Unlike my other two tracks, I nailed what I wanted it to sound like the first time, for the most part—this submission only has a couple of very minor tweaks. This particular track is a crazy mix of hard house with energetic live drums, tortured synths, and a bit of a dubstep breakdown for good measure. Inspired to some degree by Le Castle Vania and his similarly-adrenaline-infused music, particularly this track: http://soundcloud.com/lecastlevania/le-castle-vania-computer-club-the-messiah-one This song also marks perhaps my most adventurous take on any VGM track, too, with a lot of original material intertwined with my usual source-mangling ways. Hope you enjoy it! ------------- "Hey Deia, Was gonna contact you about a track you got in the "tp be judged" list. It's, "2012/03 - Mega Man 1 & 3 'Top This'" by Flexstyle. If it gets passed it'll need to go in the Projects listing (I just got it on BadAss Vol 2). Wasn't sure if this was the way to go about doing this, bit I figured I'd give it a go. The Joker"

  4. Hey guys, I thought you might like this remix, seeing that it doesn't really contain any "normal" elements of electronic music, and veers more towards an ethnic sound. Contact information ReMixer Name: Vlantis Real name: Joseph Jacobs Submission information Name of game arranged: ICO Name of arrangement: Because I have Horns Name of song arranged: Heal This song started off as a pretty straightforward remix, but it quickly escalated into something much bigger. It's a bit long at 7:37, but there's enough change-ups in there to keep things interesting. It starts off slow, but it gets pretty frantic before the end. Thanks for listening! Joe --------------
  5. Hello OCRemix Judges! Name: Garrett Oden Username: Hooblah2u2 User ID: 48370 Email Address: Ezio's Passion Game Arranged: Assassin's Creed 2 Name of Arrangement: Ezio's Passion Name of Original Song: Ezio's Family I've always thought the theme to Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood was wonderfully epic, so I decided to attempt to emulate it. I ended up adding some of my own and taking some out and then added the drums - my obvious weakness. All in all, I believe it came out better than expected - but that doesn't mean much coming from an inexperienced programmer. For Ezio's Passion to be featured on OCRemix would be an incredible feat, thus I am willing to alter the arrangement at all if necessary. However I understand if my skills do not reach an acceptable level yet. Thank you very much for your contributions to the video game and remix communities. --------------
  6. Checking out the updated file without hearing the original. There is some lower end clarity issues that I think need to be cleaned up more. I think Andrew is on the right track that the guitar is part of what is crowding things out, as well as just having a lot of instruments in the same range. Similarly, the piano needs to come out a little bit more at 1:29. It's clearer with headphones, but on speakers I had a tough time hearing the lead. There was a very slight but noticeable timing issue around :50-:53ish in the rhythm guitars. Just something to check out. Arrangement-wise I think this is fantastic, and I'd love for this to be on the site. I don't think the balance is where it needs to be yet, though, to allow all the parts the clarity they need. Hope you keep working at this. NO(resubmit, please!)
  7. Relistened to this, and I'm definitely hearing what the gentlemen are saying; maybe my volume was way high before, but this definitely is sounding very distant. Beefing up the drums as well would definitely improve this. Still enjoying the arrangement itself a lot, so fixing up those issues are worth it! NO (resubmit)
  8. This definitely has a very similar vibe to a few of your other subs, Puggsy in particular comes to mind. There's a few of the same flaws that I'm hearing as well. The drums still feel pretty basic and get pretty repetitive, even with some of the fills thrown in. Also brought up before are the sounds themselves, which are pretty generic, but I think you've done a better job finessing them this time around. Still not feeling everything, like the exposed synth at 2:10. There are also a couple of areas where you are just vamping on the chord structure that just feels a little too bland to me. In fact, the thing that's bugging me the most about this track is that the chord structure never changes throughout the whole piece. I know that the themes are working off of that, but it starts to really wear my ears out after a while, and some sort of deviation would really make a difference here. Nitpicking a lot of details that aren't dealbreakers on their own, but they add up. There's a lot of good going on too, the three themes you chose do have a good ability to fit together, and I found the section at 2:52 to be quite refreshing and new for you. The overall structure you have going on works, although I wouldn't mind a little more variety there as well. Hope you keep at this one, there's promise here. NO (resubmit)
  9. Hey Deia, Me again hehe. I just had a quick question. I have a mix that passed the panel (Yay) and was just wondering if it was possible for my name to be changed for whenever it gets posted. I submitted my Castlevania mix (Enough Time to Dance) under the alias Lidawg, but no longer use that name and would rather it was put under Magellanic. Anywho, if you don't deal with that kinda thing just point me to someone who does. Other than that, thank you for the 'yes' vote on my FFX mix. It encouraged me to give it another shot and I will soon be sending in a very sparkly new version of it for the panel, so thank you again -Liam
  10. Super fun sources! I like how you used the Bean theme as your main idea with some cameos thrown in, but I feel a little disappointed with how each of the themes are pretty much note-for-note without any personalization to really bring them to life. I think there's a lot more you can do with either expanding on a few of the themes instead of cramming a lot of them together. Maybe consider removing two of them and having variations play instead. The same can be said for the Bean Kingdom theme, which after the third return to it starts losing traction. More variety please! The ending feels very sudden as well, I would love for there to be a stronger transition into the ending. Production has some quirks as well. Firstly, a lot of the piece is fairly mechanical, and needs to be humanized to be more natural. I also feel like the balance is off, especially with the 'cameo' themes being very quiet compared to the main source lead. On a similar note, the overall volume level is the same throughout the piece and the lack of sonic variety makes it harder for me to stay focused. 1:11 could come way down in volume to change things up, and build back up later in the piece. Sticking with the same variety theme here, the drums feel like they are on autopilot for a lot of the piece. There is a lot to work on here, to be honest, but it almost all stems from the variety aspect. I do like your ABAC structure, and I think it can work, but you've gotta make sure things stay interesting throughout! NO (resubmit)

