  1. I've only heard this version, so this is all new to me. I think right off I'm noticing what both the gentlemen above are saying. The sounds overall are pretty warm, and overall it sounds pretty clean, though there is a bit of muddiness in the more busy sections. I also feel like the drums feel a little on the weak side overall, with the kick specifically needing a bit of a boost. That might be a product of the bass being a little on the strong side and the lead being a little on the weak side, as well. Listening in a vacuum, I do agree that there's a lot of the same sounds throughout the track that don't change up much. I would have loved some more variety in both the instrumental changes as well as the backing section to break things up a bit more. If I were to describe the track as-is, I would say it's a lot of noodley guitar. A little more direction in the arrangement might focus things as well. I think this is close, but with both the levels and the arrangement needing a little boost it's not quite there yet. If the arrangement stayed as-is I think I'd still be good to pass it if the production side gets fixed up, but I would love to hear some touch ups to both! NO (resubmit)
  2. I think this is pretty close, although in the end I do agree with MW here. I like the grittiness of the track, but I think it gets to be too much grit when multiple instruments that are gritty are combining. The arrangement overall is pretty fun as well, though I agree it can get repetitive. I think, though, that if there weren't other elements bringing this down the arrangement would be OK in the long run. A more definitive ending would help, though. The biggest element to me is toning down (not completely removing) the grittiness, especially in the busier sections. Hope to hear this again! NO (resubmit)
  3. MW is right that the organ does tend to take over at times, though I didn't find it as much of an issue in the long run. The track has a lot of energy, and I enjoyed the overall instrumentation here. I do feel like the section in the later part of the first minute into the second felt a little bit like there was too much vamping without much direction, and I'm also agreeing with MW that 3:29 sounds a little strange with the slow hits on the steel drums, and some of the note choices don't sound very complimentary. A small section, but worth pointing out. Overall I think the arrangement fits really well compared to the source and there's a lot going on that keeps things moving and energetic. The sections pointed out aren't the worst, but definitely do bring the track down a bit, though I think this still is over the bar as-is. Nice work! YES
  4. This is definitely sounding quick clean and the parts are all coming through nice and clear. Nice work on cleaning that up. While I do think the intro of the track takes a bit long to get into the source material, I wasn't finding issue in regards to the source usage otherwise. Glad you sent this back in! YES
  5. Previous decision Hello again, OCRemix! This is a resubmission of Moonlight Dance, a trance/house styled remix of the song "Powell" from the game Seiken Densetsu 3. I've updated the track, following your feedback after it was initially rejected by the judges panel. Now, the problematic parts should be gone. As you suggested, I've cleaned up the mix so instruments at 2:00 don't fight for your attention and gave more presence to the lead at 4:00. Hopefully it's all good now! The 192kbps .mp3 is also attached to this e-mail. ------------------------------
  6. Yeah, this is a tough judge track. I can see both sides of the fence here, and I think taking into light the genre change and the intent of the track to be a bit floaty and calm surfer rock that the static arrangement, while not entirely ideal, does work here for me. I can totally see both sides, but I'm good to give this one a go. YES (borderline)
  7. Definitely an interesting take on the original here. The opening starts out pretty triumphantly, and there is a mix of emotions throughout as the track progresses. The main motif is definitely the highlight here, being playing and altered throughout, and juggled between the various instruments. There's a lot of techniques I recognize from various orchestral pieces I've heard throughout college, which is pretty neat to hear being applied here. There's quite a lot going on at time, and I do feel like the track gets a little bit cluttered sometimes, through I didn't find it to be a dealbreaker as the main parts are still legible even when the orchestra is going full bore. There is some noticeable clipping happening at 0:29-0:31, 1:17, 1:29-1:35, 1:51-1:53, 2:57-2:59, and 3:40-3:41, which is almost odd as it's one of the quieter sections. There is some other clipping, but it's not as noticeable. I do think this should get fixed up as it's detracting overall. Really hope you can address this and get back to us! NO (resubmit)
