  1. Gotta say I'm that Larry really hit this one right. The opening definitely starts pretty hot, and needs to be adjusted a bit. I'd say overall there's a bit of clutter that could be cleaned up and reworked so the parts you really need to be clear are forefront, and some of the other parts can take the backseat a little more. I'm also going to echo that I don't hear a lick of Elec Man in here at all. Some clarification would be helpful. Aside from that, I'm down with the arrangement that's there; it's an eclectic mix that has some interesting parts to it. Not my personal favorite, but still a fun listen. Hit up those production fixes, please! NO (resubmit)
  2. Some pretty cool themes in here from a game that I haven't even remotely heard of. You pull off some nice playing chops at times, and overall the soundscape is pretty clean and well produced for sure. Talking with Andrew, he mentions that there isn't much of a bass presence here, which I think is the only real flaw that I'm hearing production-wise right now. As you mention yourself, this is a medley of pieces. The two things I noticed listening to this is that there aren't really any transitions, per se, you move directly from one source to the next. Surprisingly this works more often than not, but I would have liked a better lead in between some of the pieces. The other issue that sticks out even more so is that each piece is a cover, and even moreso is that it repeats each piece two to three times before moving on. If you're looking to fit OCR, those repeats need to go, and you've gotta add some variation or original stuff to really make the sources your own. It's still a fun listen, but not what we're looking for in mixes. I'd love to hear more from you, though, you've got some good chops! NO
  3. Ribbit! Guifrog here! Game is Phantasy Star IV. Source is Field Motavia ( ).Link to the mix: 1) or 2) Mix name: Inert (Will to Move) Hey! Time to go to CHINA! Right after a failed comeback (ahem last sub), I cooked this up. My last rejected mix inspired me to do this, as it describes my current situation, which is not only music related. I feel... inert. No matter what I do, where I go to, it looks like I've grown up, but after my 20s it always feels like I've never moved a pinch from the start position. For example, during this vacation, I took many different decisions in order to organize my actual (and future) life, learnt some cool things, but still, it's as if I kept staying still. Never took decisions, never learned a thing, nope. I'm still the same desoriented guy from before, feel no different emotions, sensations, gratifications and such. Odd. When I was younger, no matter how distant my goals for everything were, I always felt some adrelanin to keep walking on the most mysterious roads. Apparently, nowadays, my brain seems to want me to stop going through ways that I've never seen, so I can stay in my comfort zone. But damn, I'm so stubborn. All in all, and in the context of music, this mix is my try to dive more into World Music and less into Electronica, coz it's more familiar and comfortable to me. If it succeeds, that'll definitely mean something, but I'll keep wondering when/whether I should try going through deeper electronica or not, as I never seem to learn much from the feedback on it... Well, they say nothing's impossible, right? Which is why I kept doing mixes after 100 rejections until now. Related note: for those who still remember on the OCR Forums, I'm the guy who believes the rocks are sentient. LT EDIT: (8/23): Got an arrangement breakdown from Guilherme: Roger! I'm sorry I stopped doing that So again (in case of any trouble), source is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlRXQ8GPFl4 Breakdown off mah mix: 0:00-0:08 -> nothing. 0:08-0:26 -> corresponds to source first section, 0:02-0:19 (or 0:20-0:39, all da same anywayz). 0:27-0:48 -> same thing, but besides chord progression, melody's pretty heavily modified I guess 0:49-1:18 -> up to this part, more direct take on 0:02-0:19. 1:19-1:26 -> continuation of the previous, but just a bit more modified. 1:27-1:45 -> corresponds to source second section, 0:40-0:54 (or 0:55-1:11) 1:46-1:54 -> nothing to see here. 1:55-2:14 -> this one's a different, original chord progression I set for the Motavia Field melody to come afterwards. 2:15-2:22 -> here it is, from source first section. 2:23-2:33 -> even though this part's original writing 2:34-2:52 -> again, source first section. 2:53-3:01 -> same, played by the synth. 3:02-3:11 -> original writes. 3:12-3:30 -> same as previous, tried to make a bridge for the ending. 3:31-3:50 -> source second section, more focused on 0:55-1:11. 3:51-4:01 -> nothing, end. That's it!
