  1. Well there are plenty of people that for example have watched The Last of Us entirely on youtube.

But let's be real here. Nintendo doesn't give a shit about high level play scaring people off, and they're just using youtube as a scapegoat. Sakurai has made it clear the long, crazy hours he's been working, and he's admitted to even having injured himself in his work. No, he just doesn't want to make a story mode due to the resource cost. Let's be quite real here.

  2. So gang I have a question, and I'm sure this has probably been posted in the thread at some point, but due to the new Wii U Wiimotes being problematic on certain USB bluetooth adapters such as the internal on my laptop, I decided to grab a used Wiimote Plus for the original Wii on Amazon. My question though is will a nunchuck that is branded as a Wii U Remote nunchuck also work with an old Wiimote for the original Wii?

  3. Personally speaking, I'm fine with the lack of a story mode in a fighter, as more often than not it's all about the multiplayer(be it online or off). I bought Soul Calibur II on the PS2 back in the day along with other fighters like Capcom Vs SNK 2, but as much as I loved them, I just couldn't keep at it for too long without getting some multiplay in.

Of course I DO appreciate when a fighter DOES incorporate a pretty cool story mode like Mortal Kombat, but it's no deal breaker for me. by a longshot.

Looking forward to some 3DS Smash Brothers.

  4. If there's anything I've learned in customer service and making recommendations and such, it's that there is a certain art to it. If anything, most of the gamestop employees that don't know when to quit just suck at homing in on customer needs, polite conversation, and respecting boundaries/limits. Like Mirby said though, that's strictly on the employee and not necessarily Gamestop. Not everyone is meant to deal with people on a 1-on-1 level, either. Some people quite frankly just suck at it.

  5. I also don't understand the massive amounts of hate for Gamestop. Of course, take my opinion with a grain of salt as I work in the service industry, but these guys are a business in an otherwise very expensive industry.

Being a business, they are going to make business decisions that make sense given their business objectives. It makes next to no sense to carry a used copy of Star Ocean: 2nd Story or Star Ocean: 'Til The End of Time if there won't be anyone to actually buy the thing versus stocking up with a few copies of the latest Gears of War or Madden. Doing the former only wastes shelf space, and they're losing money on the deal by giving you anything in the first place more often than not.

Also, as Brushfire has alluded to, there's a STARK contrast between the alignment of corporate versus the store manager/employees. Corporate is usually doing their thing(usually wrong), while the managers/employees are trying to do their best to answer customer needs with a smile for customers who quite frankly are probably better off with a boot a few feet up their ass.

And really, shame on you for buying a $55 used copy of a game versus $60 for a new copy. If you like supporting game devs, this shouldn't even be an issue for you. Who cares if an employee touched it for a few days? We aren't talking about a perishable good here.

Finally, when it comes to the whole pestering for pre-orders and PowerUp Rewards, again, that's corporate at work. At the same time though, what's wrong with offering something to customers that, heaven forbid, they actually might be interested in? Of course the average Gamestop consumer might be more versed in the latest happenings in gaming(or maybe not), but seriously, just say "no thanks, I'm not interested" without sounding like a total ass about it and move on with your life. There's no reason to treat an employee like shit just because they're doing their job.

Gamestop admittedly isn't nearly as good as a lot of other retailers from the 90's may have been, but if there's one truth, it's that they aren't going ANYWHERE anytime soon. Physical media is here to stay, folks. Regardless of what's what about "you're purchasing a license" for a piece of software, people still like the sense of ownership from buying a disc. Hell, it's why the internet threw a huge hissy fit over the Xbox One for so long. People like the convenience of walking into a store, picking up what they're looking for, maybe browse around and find something they didn't know they wanted, and engage in some laughs with some associates(egad! SOCIAL interaction in a STORE!?). Like others have said, if you don't like it, then just don't shop there, maybe leave a few well-elaborated comments on their suggestion box(or whatever), and leave it at that. I personally have no qualms shopping there.

  6. Like I said, bad game. Can't blame any "mature plot elements" for bad game design.

Actually as Bleck pointed out, the biggest complaint with the game by many WAS in fact the god awful execution of a plot with "mature themes" in a game that was otherwise pretty fun. I think most of the people who had qualms with the gameplay were just diehard fans of the "traditional" style of Metroid and wanted a return to that.

  7. Also I just watched Mulan last night. Does it have adult undertones? Sure, and in spades.

But that doesn't make a puppy leading a pack of feral chickens through a farm any more mature and any less enjoyable because of said lack of maturity, and I'm a 27-year-old dude.

  8. Dude. It's 10 dollars.

    10 dollars.

You're getting Earthbound for 10 dollars.

You're getting what many consider to be one of the greatest things to come out of Nintendo, FINALLY re-released at who-knows-what expense, for 10 money dollars that you'd otherwise probably use on 2 bad-for-you Big Macs.

  9. I don't really get how Nintendo would have a negative influence on Atlus. They sure didn't stop Xenoblade from being hailed as one of the better JRPGs of the previous generation.

Also hey that Rayman Legends game looks to finally be out of the oven(or at least the 360 version that held every other one up finally is!), and you should probably pick it up early September when it finally releases! I'm now going through Origins myself, and I have to say it's the most fun I've had in a 2D platformer since... Well probably Super Mario World 2!

  10. I agree. I actually really like the darkness of the plot. It feels very genuine as far as despair goes, and it makes me feel the paralyzing fear too. And as you say above, it's totally warranted and doesn't feel forced at all, but rather an inevitable reaction.

Did I mention I think the music for the anime is fantastic? No? I think it's fantastic.

I actually started watching Attack on Titan 'cause I saw freaking DJP give it some props, and am enjoying it a lot thus far. I'm just worried that at some point it's going to delve too far into anime tropes given the way one of the last episodes I saw played out.

I don't think it's too spoilery to say that I appreciated how they essentially went Full Metal Jacket with the juxtaposing of certain periods as well as the brutality of the characters' reality.

  11. Don't know if anyone's posted it yet, but here's a thoughtful article on the differences between the lastest 3D Land and previous 3D Mario games, and why they actually do a lot to bring in new players, veterens, and "new old" players that may have dropped off before Mario 64.

In my opinion, it does a good job elaborating on an idea that I felt was the reason so many people dropped off Mario when it went full 3D on the N64. Hell, my mom will play NSMBU. That is an extremely compelling thought to me as a developer and industry member hopeful. Hell, even just as a gamer and a family person.

This article does a good job at getting me hyped for this game even more.

  12. I don't compare Nintendo with other publishers because they're not on par, they're still catching up. The fact that they're releasing the best Sonic title in recent time is sad, and the fact that they had to save Mega Man from being a fat, alternate box art mess. They're not on the same level as EA, Activision, Konami, Microsoft, 2K, etc.

...What? I'm not even sure I understand what you're saying here... Nintendo is bad because they're releasing the best Sonic title in recent time? Isn't releasing the best of something good? And I could have sworn Sonic was a Sega property?

...And I don't even know where to begin tackling the second part of that post.

You DO know there's a 'Preview Post' button next to 'Submit Reply', right? I guess some people just like doin' it live.

  13. I'm gonna get a little tin foil hat here so bear with me, gang.

So I'm really wondering about how Gamestop is going to handle the Xbox One if at all. Reason being, I have 4 friends on my Facebook list that are Gamestop Managers in different states, and they are ALWAYS posting something or another about "come in to grab your preorders" and posting all sorts of other related stuffs. While these guys have been going nuts about the PS4 and getting everyone to grab one, absolutely no mention on any front about the Xbox One at all.

I highly doubt Gamestop would ignore that train without good reason, but it all just seems very odd to me. /tinfoilhat

  14. Seriously? Microsoft just wasn't paying attention to the fiasco that was the PSP Go?

This statement is unrelated to Brush's post as much as it's regarding MS' supposed stance of "digital distribution is the future!"

  15. Speaking of the frog suit!

Also I have to take it back. After watching the trailer for Mario 3D World last night, my hype meters flew through the roof. The game's levels look like they'll eat me alive, there are so many creative things going on from that dragon "canoe"(?) riding thing, the inclusion of 4 characters with actual differences, new enemies, new music, etc.

On Mario Kart 8, going through the trailer again, I can see how choosing to drive along walls can really impact racing strategy from several instances in the vid, but after playing Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed, I REALLY hope Nintendo brings back Double Dash or previous levels of competitiveness and seriously tone down the on rails feel and the excessive rubber banding.

I'm pretty hyped for the future of the Wii U now.
