  1. Hello! I would like to submit my remix "Thunderbird" for consideration to the Judges' Panel! You can find the song and its original here: Here is all the pertinent information for the remix: Song Title: Thunderbird ReMixer Name: Chris Apple Original Game: Mega Man X Songs Remixed: Storm Eagle Stage I was messing around on the guitar when I accidentally discovered the intro riff to this remix. After that, it was all over. I knew this song *had* to be made. It was stuck in my head from the first moment. It sounded so sassy when swung, it lent itself completely to the blues. While I started out with traditional blues leads and sounds, it didn't quite have the character I was looking for. I found myself drawn to modern metal and rock guitar effects to get extra gain and texture (after all, Mega Man has taught us that Rock and Blues are brothers!) I wanted the drums to hit hard like John Bonham, the guitars to squelch and squeal in the best traditions of rock, and a sassy lead full of attitude. A totally electrified sound that was unmistakably blue. For best results, crank it! Thank you for listening! Chris Apple ------------ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sayGb0MMS_k
  2. First Submission *RESUB* Name: Arceace Real name: Ben Clifton Email address: jugglemon312@yahoo.com Game: Sonic 3D Blast (Sega Genesis version) Title: Enigmatic Melody Original track: Rusty Ruin Link: Personally, I am glad that my first submission was rejected. I have spent a lot of time adding more depth to this arrangement, and I find that I like this version a lot more than the previous one. I didn’t change much arrangement-wise, but I added more layers to give it more sound. I have also upgraded from lousy computer speakers to okay quality headphones so I was able to make it more detailed. I hope that this is fun to listen to, I know I had fun making it. Thank you for your time and consideration. Arceace
  3. Your ReMixer name - Anti-Syne Your real name - Jack Lewis Your email address - jack_lewis13@hotmail.com Your userid - 31863 Name of game arranged - Final Fantasy Name of arrangement - There's a Town in My Pocket! Name of individual song arranged - Town Theme I've had this track kicking around for a while, it was originally intended to be a bit of a fun experiment, but seeing as it was pretty well received in the workshop and I haven't submitted anything for a bit I thought why not? Everything in this track was made using a Korg Ds-10 (Korgs synthesiser/sequencer on a DS cartridge) and a Korg Monotron (one of these things: ).Yes this would have been a lot easier to make (not to mention would probably have sounded better) if I had used a full on DAW, but, it was honestly way more fun to make than any of my other submissions so far (making a whole drum machine from scratch using subtractive synthesis was especially enjoyable) and I seriously urge everyone else to use whatever gadgets they have lying around to make a pocket track yourselves. Enjoy my micro experiment! Jack ------------
  4. Andrew's pretty much nailed this. The arrangement itself is pretty good, and a lot of the time the song just flirts with the melody, but it's still there and solidly presented. On the other hand, there are some moments that the song feels so stiff, it's really taking away from the feel. The piano is the biggest offender, but there are a couple of synths that are guilty as well. A little more nitpicky, but some of the end sections felt a little overcrowded, and some slight adjustments might make the listening more focused as well. Pretty close, NO (resubmit)
