  1. What is the correct pronunciaton of Marle's name from Chrono Trigger? I had always assumed it was "Marl" with a silent 'e'. Recently I've had reason to think it over more thoroughly, and given that sounds particularly odd, I was wondering if "Marle" is just a bad translation, indicating the Japanese "Mare" or "Marre" since there isn't technically an "L" in Japanese. Now if it were Marre, that would become something like "Mary" in English. There's also "Marlay" or possibily "Marli" if you assume the "E" is not silent. So, I was curious if there's an official stated pronunciation, or if not, what the purveying thought is on that.
  2. Clearly you take your time in those stages then, what with having to have 50 rings and hit a sign-post. I didn't even think there were 7 sign posts that quickly. The last boss is amazingly easy with Sonic or Tails. He's only hard if you have to do it with Knuckles since he can't jump as high. Hell Metal Sonic is harder than the giant walking Eggman.
  3. Psh, the last boss in Sonic 2 is so much easier than getting the emeralds in that game. Especially that last one with the rings flying all over the damned place. I don't think I've ever legitimately gotten all the emeralds in Sonic 2, but I've easily and repeatedly gotten them all in Sonic 3/Knuckles. Hanging on to rings...well that's plenty easy if you get to 50 and transform to super or hyper mode, then buzz through the stage unharmed.
  4. Always been a fan of your work Pixie, so even though I'm a little late, I'd like to say Happy Belated Birthday!
  5. Shatner's novel The Return which takes place right after Generations maintains that the Borg were a result of the whole V'Ger incident from the first movie. Unfortunately, First Contact kills that theory since the Borg attempt to contact other Borg quite a ways before Kirk & Co. run into our rogue satellite. However, given nobody ever finds out what the race was that gave V'Ger intelligence and some kind of ship and sent it back home, it's plausible that the Borg were that race. The Borg's origins have always been left mysterious. It's part of their character.
  6. Speaking of Voyager, Spike's doing an all day marathon every day this week it seems. Today the "Year of Hell" was on, which was an awesome set of episodes.
  7. I think the appeal of Trek was always its reflection on humanity. It was an exploration of ourselves through an exploration of a fictional universe. The original will always be my favorite. The trinity of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy was like watching the external representation of our internal dilemmas when faced with certain situations. McCoy would spout off the emotional reaction, Spock would weigh in with intellectual understanding, and then Kirk would put it all together to pull a miracle out of his ass. Plus who didn't want to be Captain Kirk? Young, good looking, able to wet the panties of any woman in the galaxy, and apparently the best strategist in the history of the universe. TNG I remember the most of because I grew up with it. TNG was always geared towards family. The crew was a family that you got to spend some time with each week. Hell, even the Enterprise D was basically a big cruise-liner. And unlike Spock, who constantly fought to remain apart from his human self, Data spent the series trying to figure out how to be human, and it allowed the show to reflect on humanity's little quirks. DS9...grew on me the more I watched it. I think DS9 began terribly because it was a fragmented show that really had nothing to do and nowhere to go. The Dominion Wars at least gave them stories about how we deal with war and death. The whole side aspect of Sisko being a prophet seemed silly to me, and was poorly managed in my opinion. Voyager I enjoyed from the start, but as it grew closer to the end, the emphasis on storytelling quickly took a backseat to the almighty dollar. By the last season it was Lost in Space with tits. Before that, well, it doesn't get anymore "where no one has gone before" than out in the boonies of space. And the fact that half the crew were basically criminals and the other half weren't lent itself to interesting interpersonal dynamics. Enterprise...I don't know what the hell they were thinking with that series. If they wanted to take a step back, the should've chosen the era between Kirk and Picard that had been largely undiscussed, aside from nods to history of the characters in TNG/DS9/VOY. I guess they figured "going back to its roots" would somehow boost interest in Trek again. Maybe it would have, if the series hadn't trampled all over an established history. I gave up on it before the end of the first season, and even going back and trying to watch later episodes makes me cringe still. I thnk the failure of Enterprise really helped out Stargate, which has basically taken over Trek's spot in the SciFi world. Now they're going to do that prequel movie which is a bad idea all around. This cartoon show has promise, but I think the "galaxy of suck" idea is flawed considering Rodenberry's whole idea was that humanity grew up and managed to make a great place for itself.
