  1. Submission download link: Your ReMixer name: meccaneer Your real name: TJ Ryan Your email address: Your website: http://www.facebook.com/TheMeccaneer Your userid (number, not name) on our forums, found by viewing your forum profile: 2452 Name of game(s) arranged: Gradius 3 Name of arrangement: Hero of the Flame Name of individual song(s) arranged: Fire Scramble Additional information about game including composer, system, etc. (if it has not yet been added to the site) Harumi Ueko, Kazuhiko Uehara, Kazuki Muraoka, Yukie Morimoto Link to the original soundtrack (if it is not one of the sound archives already available on the site) Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc. This game has one of my favorite soundtracks, but it's just so fast! I needed to slow things down to really hear the grittiness and intricacy. --------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyjbqV4d5SI
  2. Fourth votes are always great, because all these gentlemen have already said everything I would cover. Really solid approach to the source, and you put together a great soundscape. You're definitely getting stronger in your skills, looking forward to more mixes from you. YES
  3. This one's pretty tough. You've got a pretty fun groove going on, and when things really kick in it's an interpretive and fun take on the source. My issue is that it takes a long time to get to that point. As it stands the first 1/3 of the song has no source reference whatsoever, and then it comes in slowly. I would argue that that is a lot to go before we have a connection, but I'm curious what the other judges think. Production is pretty good. The only issue I have there is that there is a lot of reverb on the bell synth and it could be turned down a bit. NO (resubmit)(for now)
  4. Right away I'm noticing that bell sample can be a bit piercing. Toning down that a tad might be a good idea, although it's thankfully very brief, and when it comes in later it's in a lower octave. In terms of the other production aspects, I'm not super fond of one of the lead synths you use, but it gets the job done, so I'll pass it off as personal preference. Your solo area the volume feels like it jumps around a bit, and it is a little distracting. Lastly, the drums feel like they are on autopilot for a lot of the mix. Nitpicks done, I like the overall soundscape you are working with, and I think you worked well with what you have. One thing I find pretty neat is the super fast backing sound wall you have that sets up an interesting texture throughout. I think the arrangement is what really shines here, especially the interplay between the two sources. They are integrated really well with one another, and you do a great job of sprinkling cameos of the other theme when one has the front. Your production is definitely improving, and there's still more you can work on. Based on this track I'd suggest looking into making your drum writing more interesting so that it works with your arrangement more. Yes
  5. I really don't know how to be more specific than Andrew already has been. It's a strange source to begin with, and it's a hard mix to judge. I definitely agree that the lack of a clear direction makes it the most difficult to put my finger on how to make this better while staying true to the style of what you're going for. I'm curious what the next judge will think. The choice of sounds is pretty good for this sort of otherworldy feel , for sure. The instruments have a good interplay with each other. I do agree with Andrew as well on the EQ clean up. I think adding a bit more of a focus in the track or really showing the build a little more will help bring this to a state that's in OCR's standards. NO (resubmit)
  6. Arrangement is fine, production is fine. Not something I'd listen to, but it gets the job done. YES
  7. Caught up with the episodes today. As much as I originally wasn't sure about the whole technology jump, I'm really happy with how things are presented overall. Love the radio-drama intros, the music is obviously fantastic. As DarkeSword said, the last episode's choreography was great. I'm curious if the entire series will only take place in Republic City. As cool as it is, I'm missing a bit of the adventuring aspect from Airbender. It's really a small thing compared to how good things are shaping up so far, and there's still plenty of time for them to expand on the world, so I'll keep my hopes up.
  8. Is it just me, or does the source tune have a lot of instruments that are a little behind the beat? That's terribly annoying to listen to. This mix, however, does not have that problem. There's also a lot of little details and personalization going on that adds a lot of energy to this. I think the soundscape works well, and the sounds, while a little generic, are used to their strengths. I am disappointed that the second half is pretty much a copy-paste of the first. You presented a lot of really cool ideas in the first half, so I know you can do more with the second. As is, I can't let it go. Either shortening the mix or revamping the second half is going to be needed for this to pass. (Go with the second option, IMO). NO (resubmit, please!)
  9. Pretty cool combination of the more homey acoustic guitar and the spaceyness of the chiptunes. Overall I like the personalization that both of you brought to the track, although I was expecting a little more development overall to the theme. I'm surprised there isn't a solo area or something similar. The length of the track and the fade out make this feel a little more rushed than I normally hear from either of you, but I think it's still got a lot of personality and remains above the bar in terms of OCR standards. YES
  10. This is pretty interesting, especially since as a whole the arrangement is super sparse. There's barely any bass in here, and rarely more than 3 instruments going on at the same time. In terms of how things stack up, I'd have to say it's easily more interesting when there are more parts going on vs. the single melody sections. Fleshing out your arrangement overall would really help things here. Similarly, the drums overall have an interesting texture, and I like them, but with so little going on elsewhere it's hard for the drums not to sound repetitious quickly. Adding more interesting fills and writing overall will help keep things interesting in a sparser atmosphere like what you have. On production I am noticing some areas of distortion/crackling. Maybe another judge could confirm that for me. In terms of the sounds themselves, I wasn't super blown away by anything, and I didn't think anything was at a level that needed to be switched out. The older sounds kinda work for what you're going for, but other's may disagree. I will note that a lot of the parts sound very mechanical, and could use some humanization. There is a lot of work to be done here, but I think in terms of the actual arrangement structure you have things planned out well. Fleshing out the arrangement itself will be a good start to things, and hitting up some production issues. NO (resubmit)
  11. Had to listen to this one a few times to really settle on it. I like that there's a lot of variation in your samples, especially as they are all free. The spaghetti western feel is pretty natural for the source, and I like how you incorporated it throughout in your mix. I'd say this is one of your better-produced mixes I've heard yet. Keep em coming! YES
  12. Going to agree with Andrew on this. This is a good start to a mix, but overall it's pretty close to the original. I can't say I'm a fan of the super short melody notes; they feel like they're trying really hard to be non-existent. Drums are also pretty basic, and the kick feels pretty up front in the soundscape compared to the rest. Plenty to address with the arrangement itself, but there's some production aspects that can be tweaked as well. Also, touching up the ending! NO
  13. Definitely an interesting approach to two themes that are both related, and not. I think that your approach of combining the two themes works a little better on paper than it does in practice, mostly because the notes are so close in range that it's hard to make out one theme or the other clearly. Having one an octave higher than the other might have fixed that, or having more drastically different instruments. Aside from that, the arrangement is pretty clear on the two themes, and they are nice approaches to both. I'm not completely sold on the transitions at a couple spots, but I think it's not at a level where I think it affects my vote. Production is clean and the parts are varied. Nice drumwork overall, and the playing is good. I'm definitely willing to call this a pass. YES