  8. Hello, I've already submitted a Dark Souls remix before but I do it again with an orchestral work this time. Maybe, I like this games too much ! The history of Gundyr is so sad, he's waiting for an unkindled to kill him and finish his quest, I try to illustrate it and pay tribute to him. So it goes from light to darkness, with an orchestra that simplifies itself for a more powerfull reading of the theme, something heroic, not in a negative way. 9. Mauricio says that he had a hard time fitting this into his style, but I'm going to disagree there. This has a ton of determination, and the energy is solid throughout. Solid guitars, great rhythm section, the arrangement is solid. There are a couple of sections that sound a little muddy on headphones, but I didn't find them to be a dealbreaker and they aren't as much of an issue on speakers. YES

I had been working on it since then at some point, there was basically only polishing to be done. I had lots of it in mind, but thankfully Brad's enthusiastic response to the track made me realize it was already close to good enough. That final stretch to good enough did take plenty of effort though! The Lizard Dance is a pretty cool one-chord jam.. I added a little bit more bass movement in this arrangement. There's also the bit where I've taken two lines and separated their tempo, cutting the other in half and other in 1/4, and bringing it up in steps.. the harmony ended up not matching so well anymore, so there was some tweaking there. Overall I remember wanting to experiment with chip sounds over rock drums back then, and that's what all the sounds are here, simple wave forms apart from the drums. There are a couple of cameos from other games, one from Wonder Boy in Monster Land - the final dungeon music, and one from the Syreen theme in Star Control 2. The background instruments (left and right panned) play them during verses, especially prominent during the second one. A huge thanks to Brad for directing the project and cheering this one to the finish line!

  15. It's not from AOCC this time. And it's not a Mana series mix either. New things. Been fiddling with this stupid hing since 2012, and am tired of it. Had a lot of fun with the bass. Not happy with its sound. But it's old, so I don't care enough to do anything about it. Might as well sub it now, cuz it's not gettin' any better. Also, it's summer, so it's topical. Tropical. Something. Less than 48% source without counting chords and chord-derived stuff. Unless I forgot to count something. Along with Commander Keen, Battle Chess and Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island is one of the first games I can remember playing. My cousins had it, brought their computer to our family's summer place one summer, and I couldn't get enough. Not that I even understood English at that point. But any step forward in any puzzle was a success, no matter what it actually did for the story or the game. A few of the melodies stuck with me for at least a decade, when I played the game again. At that point, I could appreciate the game's writing, too. Anyway, there's a bit of my gaming history. mix: wav in folder: "Late in the Caribbean" game: The Secret of Monkey Island source: Opening -rozo -------------------------------- (Note just the Opening not the introduction)
  16. Great energy, and despite the volume of things going on everything sounds pretty clear to me. I think there is potential that this might be a DP, but I'd like to get another J opinion first. My one real qualm is the repetitiveness of the structure of the track, but that is present in the original, so I'm not really finding fault there. Solos are tasteful and energetic, they fit the source really well and don't overstep their bounds. There's one synth near the end that has what I assume is the lead, but it's nearly fully buried in the track. I didn't hear it until my second time through. Might be worth getting a fix on that, but even if the track went up as-is I think it would be fine. Nice work, great energy! YES

I liked it back when that trailer was released, but after hearing it in the context of the game, I was blown away. I knew I had to cover it somehow, and only two days after the game was out I ended up with this remix. My remix is a metal (power metal?) rendition of the original dnb tune. Since the source is so damn great, I stayed pretty close to it other than the genre shift and a guitar solo, but I don't think that's a dealbreaker. Hope you enjoy it!