  4. Hello to all the team from OC remix. As a new comer, I am not very familiar with how things go about submissions. However, I read the submission form and provided you with all the information I could provide. I hope this remix will meet your standards for I really would like to privide plenty more of the sort. Enjoy, Maël Your ReMixer name : OZ Your real name : Mael Your email address : mael.terol9@orange.fr Name of game(s) arranged : Icewind Dale Name of arrangement : Eastheaven almost in peace Name of individual song(s) arranged : Easthaven in peace Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc. I recreated the original tune without any midifile so the overall thing is not so faithful to the original and the purists might yell at me but on the whole I think it works. ---------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K7dfP3QlS4
  5. Hi! You just released the Wild ARMs album so you probably don't need ALL of the info. Brandon Strader www.bstrader.net 3123 The Biznut (real name Kaleb Penner) http://www.gpdj.ca/ 24256 Game: Wild ARMs Source: The Sky Is Being Torn Apart -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw1BsqSSsBw Remix title: Atmospheric Evisceration Music video: SOURCE BREAKDOWN OMG SOURCE BREAKDOWN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGJ53XjR6JA Seriously I made this source breakdown just for you judges, It should help identify the source usage! If this gets No'd or something please remove the link from the email. It's unlisted for a reason! ^o^ Write-up notes: I'm submitting this for two reasons: I loved making it back in late 2009 I think it was, maybe 2010, and love the song a lot. Secondly, because I think Wild ARMs fans deserve to hear the remix. Plus I owe it to The Biznut, as he did really brutal tortured yells which just need to be heard! It's the only song that survived my recent hard drive crash, I copied it over on a whim. That's all I really have to say about this mix, I loved it so much I revisited it in 2011-12 and made it sound modern. But I WOULD like to take this opportunity to dispel some inaccurate feelings about death metal and I would truly appreciate it if you could include this in the write-up. I got a comment on the music video on Facebook from my dad. He said, "What does 'Death Metal' mean to you? What satisfaction do you get in making music with 'tortured souls' moaning? I'm just wondering." I replied to that jokingly with this video: as I like to make jokes, but to actually ADDRESS the question I would like to state a few facts. I'm a devout Christian, as is Kaleb. Every song I make, I make to glorify God and I consider my music to be my "ministry" if it can be called that. I'm not always "in people's faces" about my faith and I don't write Christian lyrics for every song. But I also DON'T write Satanic lyrics, or political lyrics, etc. There was someone who reviewed my music probably 5 or more years ago who told me a C.S. Lewis quote which I am paraphrasing, "No, we don't need more Christian writers. We need more writers who are Christian." I've always remembered that quote and I've never limited myself to making simply "Christian music". So yes, to people listening to this, before you make the assumption -- and judge a book by its cover -- take those facts into consideration!Oh yeah, this remix is inspired by the style of Frederik Thordendaal's Special Defects, an album called Sol Niger Within. That's where all the vocal style / tortured yell hullabaloo came from.
  6. Pretty sweet source, definitely something I've never heard before, so it was cool to listen to it. You've got a fairly straight-forward take on the source, putting it into a trance/electronica setting here. While there's nothing wrong with doing that, what I'm noticing is that once you establish the theme, the song is on auto-pilot until the end. Overall you could add a lot more to this, either varying up the theme, dropping out and adding parts, and definitely adding some original melodies and sections of your own to help keep the interest flowing and keep things from getting repetitive. You've got a good establishment right now, but it needs more embellishments. Production is pretty clear, so you've got that going for you. I'd say this might be suffering from some overcompression, and might be a little heavy in the mid-ranges. I'd love to hear more sonic variety overall, and I would definitely appreciate more fills and some change-ups in the drum loops. Variety is what I'm really lacking here, to really set this apart from a standard trance edition of the song. You've got some work ahead of you, but you've also got a solid start. NO
  7. Remixer name: Rexy (real name: Beverley Wooff) OCRemix user ID: 7528 Remix info:- Remix title: "The Root of All Things" Games covered: Mega Man 2 / Mega Man 6 Songs covered: Wily's Castle Stage 1/2 (MM2), Plant Man's Stage (MM6) --- Okay, fokes. This'll be the last time I'll be shoving Plant Man into the submissions inbox... * Though this was my first entry into the Wily Castle Remix Gauntlet 2011, this however has ended up receiving the ridiculous honor of being my last submission from that contest. With everything I had learnt over the past 4 months, it would be appropriate that the revisions over the past few months would really push it further over the edge than the original contest submission. Anyway, round 2 of the gauntlet had the contestants paired with the infamous Wily Stage 1 from Mega Man 2, and while I saw it as a challenge to go by given the unstable availability of the team roster for the first three rounds (particularly Brandon's Skyrim break, lol), I gave it a go and see what could be done. How I interpreted the first half of the Skull Castle gauntlet in Mega Man 2 is that you're expected a lot of wind, altitude