This is mainly Maya's Theme remix from Persona 2 that starts off with bits and pieces from Mining Melancholy and Persona 2's world map. Magical Sound Shower acts as a bridge before I switch back to Maya's Theme. Ending is all original stuff. I really wanted to make a pure 80's pop song so you can expect to hear all sorts of 80's instruments. I love 80's to death and was really looking for a way to pay my tribute. I hope you guys like like, I had a lot of fun making this track

I almost threw the towel in with this one, but I've given it one last shot. I think that all the previous production concerns have been addressed and hopefully there aren't too many new ones. The direction with this track is to go for a kinda upgraded 80's vibe (hence the fake brass synths). In terms of arrangement, I've cut out some parts to keep the flow of the track and get rid of the repetition. There is a completely new ending and more personalisation. Source Breakdown: 00:00 - 00:20 - Extended version of source introduction's section B 00:20 - 00:33 - Source verse with added harmonies 00:33 - 00:47 - Source Chorus with variation of introduction's motif accompanying (brass synth) 00:47 - 00:53 - Source introduction section B on Rhythm guitar 00:53 - 01:05 - Variation/Original Verse 01:05 - 01:19 - Variation/Original Chorus 01:19 - 01:45 - Variation/Original breakdown section. Uses motif from the source's introduction section A 01:45 - 02:21 - Original solo section based off (uses same chords) the source's lead to the solo section. 02:21 - 02:27 - Source's introduction section B 02:27 - 02:40 - Variation/Original Verse section 02:40 - End - Variation/Original Chorus with Source's chorus as counter-melody Other than that, I hope you enjoy the mix if nothing else!