  5. Already been asked, already been answered. The person who's mix it is knows why there's a wait. It's cool.
  6. Going to have to agree with Andrew on this one; this feels like it's missing a big melodic element overall. I know a lot of the source is similar, but the source uses the organ chords more forefront as a melodic element, and later on there is the guitar soloing as well. Overall super great mood, and I don't mind the quote, but I'd like more. NO (resubmit, please)
  7. I'm on the fence with this one. I agree with Andrew on the compression, but I'm not hearing the other issue he mentions. To me, if the compression were fixed up, great, but I think I'm happy with the arrangement and production enough to give this a nod. YES
  8. So, I've heard this one quite a few times. Lots of good stuff going on here. I like how you've taken the original source and really meaned it up, while also spicing it up. I will say that there are a couple nitpicks, like the bass could be a little firmer, and the leads could have a little more presence, but I think this still gets the job done. YES
  9. Man, this arrangement is pretty sick! Love what you've done here. Going to nitpick a little. The flute feels a little piercing at the beginning, and could be brought down a smidgen. That and the ending, as mentioned. Other than that, this is a pretty awesome and unique take on a track that's been done pretty often. Hope to hear more from you, YES (conditional)
  10. I'm going to definitely agree that the synths just aren't doing it for me. I think either working on them to get them to gel a little more or just flat out replacing some of them would do a lot to help the track fit together better. I'd also like to see a little more humanization on the piano, it feels stiff at times. The arrangement overall is pretty good, although towards the end I'd wished that the main riff had been altered to be a little. Fix that production! NO (resubmit)
  11. Not much to add to what Andrew said. This is a super fun, quirky arrangement, and it fits the style of the really well. I think some of the louder areas are a bit out of balance between instruments, and it would be great to see some of that fixed up, but other than that, nice work. YES
  12. I'm somewhere in between the two gentlemen. I think it's recognizable as a medley, and I do wish there was more to tie the beginning in with the end, but I also think that the overall groove of the song is a pretty good factor that keeps things going here. Maybe a recap of one of the first two songs would help a bit (for me at least)? I'd also like to hear some kind of change-up in terms of instrumentation, there's no real time for your ears to get a rest of the same instruments and very similar synths throughout. There are some areas that also feel a little stiff overall, which I think you could go back and clean up. It's a nitpick, but I know you can improve it! NO (resubmit)
  13. I mostly panelled this one due to the possible source usage thing. Aside from that, the arrangement is solid, and the playing as well. Nice work. YES
  14. Going to agree with the gentleman. It's an interesting approach, but right now there's very little focus on the sources itself, and when they are there, they tend to be a bit on the more conservative side. NO
  15. Going to agree with Andrew on this, there's just parts that are too sloppy for this to go through. Arrangement is fun, and production's not bad. 1:36 feels a little unbalanced as well, the synth is way too loud over those bells (or whatever that synth is). NO (resubmit)
  16. I think the arrangement is pretty sick overall. This track overall is a lot of fun to listen to, and I love the temple feeling that you retained throughout from the original. As Andrew said, the drumwork is definitely a highlight of the track. If I were to nitpick, I would say that the arrangement can feel a bit repetitive towards the end. There is certainly some strong compression going on, and in the future you might want to keep that in mind to keep it balanced. Looking forward to more from you! YES

  18. I love the epic intro, and overall I'm a sucker for epic anything, so you're on a good track with me. Overall, I will have to say that I don't think the Ice Cap theme works as well as you'd like in this style; it's just not conveying that sense of strong emotion. Could just be me, and it's not as though it's completely out of place either. Everything is arranged well, and the counter-melodies and percussion are nice to listen to. I'm agreeing with Andrew pretty much on everything, except I'm a lot more bugged by the vocals stuff going out of key. It's especially apparent in the first vocal line that comes in, and I think it really pulls the track down. I think if it came down to it I could go either way, but for now I'd like a conditional on the vox. YES (conditional on vocals)
  19. This is pretty cool. Haven't heard the original, but I'm glad to hear this! Arrangement is good, and the incorporation of the two sources is definitely there. If I had to nitpick, I'd say the lead guitar feels just a little too upfront, but it's in no way a deal breaker. I dig. YES