  12. Hello OCR! Submission Info: Game arranged: Donkey Kong Country Arrangement Title: Percussion Hijinx Song Arranged: Jungle Hijinx Description: During my university years, I was a member of the Acadia Percussion Ensemble, led by world percussion master Ken Shorley. As we were always taught and encouraged to explore and be creative, I had the perfect opportunity to arrange and play a piece from Donkey Kong Country, which has some of my favourite gaming tunes. I chose "Jungle Hijinx", which was the best-suited track for the 5-person ensemble. They really enjoyed playing it, and it ended up being the finale piece of our 2006 year-end concert. As this is a live recording from that concert, and everyone has moved on in life, this can't be re-recorded, so I can't do a re-submission if it doesn't pass. I thought it might be too close to the source material, but Emunator had the following to say: "The remix is really awesome and, although the mixing isn't quite as full as I'd hope for, since it was all a live performance I bet the judges would probably give it a bit of leeway on that front. The remix itself is really cool and I'd like to see it on the site, personally!" http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=30935&highlight=hijinx&page=2 And so... here it is! I picked Rolling Cradle simply because I really like the aggressive energy it conveys, and I wanted to give it an epic, orchestral flair. Admittedly, I took a risk by staying pretty much with the source, but it's with hope that the instrumentation will really help drive the track home with its sheer energy of aggression. Thanks for listening! --------------
  14. Contact Information ReMixer Name: SaBLeSoLDi3R Name: Mike Navarra Email Address: Website: http://www.facebook.com/ShAdOxViRuS Userid: 48694 Submission Information Game: Metroid (NES) Arrangement: Welcome Back Original Song: Kraid's Lair I've been working in FL Studio for about seven years now and submitting projects to Newgrounds under the name ShAdOxViRuS. Kraid's Lair was the first song that I started plugging into the software's piano roll when I first got it. In 2007, I submitted a remix called "Welcome to Kraid's". To date, it remains one of my most acclaimed remixes, with one of the top scores and more comments than the rest of my body of work combined. Since then, I've learned a lot about music production and discovered so many new techniques that I decided to give this remix another go with all of the expertise I've amassed over the years. I've been attempting "OCRemix-worthy" projects for quite some time, and this one is the top contender. The music for Kraid's lair, in my opinion, is one of the best video game songs ever written. The sheer simplicity of the percussion-less, two channel, 8-bit composition hid a very clever complexity that set the atmosphere for Kraid's lair perfectly. I tried to capture that by using the intro as a means to convey how brilliantly primitive the original song was, and then transition into something greater and more modernized. -----------
  15. Still seems to be accessible through his facebook link though... EDIT: It appears he (unsurprisingly) deleted and blocked me from commenting on his facebook post.
  16. OK, this may be one of the best integrations of two sources together without there being any noticeable transitions I've ever heard. Seriously, the move into Gerudo at 1:36 was seamless, and that's just one example. The arrangement worked really well for me on that aspect, and it was pretty awesome to listen to. Production has some aspects that I'm not a fan of, unfortunately. Firstly, that snare sounds downright terrible to me in headphones. It's not nearly as noticeable on speakers, but bleh! I'm also not digging the bell and chime samples, but that may be more personal taste. Aside from that, the sounds are fairly generic, but they work for the mix as is. Overall, still think this is easy YES territory, but if another J can confirm the snare, I'll hit you up for a change there. YES (conditional?)*changed below
  17. Really nothing to add to what Andrew already said here. You did a sweet job updating this, and the original soundtrack is pretty sweet to begin with. As it is, though, it's just not personalized enough to really call your own. I look forward to hearing further submissions from you or hopefully you can go back to this one and update it. There's some good stuff here! NO (resubmit)
  18. If anything, a touch repetitive. Cool outtro, would have liked more of it, in fact. YES
  19. I see you voting! Nice work!

  20. Oy, this is a tough one. I'm with Fishy that the issue is entirely based on the arrangement and how dominant it is VS. how much you can pull from a 13 second source and still be viable as an arrangement. I disagree with him in that I think the source usage is indeed there, and used in a lot of clever ways. I also will say that this will be one of those tracks that people will say they don't hear the source at all, because of how masked things are at times. I'm on the fence with this, but I do think it gets the job done in the end, but I won't be surprised if this does or doesn't make it in the end. Good luck! YES (borderline)
  21. So...you are compiling all these PMD mixes into an album at some point, right? Anyways, definitely agreed with Cain on the snare as well as the wubs feeling just a little off. I can also agree that it's in no way a deal breaker, and in a way adds your own flavor to the mix. The arrangement is definitely strongly recognizable, and also a new style for you that works really well for this source. I'm impressed! YES
  22. No DA gallery (yet), just works with my name :P

  23. Not too crazy about the particular sources, but I think you combined them well here, and overall the arrangement is nice. There were a couple times where things the flute felt a bit overpowered, but they are in no way dealbreakers. I'd also say the guitar could come down a tad, but otherwise, nice work! YES