and movement through the air; the climb up to the rooftop, the fight against the dragon at the end of stage 1, turbines in stage 2, the vertical drop leading into that block chamber, and quite a lot of use of the transportation items just to get around. And Plant Man may have been seen as a delicate robot master, but he could take the more natural presences as opposed to the mechanical structures as a way to benefit within his movement. And I guess since the game shares the same pre-Wily-Stage music as Mega Man 9 (the source game for both of my teammates' robot masters), the MM2 castle is seen as significantly greener too, but that's probably another story. I had learnt a fair amount about my sample bank capabilities during the contest and during all the touching up afterwards, and all the people that were on hand to give in some help later on really managed to make the track jump out. OA, SuperiorX, DJ Mystix and WillRock provided a great chunk of initial feedback in regards to additional writing, and I still took Jason Covenant's equalisation tips (acquired in Round to heart as well. I feel that this version is a huge improvement since the initial WCRG entry, and is something that I feel really proud for in spite of all the mishaps that happened along the way. Again, a big thanks for DarkeSword for hosting the gauntlet and the various other Mega Man based competitions! And I happily await all feedback in regards to this, whichever way it will go Peace out, -Rexy- -------------- - Wilyhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTwXJ4bQA1U - Plant

  9. This is easily my favorite source tune of the entire PMD soundtrack(s). I may have cried at this part in the game too. >.> The idea behind this is simply fantastic, really loving what you're going for here, and I think it's got a lot of promise. That being said, I agree completely with what Drew and Wes have already said. Right now the the arrangement is suffering from being pretty repetitive, and it's further enhanced by the lack of soundscape change. I also agree with Wes that I'm OK with the instrumentation as-is if the arrangement were shorter, so you do have a couple of options going for you there. I'm also going to echo Wes about the timing issues; they are pretty minor, but they also would help if they were fixed up. Hope you fix this one up, even if I did want to be the first one to have a mix of this on the site NO (resubmit, please)
  10. Link Contact Information Your ReMixer name - CJthemusicdude Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged - Garfield: Caught in the act. (Genesis and PC). Name of arrangement - Free Range Feline Name of individual song(s) arranged - Cave Cat 3,000,000 B.C. part 2. Link to the original soundtrack (if it is not one of the sound archives already available on the site) - Your own comments about the mix, for example the inspiration behind it, how it was made, etc. - The "free" portion of the title stems from the fact that all of the synths/samples used in this mix are free ones. This mix is entirely composed of Synth1 instances and some free soundfonts and samples. I think the spaghetti western style is woefully under-represented so I hope to alleviate that somewhat.
  11. I'm on OA's side of things unfortunately. I think on a busier arrangement it might be less noticeable, but because of the more laid-back feel you have it's sticking out more. I'd also echo that the drums feel very static, and could use some change-ups to add more interest. I'd also like some more change-ups in the soundscape itself, as I found my ears getting tired of the same instruments going for most of the piece. More variety would really help bring the listener back in. Pretty fun track so far, but I think it needs a bit of a push to get over the bar. Keep at it! NO (resubmit)
  12. I think Andrew is on the right track for this. I'd also comment that a lot of the parts feel a bit coverish, although there is some personalization. I wouldn't mind some more original material added in here to help differentiate from the source, but I am also OK with the arrangement as is. The balance and sounscape in general are definitely the biggest issue here, where things feel too loud or overpowered, and don't feel treated well together. It's a lot of little fine tuning to get it right. I'd hit up the WIP forums to get some more feedback after some adjustments and hit us up again! NO (resubmit)
  13. Nice resub! Definitely addressed the issues well. I agree with Emu that things could actually come up a touch in volume, maybe a fix we can get before it gets posted? Regardless, the balance is much better with the drums, and I'm feelin' this. YES
  14. Definitely an improvement, although I still feel like the mixing isn't as balanced as it could be. Intonation is much improved on the vocals, so nice work on that. I'm down with giving this a nod. YES (borderline)
  15. I think Andrew's assessment is pretty accurate, although I would disagree with him on the lack of melody to really attach to, as I felt some of the melodies were pleasant to listen to. I will agree that this suffers from a lack of cohesion between the parts, and is too much of a medley for our standards. If there were stronger tie-ins between the different sources it would help, but the fades aren't helping, as OA also pointed out. The sounds aren't super realistic, but I think they are passable if the arrangement could be polished up more. It wouldn't hurt to finesse some of the instruments to sound more realistic. I'd also like to hear a stronger bass presence overall, as it's not really pulling it's weight as is. There is some strength in the arrangement and how it's treated, but the mix doesn't feel like a cohesive whole, and the transitions need to be improved for sure. NO (resubmit)
