i was one of those hoping for dummy pt 2, so third was definitely a bit disorienting at first. it grew on me though. the rip is a beautiful song, up there with their best.

this seems to be a point of contention for a lot of people. i thought the show went to great lengths to show that sayid and nadia were not meant to be together. it was only in the flashsideways that sayid finally admitted it. like jacob said, the candidates were people who were looking for "something they couldn't find out there". then again i suppose you could make the argument that shannon died too. but then that messes everything up so dont

i personally thought it was perfect (: i really love the way they tied everything together - i'm gonna have to watch the series all the way through again. i gotta say though, the one thing i've felt throughout the series was that the writers had to make certain decisions to appease the network and the fans, but if they had been allowed to just tell the story they set out to tell...over at the av club they mentioned how it would be great if they did a novelization of the series, minus the bullshit. i think it's a pretty cool idea.

so uh lost huh i got the same feeling watching across the sea as i did watching ab aeterno. it's just sort of disappointing when we find out these mystical godlike characters are really just random douchebags who are as confused as anybody else. my main problem with the episode is that pretty much everything about it was clumsy and retarded. allison janney's character basically had to spell out what was going on ("i've made it so the two of you can never hurt each other"), and the season 1 clips in the cave should have been accompanied by captions saying HEY IDIOTS DO YOU GET IT, DO YOU GET WHAT WE ARE DOING HERE.

this is just a random thought i had while listening to geronimo jack's beard the other day: if the island is the cork that was containing the smoke monster, and in the flashsideways the island was effectively destroyed, couldn't that mean that smokey escaped? if he did, then the flashsideways could be read as a glimpse of the world that they're trying to prevent in the main timeline (obviously it isn't the exact world, but it's basically a world where each character has "the thing they most wanted in the world" for the most part - which is sort of what the smoke monster promises them when he is trying to manipulate them). it doesn't seem like that's what they were going for though, seeing as the only real problems the characters have is they havent found TRUE LOVE or w/e, which isn't exactly the hell on earth that seems to be at stake in the main timeline. that was all a bit rambly and stream of consciousness but...anyway, next week is jacob/smoke monster centric so we'll probably figure out a big chunk of it then.

gah, spinnin my wheels on this mix a bit. hyperion: thanks for putting that little clip together. in my head it wasn't gradually raising the cutoff so much as little whisps of the melody (see: ). i incorporated a rough idea of what it might sound like with some fairly obvious dblue glitch fx. the drop doesn't work but i'm thinking that might have more to do with percussion/supporting parts (or lack thereof). either way, though, it'll need work. i've decided to go with a more plucked sound, which i personally think works better. might need a bit more tweaking, or maybe i need to incorporate it in the track earlier so its entry isn't so jarring. anyway, here's the current version (same as link as before): swampy v1

thanks for the feedback! lots of ideas to think about... that's actually almost exactly what i had in mind, a bit of sort of inertia before it goes back down into the basic groove, then builds back up again. yeah the drums are more or less a placeholder for now. i tend to save them for last since i find it easier to come up with ideas for that sort of thing once all the main melodic/structural ideas are in place. i was thinking about a pad...but i tend to be pretty bad at making good pads so i always put it off :\ so i've come up with a rough sketch of the structure that i think works. the middle section ~1:00 is something i threw together just to give a rough idea of what it might sound like. i'm not sure where to go with it, really. it needs to be something that stays relatively low-key so that the next melody entry has impact, but not so much that it is boring...maybe if i put in a pad and the first half is sort of an ambient break, or if i switch up the drums and slowly build...hmm. and the saw in the second melody (~2:12) is just temporary. in my head i heard it as a saw, but i don't think that really makes sense. or maybe i just need to come up with a better sounding saw. swampy v1

so i'm back w/ another attempt at EDM, this time ripping off a bit of moonbeam, a bit of deadmau5...i like the main idea to this, but i've hit a bit of a wall as far as ideas on how it should be paced and so on. i think i'd like there to be a break between the first melody and the second, the second being the sort of climax of the track. any thoughts? swampy v1

i'm 19 and i could hear 20 really faintly. used to be i could tell if a tv was one from really far away i'd feel a sort of pressure, but i couldn't this time.

this was always one of my favourite majora's mask tunes! never thought to do a trance remix of it. i'm personally not a huge fan of the gated synth, it's a little too wispy to convey what is really a very beautiful melody/chord progression. i kept expecting something more...defined.

yeah definitely looking forward to the Richard episode. also from what i've heard, episode 15 is the big stuff-gets-revealed episode. according to Michael Emerson, "none of the series regulars" are actually in the episode.

i heard the news last night. very sad. metaphorical music is one of my favourite hip-hop albums. that remix is really nice Robotaki.

well, the split in the timelines is 1977, so I think the characters' pasts from the point on are fair game. in the podcast the producers brought up the idea of killing a butterfly in the past having a huge impact on the future. the consequences of sinking the island would be that much greater.

i really enjoyed last night's episode. a lot of blogs and comments i've read have criticized the contrived parallels between island Ben and high school teacher Ben, which i think would only have been a problem if it didn't serve a purpose. i thought the (apparent) repentance of Ben was touching, really. Michael Emerson is really great. but ok can somebody clear something up for me real quick wasn't this assumed? i was under the impression that the Ben of the flashsideways timeline was the same who had been shot by Sayid. or am i missing something here. lostpedia associates that event with the original Ben as well. my head aaaaaaaaa

haha you even got the cowbell in there, very nice. never thought i'd see a deadmau5 style track on here, though i guess there's more variation here than in 10 deadmau5 tunes. personally i thought it got a bit muddy during some of the denser sections, but other than that i really enjoyed it.

it's a minor detail, but i liked the tic tac toe game between miles and hurley. i thought the futility of the game brought to mind the conversation between jacob and the smoke monster from the season 5 finale.

i don't really mind goofy forum titles, it feels so welcoming now (: and thread prefixes are a neat idea. bold and/or colouring would definitely be nice.