  18. Solid mix, love the glitching here. Energy is strong and consistent without getting overdone. Nice work, bro! YES
  19. Again, super sweet track and a great arrangement here. The brass playing is on point. I have the same issue with the panning as the other track you submitted, though this one is overall better due to there being a lot of soloing with the guitar being center here. I will also point out that this track is a little bit crowded at times, though I wouldn't call it a dealbreaker in the end. I hope to hear some more arrangements from you, the energy and creativity is great here! YES (borderline)
  20. This is pretty sick, playing is casual and fun, the arrangement is on point. The ONLY problem I have is the hard panning on the instruments. It definitely sounds a little weird on headphones due to it. I'm cool with giving this a pass, but it might be worth to go conditional to see if we can soften that up a bit. Let's see what the other J's think. YES (conditional on panning?)
  21. The arrangement is lovely here, and the subtle use of dynamics is pretty great. To me this comes down to the piano sound, which I think is decent, though definitely not realistic, and the performance itself. Right now to me the track sounds a bit too mechanical; the runs sound too perfect, and there are sections that just feel a little blocky. I'd love to hear some subtle rubato/humanization on the timing of the hits to add that human edge. It's a tough track because it's solo piano which makes the small things stand out more, I am definitely curious what the others say. NO (borderline, resubmit)

This is piano arrangement based on two major themes of ff10. "Daughter of the Summoner" and "Someday the Dream Will End" give to these melodies their saddest version. "Daughter of the summoner" really impressed me when I discovered the game! N. Uematsu managed to put a lot emotion by the simplicity and the purity of this music. "Someday the Dream Will End" shrines by its unforgettable melody, really well integrated in the game. I've this idea of arrangement a long time ago, based uniquely on "Daughter of the Summoner". This arrangement came naturally on the first part (before 1'15). But I was blocked for the following. So I decided to integrate the other source to get something reliable enough. These two melodies yet well married in the love song "Suteki Da Ne". This arrangement marry also these themes, but in their sad version (so I pointed only "Daughter of the Summoner" and "Someday the Dream will End" as sources). I hope the result is melancholic enough Breakdown : Daughter of the Summoner 0'00: intro 0'12: Melodic Line 1 1'20: ML2 Someday the dream will end 0'00: ML3 0'24: ML4 1'05: ML5 (similar to ML1) Arrangement 0'00: from intro of daughter of the summoner: repeated high notes imitating the xylo. Arpeggio by left hand start a little after 0'28: ML1 with arpeggio 1'07: ML2 soft 1'18: ML3 Ternary rhythm for left hand. Hesitating tempo 1'33: ML4 Still in ternary. Louder, more animated. The culminating point of the arrangement! 2'00: ML5/ML1 soft part, to contrast with the precedent one. High arpeggio 2'18: ML2 with rhythm well marked, louder 2'48: outro. Similar to intro, but softer.
  23. This is pretty great. The beefy bassline really brings the track to life, and the Daft Punk feel that comes in every so often adds a lot of flavor to the track. Plenty of source throughout, and while things do get a little repetitive towards the end, I felt there was enough changeups that it didn't turn into a dealbreaker. My nitpick comes from the entrance of the track, and the riser used about halfway through. It completely overpowers the track with a lot of white noise. I like the idea of it, but it just feels too strong as-is. That being said, those two sections are pretty small in the long run and I bet in a big dance crowd they would sound fine. Solid work, hope to hear more from you soon. YES
  24. There's a lot of good aspects to the mix here. Overall the sound upgrades are pretty solid, and the treatment of the overall mix is pretty good. There are a couple sections where there is a lot going on and fighting for control, like 1:18 and later at 1:29. Alone I wouldn't call it a dealbreaker, but it is worth mentioning. My big issue at the moment is that the track follows pretty close to the original in both structure as well as melodically. There are some personalization details and additions here and there that are a great help, but overall I think this is riding too close to the source for us. Some extra original writing, possibly a solo, would make a big difference here. The track also runs a little bit short, and I think you could expand the mix a little. The ending feels abrupt. The idea you have of the guitar riff to the end is solid, but the execution makes it feel like the track wasn't meant to end there. A stronger lead up into the ending would make it feel more natural. I think you're on the right track here, and a lot of the work sounds really good, but it's a bit too close for our arrangement standards and a little underdeveloped. Curious what the other judges will say. NO (resubmit)
