  1. Seven Force is a pretty cool source. Not really feeling Ancient Ruins, but you did some good work with it. Arrangement-wise, you've got a lot of different sections here, and there really isn't much flow between them. Can't say I'm feeling the sound effect transition at all especially; the momentum you had there was effectively killed. Each of these different sections could probably be expanded into their own songs. Samples are pretty basic, although I think for the most part you are using them well. A lot of this feels mechanical as well, I think a little humanization will help things out a bit. There are definitely some good moments in here, but I think this needs a lot of work on the arrangement, possibly an overhaul. NO (resubmit)

  4. I had to listen to this one a lot, and not because of any technical issues. This is a pretty standard arrangement of Gerudo for piano, and there are plenty of nice points to it. What's holding this back, I think, is that it's hard to make this unique on piano when it's been done so many times. The playing is nice, and the arrangement is nice, but there's nothing here that's really wowing me, to be blunt and honest. Jesse makes some good points, and I agree that it's not a piece that has a huge build-up, although I don't think it needs to. Negatives aside, when I listen to this piece I am enjoying it, and I think that while not breaking new ground, it achieves what it sets out to do. It takes the source and there is personalization and expansion, the playing is fluid and emotional, and it's enjoyable. YES (borderline)
  5. As you mention, the arrangement is pretty close structurally close to the original, but there's a lot of personalization here. What's essentially killing this is the sounds and the production. None of the sounds are really cutting it for me, and a lot of it feels mechanical, which is throwing off the jazz feel. I felt like the bass could have come up a bit, and the kick drum could have a little more oomph as well. Arrangement is there, it's the rest holding this back. NO (resubmit)
  6. Love the arrangement here, you've combined the two sources pretty well here. Uncharted Worlds is used pretty subtly, which works well for it in this context. The style otherwise isn't too different from Suicide Mission, but you've added your own personal flair to it, as well as some different instrumentation. Liking it on this end of things. Production is pretty good, although I've got a few nitpicks. The balance of different instruments is mostly good, but I think there could be some tweaking. The piano comes in a bit loud at the beginning, for example, and the lead guitar after it. I also felt like some instruments were panned a little too hard for headphones, and could use just a touch more centering. Quite nice, and I love me some epic music mixin's. YES
  7. The Halc influence is very obvious here. Very similar to his style and soundfonts. I think you've approached this very well, and I like the arrangement you have here. It starts out pretty straight forward, but moves away as you go, while still keeping the connection to the source pretty well. I'd say the percussion wasn't really doing it for me overall, I'd have liked it to be a sequenced a little more interesting, when it's present. Compression is running a little high as well, you could back off that a bit. I'm good with giving this a YES
  8. It's great to see some mixers reaching out to our less-than-known games to find and show appreciation to. Both sources here are pretty cool to listen to, and I definitely agree they make good companions for one another. The mix itself is somewhat understated, which matches the sources, to be honest. That being said, it's still a fun listen, and it's not hard to pick out the source throughout. The soundscape is pretty cool, although I'd like the background instruments to come down just a tad to let the melody instruments shine through a little more. Percussion is interesting throughout, and keeps things moving. Maybe not something you'd listen to super-intently, but lots of little details in here, and it's a fun mix. YES
  9. Cool idea for this sub. There are quite a lot of effects, plenty of wubs as well. When the source is present, it's very clearly used. The intro is pretty long for the track, the melody itself doesn't come in until 0:51, which is a sizeable chunk. Add to that some of the other sections that aren't using source, and it adds up to a lot of time where I'm not hearing the Ocean Palace in this. I'd suggest either incorporating the source more often or trimming down on the sections that aren't using the theme as much. Some of the transitions aren't very smooth, especially at 1:51. There are a lot of points where the song feels sparse, and could maybe use some backing pads (especially in the midranges) to fill things out a little more. I think the bigger issue than the arrangement is some balance issues. Lots of wubs here, and they're cool, but they are really overpowering almost everything else. I'd like the focus to be more on the melodies than just the wubs, regardless if the genre is more wub-focused. I'd