personally i liked the Midna one better but they're both worth doing i think
-
I thought the bass was a little loud and maybe the guitar could be brought to the forefront a bit more, as right now it sounds kinda weak. And I agree with what DrumUltima said about the treble in the drums being too much.
-
yeah this is nice
did you ever finish that other ambient song you did

the link to the forums anywhere on the OCR wiki goes to the phpbb forum, just thought i'd mention
ok so I was too vague
I meant the info section (http://www.ocremix.org/info) which is also called the OCR wiki which is what I was talking about. The link to the forum on the sidebar there goes to the phpbb forum and not the new ones. I can't edit the sidebar.
and i know it isn't important i just thought i'd mention it.
ok

everybody sees themselves first on the list
for whatever reason

this is really cool it's just i think the melody is too far from the original.
oh and 1:22-1:35 might be a good time for a key change i think?
-
the melody sounds ok but the first note sounds a bit off. i was listening through bad speakers though so i'm not 100% on that. also it doesn't seem to flow as well as the old melody did, it's a little too syncopated i think. but it fits well. maybe when the key changes though you could switch it up a bit.

shnabubula's piano stuff is always amazing, easy download

this is pretty kickass, looking forward to the full version

Intro? Are you talking about the clip or the e-piano/rhode thing I'm using?
The sample clip in the beginning is only there because something has to go there...it can't start with just the piano. Plus I wanted to show F4T4L if he heard that before. Chances are, if I find something better to put there, then I'll put it there.
uhh the clip is fine but the change from such a low quality clip to the e-piano thing is too immediate i think, so i was just suggesting that you use a different sound instead of the e-piano you're using.
-
the intro doesn't really work for me, i think the synth you're using is a beat too bright and sytrus-y sounding. maybe try something a bit mellower? also because the sample is so lo-fi i was expecting almost expecting a madlib beat.
and i would maybe make the main melody relate more to the source because right now i can only really hear it in the key.
the scratching and the drums are blended really well now though, good stuff.
-
ok i've listened to it twice...it's a pretty good EP, happy electronica type thing. the only real problem i have is that some songs (mostly Electrosonic Therapy) rely to heavily on FL sounds and just sound like they could've used better quality synths...but it's not a huge deal you used it pretty creatively.
-
this isn't ambient argh i hate people misusing that word
and as for people saying that this lacks energy i completely disagree with that but i enjoy minimalist music so i guess i have a pretty high bar when it comes to "boring" music
this update is pretty awesome the drums are sooo nice i wish i had the patience to do drums like this. keep it up.
-
this is pretty cool except the scratching doesn't feel as cohesive as i think it could, and it stands out a bit too much...
i can't figure out what this is...i'm guessing mallow's sad song just because that's what the key sounds like?
-
this is very cool, sort of boards of canada-y. the only thing i had a problem with was the claps around the idm part. but other than that, good job
-
ok thanks for the heads up

I think ambient music (and I mean real ambient, like stuff without melodies, chords, and all that) is just as valid as 'regular' music, so I think a submission to ocr being snubbed because there wasn't a lot of 'notes' in the original to begin with would be a bit of a snub to the whole ambient genre.
i listen to lots of ambient music and this barely falls under that category. the fact that i was disappointed with the ending is not because i have something against freeform music, but because i was disappointed with the ending. that's all.
i think this is a cool idea but i'm pretty sure it won't get on ocr for one main reason: it isn't a remix. a song done with sounds from a videogame isn't a videogame remix any more than a song done with sounds from a saxaphone would be a jazz remix.
again this isn't anything i have against the song, which i liked, it's just that there's a good chance it won't make it here. maybe a judge should comment.
-
this is pretty cool. piano is very nice, though a little fake sounding i think it fits the song. personally i was disappointed with the ending.
this is a similar situation to that zelda remix that used the ocarina sound from the game but didn't actually remix anything though right? it probably won't be passed.

ok not bad...strings are kinda icky, too much going on there, and the sample quality is not very good which usually doesn't matter for rap beats but it stands out here which is saying something. when the bass enters it comes across as way too weak. it needs more punch to it. the drums don't help much either, but at least get the bass sounding stronger.
just a personal preference thing...after the break at 1:40 i was expecting the next entrance to be a lot stronger.
overall i guess just make it stronger, it has potential but right now it just lacks energy...and given the repetitive nature of hiphop beats it needs to have that energy.
-
yeah like mlo said it's probably G Major or E minor, but I'm leaning towards E minor since the notes you gave outline the chord (except the F# obviously). if it is E minor then the notes would be E F# G A B C D E (assuming it's natural minor).
-
no i meant musically there isn't anything missing. the phrasing is all very intentional.

Haven't heard this in awhile...
The piano from 0:20-1:25 sounds way to random, like it is playing bits and pieces of a melody but at random intervals. It feels very start-stop if that makes any sense. Also the piano sample sounds kinda detuned and crappy.
There's this instrument you're using that plays chords in the background, I can't tell what it is, but it sounds pretty weak. Also the chords it plays sound pretty random.
I think the pads you use here are too dead sounding, and they don't really establish the atmosphere I think you're going for.
I don't know if you've ever heard Moonloop by Porcupine Tree, but this track has a sort of similar vibe to it in that it is sort of ambient but with more of a groove. I think you need to establish the groove more. ie. instead of the soft hi-hats you use in the beginning, maybe put in some congas or other light percussion?
Listen to Moonloop by Porcupine Tree or something and you'll see what I mean.