  8. I guess I'm not the only one who had this idea, just one of the first ones
  9. That's pretty interesting, "To Good Friends" is one for which I've been kicking lyrics around for quite a bit. Difference is I've leaned towards the orchestral arrangement that was done for a concert somewhere along the line, instead of using the "music box" version. It's also definitely one I'd want to put in this sort of Romance/Sad Song bit (so hold off on doing it if you can ). My concern for that track is only that I would like to have Pixietricks to sing part of-the version in my head is sort of call/answer- it if she would be available and willing to lend her talent. I imagine it would be a lot of work, but that doesn't bother me. I'm sort of a producer at heart, so I'm going at supplying a vision and then letting talented people go to town. I don't think there'd be as much of an issue with differing opinons regarding style because the tone of the project would dictate most of how the music comes out, simply because it'd be difficult to do say, a romance in something like techno or heavy metal. Not impossible, but it probably wouldn't work as well as something like an orchestral arrangement. And I'm not opposed to large track lists so long as people are producing quality and in a reasonable timeframe; I don't have a set number in mind. I didn't realize there were quite so many projects on the table though. I'll give it a shot again in a few months when some of the current stuff finishes off. Thanks for the input though, and if anyone does want to work on this in a few months when things clear out a bit, please PM me as a heads up. I'll keep an eye on the thread too for music suggestions.
  10. I would like to point out I use the term "Best of" extremely loosely. Kind of like those silly infomercials throw it around with regard to music collections...just so nobody gets into a debate about which song is the "best" anything.
  11. So, I was thinking today (yes, always a dangerous thing I know), and I came up with two different, yet related, potential Remix Projects. And, before I started investing the effort into bribing and arm twisting remixers and admins into coming on board, I wanted to check on a few things, the first obviously being whether or not someone had already tried/managed to do what I'm about to suggest. Here's the idea. I'm wondering if it wouldn't be interesting to do the best of video game romance/sad songs. Normally, I would say it would be best to split them up into two different projects, except that there's some considerable overlap there. The idea would be to give most of them vocals and lyrics expressive to the game and situation surrounding their origin, but some could work with instrumentals as well, obviously. So, the first question is simply: has it already been done? My second question is more of a solicitation, I'd like to see what tracks you think would be most appropriate for something of this nature. It should be a wide range of romantic themes and "sad" songs, or simply music that can conceptually be framed that way, like Lover Reef was. I imagine "Game Over" themes would play a large part in the sad songs bit. I've actually been kicking around lyrics for Marle's theme from Chrono Trigger for a while, for example. And lastly, would anyone actually be interested in working on such a project?
  12. This came out pretty well I think. My only criticism is that there were a few that I thought were great and intricate musical works...but had little to do with their original counterparts. Those few seemed to either bury the actual theme or alter it enough so as to be mostly unrecognizable. That was kind of disappointing because some of the tracks guilty of this are some of the best from the original score. Even so, those pieces were really well done. My personal favorite is Hydrocity, but there are quite a few tracks in that list that I find fantastic. I also wanted to mention that I was pleasantly surprised by Kanjika's take on Hidden Palace and Sky Sanctuary; it was both unexpected and very well executed. Overall, a good job by all involved.
  13. Sorry...just couldn't bear to read all 164 of those pages, so I may or may not be doubling up. I'm going to go with Judge Doom from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Even cheating I never beat him. Using all the weapons you could take like half of his life away and then you have to beat him to death with that lameass punch thing.
  14. Hmm, well, although I'm new around here I'll see if I can post something about this that's worth reading. Here's my four cents (because two is never enough): There have been lots of complaints about voices and missing parts and people saying it was great given the short time etc. ad nauseum. I love Pixie's voice (she's cute too ). I have all the the Chrono Symphonic mixes, and the To Far Away Times one is by far my favorite just for that reason. And that kind of vocal quality can easily break other things (like overshadowing another singer) or ruin a piece for some if it's not up to snuff as some claimed. This mix sounds, to me, basically like a live jam, as though you had a bunch of random mismatched bands or musicians bored and hanging about the stage waiting for something or another, and they said, "hey, let's play something." It has that kind of quality. Everyone is trying to put their finger on just what is "off" about the mix, and I think that's why. Set your speakers to something like Concert Hall or Auditorium or something else with a bit of echo and you'll see how the whole thing just comes into focus with a more "live" feel. It reminds me of this Lynard Skynard/Metallica bit where they played "Tuesday's Gone" together on a whim. There are people jumping in at odd moments, and unpolished things everywhere, but it sounds great because it's not supposed to sound polished. It sounds like a bunch of people having fun and that's exactly how this mix sounds. So, I'd say fantastic job guys (and gal). I look forward to hearing more.