like to see this more source-oriented, and the balance worked with overall. I've been a long time listener of OC Remix ever since the early years but recently decided to work up my production skills and start submitting to the site. When decided which game I wanted to use music from to remix, I looked up Mass Effect and its sequel and was shocked that there were only a couple entries for them. So I decided to show some love for the series. I took a couple of my favorites from the series ("Suicide Mission" & "Uncharted Worlds") and experimented intertwining their themes and motifs all while adding my own flavor to the mix. Hope you guys like it! Source: - Suicide Mission http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lpu5cTk_qvI - Uncharted Worlds-Bryan
  12. Greetings once again! DarkSim here with a ReMix of a relatively unknown indie game called Machinarium ( http://machinarium.net for the demo/info) in my continuing quest to seek out (and remix) obscure and brilliant sources. Sources: 1. "Pipe Wrench Dubstep" - 2. "Clockwise Operetta" - Composer: Tomas Dvorak A friend recommended me this game recently, and whilst I thought it was a little pricey for a point-and-click adventure, it did come with a complete soundtrack as part of the purchase. Really good of them to do that, and it's totally worth it as the music is superb. The game's set in a pretty bleak, surreal world inhabited by robots, but has a tremendous amount of charm, and it's set to a beautiful sonic backing that I just had to remix somehow. The 2 source tunes I chose to remix I felt complemented each other well, as Pipe Wrench Dubstep is a great upbeat source for a chorus, and Clockwise Operetta is a fantastic mood setter, with a solo or 2 in there to play off in a breakdown. I'd been listening to PrototypeRaptor's "Penultimate" album for a month before making this and so I decided to try and emulate his style for this track - a tall order indeed, but with my own spin on it I feel I succeeded. I took a slightly different approach to arrangement here in that I only listened to the sources a few times before trying to regurgitate the melodies from memory, thus capturing the feel of the song rather than the exact notes. Hopefully it paid off, I think I managed to get a similar sound and stay true to the atmosphere of the game whilst channeling the 2 sources into an electro-house ReMix. A note on the production - this was made entirely in Ableton Live Suite 8 with no external plugins or VSTs. I really like Ableton as a workstation and highly recommend it! I abused the 'Corpus' module a lot in this track to get some of the metallic sounds, and 'Beat Repeat' was used for some subtle drum effects in the absence of dBlue Glitch. Thanks

This remix took me a total of 26 hours and 3 minutes before the first render of the whole track; and after many revisions, the total time spent on this (spent, not elapsed, lol I wish) came out to 29 hours and 43 minutes (that's almost as good as zircon, right?). That being said, please enjoy the fruits of my labor :DDD Hope you guys enjoy. Thanks a ton to all who inspired me to remix this track, especially halc, Rozovian, Willrock, zircon, as well djpretzel and OCRemix itself, all of whom I would never have gotten to the point I am today, musically, without. --------------------
  14. There's a lot of potential in this, but there are four things that I think are really holding this back. First is that there are a lot of timing issues, especially starting around 1:55. As a whole everything needs to line up better. Secondly, I'm unsure about the Veldt connection. I see what you're going for, but without being told beforehand, I would have never made that connection on my own. Thirdly, your intonation has improved from some of the other vocals I've heard, but it's not at a level it needs to be for this, where your voice is a lot more exposed. Lastly, as a whole I think the backing for the vocals could come down, and the rhythm guitars could especially be brought down to blend better and give the vocals some room to breathe. Good stuff: I really like the concept, and the lyrics are unique and appropriate for the track. The track is very personalized, which is also a plus. Hit up that stuff, and I hope I get to hear it again, NO (resubmit)
  15. Pretty cool approach. For whatever reason, FFT music is ridiculously hard to mix well, so kudos for taking this on. I like how you've used the different elements in the electronica, and didn't just stick to the melody for it. When the melody does come in, it's relatively unaltered, and I do wish you'd done a little more with that, either through breaking it up, or playing around with the melody more. Production is what is really holding this back. Right off, the bass is way overpowering. Not really feeling your lead synths, either. They're lacking the power and cut and presence to really pull out as a lead, and overall you could use something more effective. One example is the string lead, which has a relatively slow attack, making the melody feel just out of time. Mostly it's production here, balance foremost, but this definitely needs another look for us. Wouldn't hurt to hit up the melody lines a little more, as well. NO (resubmit)
  16. So, definitely an amusing track. I mean, any track that has "Balls" is comedy gold, right? I will admit to legitimately laughing out loud when I heard that in the preview video for the project, so nice work there. It took me a little while to find the source at all points, but it is surprisingly present for most, if not all of the track (sans the intro/outro). I'd have liked to have more of the source in the vocals (I.E. having the source be a little more prominent), but when it is used, it's done effectively. Some of the transitions are awkward ('Fight, fight fight!' at 4:21 back into the themes, for example). I will have to admit that the vocal melody feels awkward in different parts of the mix. I'm not sure if it's the melody itself, or the lyrics, or a combination. The presentation isn't really winning me over because of it, as well as the production issues I'm hearing. Overall I'm not feeling the connection of the intro and outtro, but that might be just me. I could do without them, overall. The vocals feel like they're sitting on top of the music, and the music feels pretty far back comparatively. I'd like them to blend a little better. Drums especially feel pretty understated. 1:55 and some other sections have a little bit of clipping on it. Overall vocal intonation is pretty good, but there are a couple of spots that could have used some touch-ups. Definitely a fun track, but I think there's too many little issues that are adding up. NO (resubmit)
  17. Overall this is pretty sick. The playing is sick, and production is very clean. Solos are also very nice. The arrangement is conservative at times, as per a lot of DoD tracks, and that's what's holding me back on this. I'm also not a fan of the fade-out ending, and would have liked to see something a little more definitive. I think it's a close call, and I'm willing to give this a nod. Good luck with the rest of the vote. YES (borderline)
  18. Comparing the two newer versions, this is a lot clearer. Still feeling a little mechanical on the piano, but it doesn't seem to be as much an issue this time around. Drums feel more integrated to me as well. Works for me, YES
  19. Hey guys, look I did a song. You might have heard it in the Nov.2010 DoD (virt month). This version has more careful mixing and mastering but is otherwise identical in terms of performances. The song is 5.01 MB for 3:30 min of music but it's VBR with a high pass at 19.7 khz so the average bit rate is much higher than 128 yet the file size is much lower than naive VBR settings would achieve at this quality. Let me know if you want me to try and shrink it some more. ReMixer name -- Rize Real name -- Dave T. I arranged these two themes long ago, back in 2004, but the result wasn’t received well due to the shaky nature of my voice and poor production quality. So that mix sat on my hard drive for me and close friends to listen to. However, the two themes are dear to my heart and now that I’ve developed more and learned a bit more about production, I’ve been itching to revisit them. This is the product of that desire. One neat tidbit about this submission is that the percussion is recorded live. I recently purchased a new fire wire interface (from zzounds through OCRemix!) that allows for multiple ins (and outs) to their own respective track. I was able to use 4 different mic’s simultaneously to get a very accurate sound for the djembe and 2 mic’s for the tambourine. I’m very happy with the results, personally. I also recently upgraded to Cakewalk Sonar X1, which this mix is recorded in. It was mastered in Adobe Soundbooth. There are lyrics to this arrangement. I personally fell my vocal abilities have improved since my latest arrangement. They are as follows: ----------------------------- I never thought those days would end Never thought hearts could mend The feelings inside of me The passions that burn to be I see clearly Things that once were so hard to find Hold them dearly To my side Everyone out there is lookin’ for somethin’ If you’re fallin’ from the sky then just hit the ground runnin’ No matter where you land Just keep your feet in the sand And face another day It’s just another day Every day passin’ is another day to roam If you start to feel lonely, know that you’re not alone I’ll always be here Know I’ll always be near No matter where you go You’re never alone Thoughts are rising Now advising Compromising You Pushin’ through the bad times, when you start to feel low The flower needs the rain, just as it needs the sun to grow In the face of all the pain Your will is not in vain Never stop going strong Just keep going strong Just keep your head up, keep your sights toward the sky Don’t listen to the others, just spread your wings and fly Always be true To the things you once knew Don’t give up on hope Never give up on hope Thoughts are rising Now advising Compromising You Always dreaming Thoughts are streaming Future gleaming Through ----------------------------- Hope you enjoy it! I certainly enjoyed creating it.

PROJECT MIX: POKÉMON: The Missingno Tracks Game: Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal Song: Rival Battle The story of this mix very much mirrors the story of the Missingno Tracks project itself. I have a great fondness for the games and also for the show, so my dream was to create the mutant lovechild of the Rival Battle theme (assigned to me by OmegaDonut, the original project leader) and the original anime theme song. The first test mp3 was posted to the project forum on 27 Feb, 2006. What ensued was a (nearly) 5-year odyssey of recording, tweaking, begging people to get me their parts, long periods of inactivity, retweaking, reretweaking, etc. My lead singer moved to New York midway through production, so part of the delay was waiting for him to come to town on a visit so we could do the final pokémon battle recordings. It's been a long, arduous journey, but hopefully it has paid off in the end with an enjoyable mix. Oh, and my favorite part was parading a bunch of amazing, talented singers into my house to yell "BIGGER POKÉBALLS!" at the top of their voice. 22. This is the second remix I will have sent in. The first one was not accepted, but for good reason. This song I believe has much more potential. This is an EDM remix of "Run Past Through The Plain" off of the Final Fantasy Tactics ost. My artist name is Soul De Sol, My real name is Michael Kane Hall My email is BenisIndustries@gmail.com I was listening to the soundtrack one day, and, while listening to this song, I noticed that the tempo and beat were perfect for EDM! One thing I really love about this song is how the notes naturally build enormous amounts of tension. This song is so quick paced I simply love it. I've been composing music using Fruity Loops now for about 2 and a half years now. Well I hope you guys enjoy it, I believe this piece is much more professional than the last one. Btw, I love the site. =3 ---------------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=790UL0_J4Xg

So yeah, here's a resub I had pretty much forgotten about this remix until by chance I found the midi for it that I had saved. . . inspiration hit hard. My style has evolved since the first (two) version(s) of this remix, and it was fun to compare the two remixes after they were finished to see just how much it has changed. So here it is, another product of my toils, another unclassifiable remix as far as genre is concerned (dance, chiptune, ambient, downtempo. . . . ?!?!?!). . . however I hope it is at least enjoyable for you guys Special thanks to Level 99 and Willrock at the Workshop Board for all their help (and influence) with this track. Also thanks to other influences like Rozovian, zircon, and halc from OCR, and also Deadmau5 (of course). P.S. I had never even heard "Running Up That Hill" until you pointed out the similarity, Palp. . . it's actually kinda freaky, the first few seconds sound REALLY similar. . . hahaha

  25. Damn good treatment to this sound. Overall the arrangement is great, and it's a pleasure to listen to. There are some nitpicks; the vocals feel like they are delivered a little awkwardly at times ("at the end of each day" for example), and there are a couple times where the balance isn't quite right. A lot of it stems from the nature of having everyone record separately, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt, plus it's not that too detracting anyways. The transition to the slower section is a little awkward as well, though coming back into things is great. Minor nitpicks because I know you'll use them to improve on the next sub, otherwise great! YES
