Original Decision: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=34408&highlight=knight_of_the_round Title: The Power of Cornelia Game: Final Fantasy Song: Cornelia Castle Original Composer: Nobuo Uematsu Remixer: Knight_of_the_Round Real name: Justin Taylor Link to submission: PROJECT TRACK! Here if my re-submission for my Cornelia Castle remix for Brandon Strader's Final Fantasy: Random Encounter album. I basically re-mixed the entire song and added more source to the solo and I removed as much "non-source" as I could, and I think it sounds a LOT better. Hopefully you guys do too. The song is done in the style of power metal with a few poly-rhythms thrown in for good measure. All guitars were recorded with an Agile 8 string into a ENGL Fireball head through a VHT Fatbottom cabinet. Bass was recorded direct through Line6 PODFarm. Drums were programmed via SD 2.0 through Sony Acid, then the snare and kick were replaced with Steven Slate Trigger. Enjoy! ----------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBLwMvfkG9s

Remixer Name: TheGuitahHeroe Game: Mega Man II Sources: Bubble Man Stage ( )and Heat Man Stage ( ) (as ifyou need these ) Remix Name: "The Tragic Drowning of Heat Man" So this was my Round 3 remix for this year's Grand Robot Master Remix Battle, headed by Darkesword. In this round I was pitted against Sir_NutS; unfortunately he didn't have enough free time to fully complete his mix (which featured really unique vocals by Mae). This mix was pretty heavily inspired by Deadmau5 and Pendulum's "The Island." There's even a chord progression in there which is very similar to that of the verse progression of "The Island." There's not really that much to say about the mix lol, so I'll conclude this subscription email with a quote describing the feel of the mix from easily the best spoken voter of the GRMRB, Helios42: "1:02 - 1:07 was great buildup with Heat Man. 1:48 - 2:18 had an epic, lively beat as heat man 'swam' aka fight back against his fate, but then he started to sink. 2:35 was a great re-entry of heat man, and pretty tragic feeling with the bubble man follow up from 2:48 until the end." The name itself was more of an afterthought (it was originally named "Heat Man's Bubble Bath", lol). Alright, that's it from me. Hope you guys dig!

Thanks for pausing this judgment, in light of the recent evaluation, and stuff like that. Original judgment: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=33556 Requiem for a Dying World (Final Fantasy 1 album) New write-up: Chernabogue says: "Brandon started the FFIX project, but it was then directed by Fishy (that's what I read). He decided to make a heavy metal album to cover FF1 and I joined it, though I was not as good as other metalheads involved in the project. I first wanted to do 'Victory Fanfare', but it was already claimed by NintenJoe, so I decided to do 'Dead Music'. The source is simple but very effective. An organ/guitar duet was pretty obvious to do. I did the arrangement and Brandon recorded the guitars and bass for the track." Brandon says: "I had originally made a mellotron-heavy version of this and the mellotron sounds in general seemed to be pretty unpopular with the panel for their mechanicalness, so now this version has lush LA Scoring Strings in it, some EWQL Choir and Alicia's Keys. All of the guitars and bass were re-recorded, and I loaded up my more modernly customized drum preset. I had to re-record some of the key parts to make them sound more natural as a violin. Tweaked the EQ on everything so it slides together like pb&j on bread. It was both an honor and a privilege to work with Chernabogue, would do it again in a heartbeat." --------------------

Original Artist: Kazumi Totaka Comments: I started on this mix nearly two years ago(after pitching the idea in this thread: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=25085). After zircon gave me the OK, I went ahead and began production. Instead of doing a huge reworking of the source, I went with a minimalist approach, retaining the whimsical style and mood of the original melody while taking it on a bizarre journey. After about a month or two, I abandoned it for nearly two years, but picked it up again recently, touched it up, and brought it to where it is now. I was reluctant to submit it initially because it was an experiment, and naturally, I wasn't sure if it would make it through the panel. I'm testing the waters now! ------------------

The track is meant to be a satire piece that emulates some of the more awful forms of music that have appeared in popular music recently. Some of the referenced works have been crunkcore by Brokencyde, dance-metalcore by Attack Attack (crabcore), and Linkin Park. This song is pretty offensive but I enjoy stirring the pot a bit. Lyrics: YOOOO mothafuckin DOD, VGMIX CRUNK I walk the world and I strut, you know that I have got it, the sexy moves that kill, girls suck on my balls all night. You try to emulate me, but you can't ever do it. I have realised that most of the versions I had listened to had 1 thing in common, the structure. The instrumentation might change or something might get put in the middle of the work, but to my knowledge there hasn't been a complete rework of OWA outside of Crisis Core. This is what I wanted to change if I was actually going to try and arrange the tune. While writing the opening section I kept on thinking "Liberi Fatali would work great here" and eventually came into the piece. ------------------------ - OWA - LF