  16. Man, great way to start the season. Looking forward to it!
  17. There are some pretty awesome details and personalization points added to this. Overall I really enjoy most of the arrangement, although I wish that the Path of Repentance section had the same amount of arrangement as the rest of the track, as it feels a lot more coverish. The drums also add a lot of movement to the piece, which is also a nice addition, despite being a little bit loop-heavy. Production sounds good to my ears as well, the soundscape is nicely balanced and clear. Nice work. YES
  18. Gotta say, the intro still feels strange to me, like it wants to be jazzy, but it feels so square. Aside from that, I think there are a ton of improvements in the playing to make things more clear and have more variation overall. What it is coming down to, at this point, is the piano sample. I think it's better, but I still am not feeling like it's where it needs to be for a solo piece. Vinnie is pretty good at hitting on that specifically, so I hope he will have some advice for you to get it to where it needs to be. Hate to throw it back at you, but it's definitely closer to where it needs to be. NO (resub)
  19. Andrew did a good job explaining what's up with this track. There is some additional material you added to this, but overall it feels pretty conservative and there isn't much to substantially make it hold interest throughout the track. It serves pretty great as a backing, which stems from the uninteresting original. Adding something more substantial to the arrangement would definitely help here. You've got the production chops down, which a lot of people feel is the hard part, so I look forward to you either augmenting this track or submitting something that derives from a more interesting source. NO (resubmit)
  20. I relistened to this one, and I'm going to have to agree with the gentlemen above about the production aspects, especially in terms of the reverb and the bleeding of instruments. While I do think it's still pretty borderline, I think having you touch it up will be an improvement on all fronts. Rather than have this one sit for a long time, I'm going to change my vote and get it back to you sooner! NO (please resubmit!)
  21. Despite Larry's whining, I can hear the elecman theme at 1:51 in the bells. That being aside from the point, I do have to agree with the NO side of things that the production is not very clear, and the synths are definitely too piercing. I am ok with the arrangement as is, although I'm not crazy about it myself. I do hope you fix this one up! NO (resubmit)
  22. Mr. Wheeler () has hit most of the strong points that need to be addressed here. I'll echo the issue about the bleed between instruments in some of the heavier sections, making a sort of wall of sound that is somewhat indistinct especially. I would also comment that some of the liberal sections do feel very liberal, but you have a lot of anchoring points that work well at keeping the source balanced with the more liberal sections, so things work out there. You've got a neat concept here, but the execution is what needs to be addressed. NO (resubmit)
  23. Andrew hit all the key points here. The samples are at a level that isn't quite there, but I agree that they can be finessed to work. Fixing up the sequencing will be a grat first start, and taking his advice as well as hitting the WIP forums to get some more could be the nudge you need to get this over the edge. Good luck! NO (resubmit)
  24. Resub 1 ReMixer name: Jewbei Real name: James Joyner Website: http://www.facebook.com/Jewbei **This remix was done for the Maverick Rising project. when the project goes live i would like for this to be posted** First I will like to take a moment out to thank bLiNd & Jade for being so hard on me in helping me to unleash my true skill I really needed it. y'all are like my guardian angels or something . It took nearly 2 years but i finally got everything down pact without you guys i dunno what the hell would've happened. This track was influenced by bLiNd's Jade Catacombs & iio- Rapture (Armin Van Buuren's Remix) I took what I like from those tracks and combined it with my own style I didnt really expect for it to come out sounding very uplifting but im happy that I was able to pull something like this off. Before my mix Pretension was ever posted I use to doubt my abilities as a Trance Producer and I was very intimidated by OCR's standards but now I know everything will be fine from this day forward. Expect to hear more from me! And be on the lookout for my Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 Remix. Until next time.....Peace! Source:
