  1. Gonna have to agree with the other judges. THere is a really nice base here, and I think the lyrics are good, and the soundscape appropriate, but there are a few minor execution details that need to be ironed out. The timing issues mentioned, as well as some of the more subtle vocal intonation issues. I also think that the vocals are a touch too buried by othe relements and could come up a bit more. I love the concept and would like to hear a resub, please. No, please resubmit
  2. Yeah, this is about right. Why would you even do that? Send one to Brushfire while you are at it.
  3. Hey Judges, PrototypeRaptor here with a new remix of a oft-loved but rather underrepresented game: Sonic Adventure for the ill-fated Sega Dreamcast. I loved the opening theme from the moment I first watched the intro cutscene and have wanted to remix it forever, but I could never settle on a particular style to do it in... ...until I realized while listening to the Pendulum album "In Silico" that the song was practically begging to be done in their style of Rock'n' Bass. So, here is my shameless recreation of Rob Swire and Company's sonic world (ha) of angular beats, epic vocoded choruses, sawtoothy synth madness, and DAT SNARE. Enjoy, and thanks for listening. -original lyrics: Thunder, rain, and lightning Danger, water rising Clamor, sirens wailing It's such a bad sign Shadows of dark creatures Steel clouds floating in the air People run for shelter What's gonna happen to us All the steps we take; all the moves we make; all the pain at stake I see the chaos for everyone; who are we; what can we do You and I are same in the way that we have our own styles that we won't change Yours is filled with evil and mine's not there is no way I can lose Can't hold on much longer; but I will never let go I know it's a one way track; tell me now how long this will last I'm not gonna think this way; nor will I count on others Close my eyes and feel it burn; now I see what I've gotta do Open your heart, it's gonna be all right Ancient city blazing Shadows keep attacking Little children crying Confusion, hopeless anger I don't know what it can be but you drive me crazy All your cunning tricks make me sick; you won't have it your own way Can't hold on much longer; but I will never let go I know it's a one way track; tell me now how long this will last I'm not gonna think this way; nor will I count on others Close my eyes and feel it burn; now I see what I've gotta do Open your heart, it's gonna be all right If it won't stop, there will be no future for us Its heart is tied down by all the hate; gotta set him free I know it's a one way track; tell me now how long this will last Close my eyes and feel it burn; now I see what I've gotta do Can't hold on much longer; but I will never let go I know it's a one way track; tell me now how long this will last I'm not gonna think this way; nor will I count on others Close my eyes and feel it burn; now I see what I've gotta do Open your heart, it's gonna be all right
  4. -remixer name: neb yark -name: Ben Kray -email: benkray@gmail.com -website: soundcloud.com/benkray -user id: 25218 Game arranged: Top Gear (1992 SNES) song: "Top Gear Soundtrack - Bordeaux" (Track 3) composer: Barry Lietch, Hiroyuki Masuno I sent in a submission a couple years back that got rejected (looking back i know why haha) and this one, I feel, is a lot better. Honestly, I started this project to remix a song that would annoy people (mainly my friends) but once i made a few leads that fit, (the one you hear at the start), i got serious and started to take some time in refining everything and adding what needed to be added. note: track 3 = Bordeaux http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y2qH72qM2w
  5. probably until the mixer fixes the problems. looks like we have some old ones in limbo Maybe if it reaches the 5 year mark, we'll take it down.
  6. You can vote, you are expected to be unbiased regardless ..except when it comes to my ReMixes, which you need to always YES, because we are bros
  7. Still has a few minor issues, but this is a definite improvement for me. Yes
  8. Nice textures and a pretty solid beat, this is a pretty cool take on the source. I like the push-pull feeling going on, and though the compression is a bit on the heavy side, there are enough breakdowns that I don't feel completely battered by the music. The sources were melded together pretty smoothly, and overall I was feeling this. I think the balance could be altered slightly to have a bit more melodic interest, but the real strong point of this is the effective builds and breaks. I think this clears the bar. Yes
  9. yes, but I am a deadbeat and haven't made the bell fix yet. >___>
  10. I agree that some more nuanced percussion would have totally put this over, but this is a really pleasant chip adventure. Nice gates, good melodic elaboration, and a good running length. Not a ton more to add, this is pretty fun stuff. Yes
  11. Overall I am pretty impressed with the ambition here, but the guitars and drums are way too reverbed - generally the most effective rock + orchestra tracks are mixed with the rock band up front, and the orchestra and such behind them. Some of the guitar rhythm playing was pretty off the beat as well, especially during the 16th note chugs; it sounds like you have the chops to play this kindof stuff, so redoing the part until it's right is the best plan. This really has promise as an arrangement, but the production needs to click together for it to really work. I'd love to hear this revised! No, please resubmit
  12. Some creative and cool ideas added to a solid source theme, but I gotta agree that it gets a little too repetitive. Some of the sounds used were good, while others lacked presence. You definitely have a good foundation here, and with a little bit more personalization and a few different leads that had a stronger attack, this would be cool. Some suggestions to further personalize this would be to add some harmonies, more cool rhythmic change-ups, counterpoint ideas, or even add in a second theme. No, please resubmit
  13. i know bahamut is out and about but i want to buy lufia DS from him someone make this happen!
  14. sum n00bs. and yeah, it's great seeing all this stuff being closed out. sons, I am not disappoint.
  15. Definitely plays it close to the source, but the source is really good, so why mess too much with a good thing? Production was clean, playing was solid, and solos and minor adjustments were nice. I think the general obscurity of the source makes me more inclined to pass this, as i'd never heard of the game before, let alone the song, and having a generally no-frills version is preferable than one that had 51% source and 49% original material. The all live aspect is also a plus in my book. Not sure how the other judges will feel, but my vote is Yes edit I agree with the overall arrangement being too conservative. 1:12-2:00 does some soloing and riffing on top of the foundation of the original. I love the soloing, but that's basically the aspect that made this stand apart from the original, not really any particular interpretation of the source tune itself beyond the adaptation to rock. As was pointed out, the patterns, rhythms, tempo and overall mood were pretty much the same as the original, only a rock cover and upgrade. I love it in a vacuum, and don't mean to disrespect David, who is an awesome musician and really on fire with quality arrangement since returning to the scene. This one just happened to be much more conservative than his previous material, no hate. If you want to come back to it and interpret the theme itself more, David, that's cool. If not, it's a great rock arrangement that everyone should check out regardless. NO (resubmit)
  16. I really like the track, but the drums and guitars are way far back. Like; really far back. Vocal performances were excellent, the arrangement was solid, and the guitars were hot. Lyrics and breakdown were hilarious, and the little references to the opening were clever and well utilized. I think things just need to be rebalanced with the backing track up a bit more, and this is good. Easy fix. No, please resubmit
  17. Nice production, cool lyrics, good arrangement. I think the horn section could stand to be a little tighter and pushed forward a touch in the mix, and the rhythm guitars tread on them a bit, and could stand to have the frequencies trimmed a bit around the 2k, and a little bit more low response in the bass would be nice. Otherwise; very good stuff. I like it. Yes
  18. this was a 1-2 punch for the inbox. It means more mixes are getting judged, and 2 of the most prolific remixers are too busy judging to submit anything new. Genius!
  19. Some pretty excellent ideas here, I love the different moods the song has, and the transitions are even pretty good, despite the wildly varied styles. Some of the samples felt a little thin; like the drums that lacked much presence, and some samples felt thin, even though they sounded well programmed, like the trumpet. Overall I think this is really close, but a little improvement on the sounds would make me feel better about it. No, please resubmit
  20. Nutritious! and halc! Give them a nice congratulations, and then please feel free to include them in any further judge bashing!
  21. This one is pretty close to me, on one hand, i love the intro and variation, but on the other, I don't feel like the track took any real risks, and as such, it feels like a simplified version of the original, without much expansion. I love the performance, but it's not personalized enough beyond the intro and genre conversion. No, please resubmit
  22. This is a very nice metal song. I thought the arrangement was really good, and the only thing that is really bugging me is for the first verse, the lead playing is getting buried a bit. Great ultra-clean rhythm tone, makes it really punchy. It might be a bit too scooped, as there isn't a lot of pitch to it, but I can't deny the solid thwack it's giving me when it hits. Really enjoying this, but I want to hear a little more mids in the rhythm guitars, and the leads near the beginning brought up please Yes (conditional)
  23. Definitely made some nice improvements to this since the first time around. There are some minor production issues, such as a few areas being over-compressed slightly, mainly when everything is going full power. For sections like this, you will want to EQ your rhythm guitars a bit, taking out some of the frequencies around 2khz. Doing this will help you hear all of the elements of the song at once for this section. The arrangement I thought was great, cool transitions, good sounds overall, and just the right length. No need to change anything there. The new filters sound really cool, I think that is a good addition. Overall this is really close for me, and i'm not sure where it will lead, but I think this has what it takes to be a really good mix. The creative arrangement, obscure source, and overall solid foundation mean that all you need to do is fix some of the compression issues. So close, but No, please resubmit. I really hope you resub this one more time! It's ok to PM me if you have questions.