Hi dear Judges, I hope I don't sumbit too much mixes these days This one is from my Vampire Variations project, and as I'd like to release it through OCR, maybe you should consider it as a project track. Contact Information Your ReMixer name: Chernabogue Your real name: Alexandre Mourey Your email address: chernabogue@gmail.com Your website: http://www.fflproduction.fr Your userid: 20943 Submission Information Name of game(s) arranged: Castlevania (NES) Name of arrangement: "Underworld Pulse" Name of individual song(s) arranged: "Underground" (I'm pretty sure this one was only in the Japanese version of the game), plus a bit of "Walking on the Edge" Additional information about game including composer, system, etc.: Kinuyo Yamashita // NES/Famicon Link to the original soundtrack: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=An3g-qD2bPA Your own comments about the mix: I decided to arrange "Underground" because the rest of the album was already claimed. The track is very repetitive, so I included a bit of "Walking on the Edge", my favorite track from the classic soundtrack. Last year, during the Grand Maverick ReMix Battle, I arranged Duff McWhalen (yes, I call him/it like that, sorry DarkeSword!) in a percussion-only way (and got eliminated by neblix during the first round, sigh). However, I used all the feedback to make another track, in the very same way and that's how "Underworld Pulse" was born. LINK to arrangement: MediaFire I hope everything's okay! I don't think this one will pass the panel, but feedback will help me a lot. Cheers from France! -Alex

DragonAvenger replied to OceansAndrew's topic in Judges Decisions
I like it, definitely improved all around. Glad you revisited this one. YES -
Right away I like that you're playing a lot of the instruments. I like that there's a live feel from it. Overall, however, this is a nice cover, but it doesn't have the level of interpretation and arrangement we're looking for. The drums could use more variation at times, although there are some good fills in the song. NO (resubmit)

*NO* Mega Man 9 & 5 'Lady in the Water'
DragonAvenger replied to OceansAndrew's topic in Judges Decisions
Going to have to agree with Andrew. Once the original ideas are presented, it feels like the track doesn't develop any more. I'm hearing a lot of very similar/same sections throughout, when I know you can do more in terms of varying this up. The ideas you have are fun and creative, just not enough! NO (resubmit) -

Website: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Izkemia/54943087704 Userid: 31942 Name of game arranged: Final Fantasy 1 (FF1 Brandon Strader's project) Name of arrangement: Dance of Descent Name of individual songs arranged: Underwater palace, Gurgu volcano, Chaos temple, Menu screen, Ending theme, City theme, Opening theme and Save music. Comments: This is basically a prog metal medley of eight FF1 OST tracks. It was a big challenge for us to arrange this, as major scales are predominant in the original tracks, and we tend to avoid them in our compositions. Anyway, we think it came out decently. Recording this took lots of effort and time, but it was definitely worth it. The medley is rather conservative in terms of harmony –with some exceptions like, for example, a ‘jazzy’ take on “Menu theme”-, but we played quite a lot with time signatures, keeping very few of the originals. We really hope you guys like this! I really want to thank Andrew Struve –AKA Obtuse- for telling me about this project, Brandon Strader for making a kickass intro for the song and for his invaluable support, and my good friend Claudio Lavín, who recorded the guitars and made the solos. Without your help this wouldn’t have been possible! Fun fact: neither I nor Claudio have EVER played FF1. ----------------- - Underwater Palace - Gurgu - Chaos - Menu - Ending - Town - Openinghttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d91WF_l7lUg - Save

ReMixer name: nintendude794 Game(s) Arranged: Donkey Kong Country Name Of Arrangement: Depth Of The Deep Name Of Song(s) Arranged: Aquatic Ambience Ahoy again, Judges! I hope y'all have fared well in the nearly-a-year it's been since the judgement of my Jolly Bowser's Road. I've had this new submission in its current state for almost exactly six months. I figure there's no better time than now to send it on up there. One thing, though: since it's another piano performance recorded into GarageBand, the dynamic range--I mean, like, the variety of audible intensities on the various keys--makes the volume unbalanced again. For example, regarding my last submission, DarkeSword mentioned having to turn up his speakers to hear my higher-pitched parts over the ambient noise of his room; likely a similar problem again this time. Why do I bother sending it in then? This is stupid and noobish, but basically I can't figure out how to do Dynamic Range Compression--recommended to me in the workshop--in GarageBand. So the way I see it, before I do any even further investigation, I ought to verify I'm not wasting my time in doing so: in the event that y'all feel nothing else is wrong with it, I have reason to look even harder into correcting the issue as to let it pass y'all's examination. About the remix: 0) Once again endured a similar/same-as-always Arrange, Experiment, Organize, Improv {A.E.O.I.-- almost had all the vowels, darned U!} sorta process leading up to this here remix 1) Got a Yamaha DGX640 for Christmas 2) Recorded and edited this--my first project with the fancy new keyboard--together in only approximately 3 hours. 3) A year ago, I realized Aquatic Ambience is my favorite videogame theme of all time, largely thanks to Vigilante's mix from Kong In Concert, "Beneath The Surface". My iTunes play-count on that track? Uhhhhh......... Anyway, DK Country is the first videogame I ever played. 4) Folks in the Workshop forum seem to dig it 5) Hopefully y'all do too! Enjoy! Sincerely with Thanks, Hunter "Rubix" Short, a.k.a. nintendude794 P.S.: I've recently started to [try to] learn FLstudio; perhaps sooner than later my sucking-ness shall cease! :/ Sent from my iPad ---------------------

*NO* Command & Conquer 'Instinct Reaction'
DragonAvenger replied to OceansAndrew's topic in Judges Decisions
Andrew's pretty much got this. Overall there are some good things going on here, but it just follows the source too closely for it to pass arrangement. I'm also in favor of turning the volume down a pinch, and I can't say I'm a fan of the opening bell synth (and wherever else it is used). Some of the harmonies in it feel like they aren't gelling with the rest of the track. NO