Remixer Name: TheGuitahHeroe Song/Game Remixed: Kanto Gym Leader Battle from Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal ( )Remix Name: "The Gym Leader is Royally Pissed" I actually did this for a Pokemon G/S/C project being done on the forum I'm a moderator of, which can be found here [shamlesspromotion] http://www.fanmadepokemon.proboards.com [/shamlesspromotion]. Shoutout to EmuZSNES for coming up with the title! But yeah. More dubstep crap here. I suppose I should provide a breakdown for this one: Source: Intro -- Part 1 -- Part 2 -- Part 3 -- Major Bridge -- Loop to Part 2 and repeat I've provided the number of seconds in (parentheses) next to the times to make it easier to count them to calculate total source usage. :12 - :15 (4) and :21 - :24 (4) -- Bells play lead from part 2 of source :24 - :35 (12) -- Almost straight source usage from part 3 of source :37 - :43 (7) -- Lead plays major bridge :48 - :51 (4) -- DIRECT AUDIO SOURCE USAGE LOL __________________________________________________________________________________________________ (from :51, the source is used mainly for backing harmonies, I'm putting these into a side pool in case this doesn't actually count as source, although I think it does) :51 - :55 (5), :57 - 1:00 (4), 1:15 - 1:18 (4), 1:22 - 1:25 (4), 1:31 - 1:33 (3), and times all that times two for the repeat of the chorus in the second half (so make that (10), (, (, ( and we'll say (7))-- high bells play lead from part 2 (all of these are like one second long:) 1:03, 1:06, 1:09, 1:21, 1:24, 1:27 (6 altogether), and against times it by two for the repeat in the second half -- bass plays riff from part 1 of source 2:29 - 3:17 (all throughout the second chorus): DIRECT AUDIO SOURCE USAGE LOL plays in the background throughout (I actually have no idea how many seconds to count this as since it plays during a lot of other source parts as well, so I'll settle for (20) seconds or something... __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Alright, that was the side pool. I'm sure you guys have had more fcked-up breakdowns than this. Right?.... ... 1:05 - 1:10 (6) -- lead from part 3 of source escapes from the wrath of the dubz for a short while 1:34 - 1:40 (7) -- same, except from the latter half of part 3. 1:40 - 1:50 (11) -- hardcore noodling of lead from part 3. 1:58 to 2:01 (4) -- riff from part 1. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Oh yeah, and DIRECT AUDIO SOURCE USAGE LOL plays throughout the break from 1:40 to 2:04 (2ND SIDE POOL FCK YEAH) (I'm counting this towards the (7) seconds during the break which did not include other source material...in the side pool of course) ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2:04 - 2:16 and 2:16 - 2:26 (24) -- straight source usage from part 3, with the latter section being half-tempo or whatever you call it 3:17 - 3:29 (13)-- Almost straight source usage from part 3 of source again 3:30 - 3:35 (6)-- Lead plays major bridge again And I think that's about it. ADDING TIME (ambiguity ftw): Regular Pool: 102 of 228 seconds total source = 44.7% (well that's not that good is it) Side Pool: 80 of 228 seconds total source = 35.1% (I guess this makes it better??? LOL) Total: 182 of 228 seconds of total source (regular and side pool included) = 79.8% source So yeah. Whether or not this meets arrangement requirements depends on whether the 'side pool' source usage actually counts as source usage.................. I hope you guys enjoy regardless

My engineering prowess has grown considerably since the last try, hopefully its a marked enough improvement. This version includes tighter performances and generally a better soundscape.

You can find the original song in the first 40 seconds of this video --> . I don't know of any other place where you can find it.Comments about the mix: A friend of mine played this game a couple of years ago. When he showed me the game, I liked this music and after a while, I thought it would be nice to remix it in a rock/metal style. My brother gave me the final idea for the drums and I decided to do it. I used SONAR as the sequencing software, as I always do, with several VST's to achieve a good sound. Part of it was played live with a MIDI controller, but most of it was done by manually scoring each track. This is my first submission to OCRemix, so I probably made some things wrong. If there's anything to correct or some additional information you need, please let me know. I don't have a personal Webpage, so I'm sending the MP3 file as an attachment. Hope it's not much of a problem. Thanks in advance. Sincerely, Diego.

Contact Information Jakesnke17 Jacob Diaz http://djjd.bandcamp.com My UserID: Jakesnke17: http://ocremix.org/forums/member.php?u=28914 Submission Information Mega Man 9 "Abstract Bond" Mega Man 9 "Concrete Man" Source: Hey, you guys...seems I'm still going the Mega Man route with the submissions I've been bringing forth, can't get enough of the stuff I suppose. Anyway, a while back Darkesword was throwing together a Concrete Man Remix Album and despite how fast I was working on this remix, I couldn't get it finished in time before I had to move to Los Angeles...so, naturally, I put it aside to continue work on it later and now 6 months have passed and here we are. This one is a little different than my other two submissions. I was going for a jazzy, chippish vibe layered with lots of smooth bass. When I was listening to the album, I didn't hear anything quite like it...so hopefully it's worth listening to. Thanks again.