  20. CONTACT INFO ReMixer name: Will T. Real name: Will Tinoco Email address: SUBMISSION INFO Name of game(s) arranged: Super Mario 64 Name of arrangement: 'The Last Dance' Name of individual song(s) arranged: 'Staff Roll' Creator comments: In the summer of 2010, as part of my since-completed Associate's degree in MIDI Production, I took a course in which I worked in the school's on-campus recording studio, recording and producing tracks for local music groups. One of those groups recorded a jazz waltz piece, which stuck in my head for the rest of the day (no one else did anything close to that style, I promise you that...). It quickly morphed in my mind into a very similarly-styled version of Super Mario 64's "Staff Roll" track, one of my all-time favorite pieces. I knew I had to write it down. About a month later I took a family trip to Orlando, FL (tip: Never go to FL in July/August, it is not possible to survive in that weather). In the evenings after days spent at theme parks I would work on this arrangement. By the end of our two weeks I had the whole thing finished notation-wise. It sat dormant, however, until earlier this year, when I rediscovered the files and started tweaking. What you hear now is the end result, after over 12 months from first conception. To this day this piece remains very closely tied to the good memories of that FL trip. For that reason, I feel a real emotional attachment to this one that I hope conveys in the final product. -- Thanks, - Will Tinoco -------------
  21. Hai Brandon Strader www.bstrader.net 3123 Game: Castlevania Source; Vampire Killer Remix Title: Vampire's Kiss Vampire Variations project Notes: Hi. I signed on for Vampire Killer with Chernabogue's Castlevania project, Vampire Variations. I knew it was a popular theme and had been remixed like more than 3 times so I wanted to try to do it in a way that hasn't been done before. My choice was to do it as black metals, very much in the vein of my own black metal project "In Staid Grace" which includes orchestration, black metals, and a nice acoustic break. The concept behind the remix was to pay tribute to Castlevania and also Vampire's Kiss, possibly my favorite Nicolas Cage movie of all time. Also Dracula X was called Vampire's Kiss, in like, Europe or something. I highly recommend seeing that movie at least once, and also play Castlevania. Cause it's a game. The Vampire's Kiss tribute takes the form of many soundbites from the movie which are placed and edited to fit in specific parts of the song. As for my overall take on Vampire Killer, I really like it I think it's the birthdays wurtha gud, and I feel that subbing it to OCR is a risk but one I am willing to take. This is nowhere near as traditional and legitimate as Harjawaldar's I den Svarte Skogen which I felt captured the essence of black metal completely in every regard, really a perfect mix. Harjawaldar is an incredible musician. Here's the mix I'm talking about: When I heard that Vampire Variations wasn't hitting OCR, I did take a few steps to make this mix more true to the genre, mostly lowering the bass guitar, adding more click to the kickdrum, and making the high end more crispy as a whole. Also the reverby atmospheric guitar lead at the beginning, very blackmetal-esque. I'm subbing this to OCR cause I figure there's a 50/50 chance it could make it on there, even with being only partially commercialized black metal. Commercial black metal is an oxy moron anyway. The genre really isn't meant to be all that appealing, especially not to the masses, though the scene is trendy as heck.... I love making black metals but the flashy garb and makeup isn't for me.Fun fact: No major chords are present in the song. Fun fact: This is my first black metal submission since "Blak Metal Chocobo" in 2005 which actually wasn't black metal at all, nor was it really a remix. I was a noob back then and I still feel guilty for it haha. I will somehow make it up to Larry someday for making him sift through the entire ff5 soundtrack. Soundbites: "This part I don't know if this really happened or I dreamt it later, or wha- I mean I'm fighting this bat off all alone, and I'll be damned if I didn't get really... turned on." "You know, I was in Mortal Kombat with a fucking bat, give me a break!" "Aaaaahhhh! (death scream)" "I'm a vampire, kill me! Kill me!" "Vampire, you idiot, Nosferatu!" "Christ! The tortures of the daaamned!" "I'm a vampire! I can prove it!" "I guess I was... pretty horny. I was drunk too. That was it. I had a little to drink. I was a little drunk. Plus I was horny." "Don't rape me... / Rape you? I will!" *bat screech* "Boo HOO! Boo HOO!" "Hey... hey.. I'm a vampire, a real vampire!" "I'm a vampire! I'm a vampire! I'm a vampire! I'm a vampire! I'm a vampire!" "Go ahead! Kill me!" "Well, the fact is I did murder someone last night. I turned into a vampire, it's a long story... / Goodness!" Lyrics: 3:26 - Ohh, Ohh, Ohh, Ohh, Ohh, Ohh, Ohh, Ohh, Oooooohh

This is my fifth submission, although it's actually a resubmission of my Prelude track (which was my first submission). Please note that this track is now a part of the Final Fantasy IX Project Album, since Fishy was kind enough to accept it after I'd modified it to a less conservative state. The structure is still the same. I didn't want to tamper with it, because I think The Final Fantasy Prelude is perfect the way it is. I just couldn't force myself to change the chord progression. Nothing sounds as pure as the original. However, I've added more percussion and more instruments and tried to make the song sound fresh and crisp. I also tried to keep the judges' feedback on the first version in mind--i.e. make sure the song ramps up more, adjust the choir volume etc. All in all, I'm pretty proud of this track, and it's still my favorite among my arrangements. Here's the link to the mp3: Archangel - Prelude to Fantasy (Final Fantasy Cover - New Version) Regards J.

Reactions in the forum were mixed if it would pass for the originality part as it's following the chord progression somewhat close and I quote a lot but on te other hand it's heavily mixed with original ideas. We'll see if it passes
