 4th of July thing...but it's a French game, so....yea
