  1. I remember hearing this awhile back in the WIP section. Still love how that bass kicks in. I also like the gradual build there is to the piece. The only thing that bugs me is how the vocals are sort of uncomfortably halfway between clean and lofi. If you couldn't get a clearer recording maybe you could've just taken it all the way with the lofi trip hop thing. I don't know. Great job though.
  2. I think the biggest weakness in this mix is that it just sounds like Fruityloops. Using a less generic piano and tweaking the synths with effects and things so they blend better would be a start. The arrangement isn't bad. The drums are a pretty good choice, almost gives it a light rock feel. Might help to have a cleaner transition between the two sections. Also when you have a repetitive melody like that it might help if the supporting parts change and gradually layer over each other.
  3. yeah I was listening to this the other day and tbh I don't see why it couldn't have passed back then. the updates sound great. and I really like that you kept the sine clicking in (:
  4. I've been addicted to Sytrus lately just endlessly churning shit out the last couple days, randomly ended up with a SM64 remix. It's another blatant Deadmau5 ripoff, but I'm pretty new to producing EDM so I guess it makes sense to start off with a relatively simplistic sound like that. Usually I try not to blend multiple sources when I remix, but I just couldn't resist with this. It's all very rough and the transitions aren't quite there. I might work towards submitting it depending on the feedback, I know how bad this site needs another unts unts unts unts unts unts unts unts
  5. This is pretty cool overall. Sort of disappointing that the main Brinstar melody never comes in. Not a whole lot to say...except sounds like a wrong note at 1:10 so you might want to take a look at that.
  6. There are some pretty cool ideas here. I like the atmosphere you've got going on in the background, and the use of xylophone (marimba?) was pretty cool. Gives the song a very different feel from the original while still being recognizable, so good job there. I think the bass is probably the standout problem here...it's too deep, too loud, and it drowns everything else out. The drums are pretty boring, but I'm not sure it's because of the repetition. I think it might sound better if the pattern was a bit more intricate, maybe with some little auxilary percussion parts - especially once the xylophone comes in. And the first lead you have playing the main melody is a bit too muted sounding I think. Personally I'd go with something a bit brighter.
  7. This is definitely my favourite game ever. I set up my snes a couple months ago to play through it again for the first time since I was like 8 years old and it was weird because I sort of instinctively knew where all the secrets and hidden chests were without actually knowing what I was doing. Still can't get 100 super jumps though.
  8. It definitely is. If you listen to pretty much anything by Justice you'll notice that it's a big part of their sound. Actually, in a way this isn't compressed enough compared to Justice since I tried to avoid gain pumping which they use a lot. I think the harshness of the sounds is partly due to the fact that I haven't figured out a way to get the sounds I was looking for without abusing the waveshaper. If I can fix that up and figure out an actual arrangement for this then I may have something here. Thanks for the comments everybody. Also, here is the source: Battle (VS Trainer).mp3
  9. there was a project but it died
  10. Started this a few months ago but it sort of ended up being an idea that never really went anywhere. I had been listening to a lot of Justice at the time so this is a pretty obvious attempt to recreate that sound. http://alexhhhh.googlepages.com/BattleVSTrainerdemo.mp3
  11. Oh I remember this. Doesn't sound much different from how I remember it. but uh yeah so far this is badass.
  12. This is alright...I think one of the things that makes this song difficult to remix is that it is very repetitive but you don't really notice it because it's awesome. It's kind of a problem here though and the song is pretty static throughout. The arrangement could be an issue as well since it is very similar not only in terms of structure but the kinds of sounds you're using. As far as production goes, I think you could definitely tone down the reverb a bit. It's tolerable in the intro but once the melody comes in - which is buried pretty far back as it is - it lacks impact. I think that could also have something to with the fact that the string sample is weak and, in my opinion, not a great choice for the melody in the first place.
  13. If you drag a sample from Edison into the FPC for example it will automatically put it in sliced beats and call it Dragged sample #1 or something. I don't know if there's a way to change the folder it saves to. I've always just exported the project files to a dedicated sample folder for that particular project.
  14. Looks like I'll have to use tech support...Thanks for your help though.
  15. Yeah I had to use the Service Center to activate it but it says that the software is up to date.
  16. I just bought this and according to the instructions I'm supposed to install the expansion first and then drag the .nks files to the library afterwards. I did this but whenever I try to use the patches that I copied over I get an error saying "This patch is not compatible with your program version". Anybody know how to fix this?
  17. Sounds really cool, I'll be looking out for this one.

  19. working link I've been trying to remix this song for awhile now, so I'm curious to hear your take on it... ok doesn't sound like there's a lot here yet. This sounds like one big intro as it is right now. The first minute are pretty sparse and it might be a good idea to bring in the drums earlier or something. I don't know, this sounds like too early a WIP to really comment on. Keep working on it though, we need a remix of this song on this site.
  20. I liked the version of this song you have on R:TS but I think I like this one better now. The percussion is great as usual. THumbs up mr. skrypnyk
  21. Started off promising with the bass groove and the pads, but I think this is too meandering in some parts (especially the piano break). A decent first mix, though.
