  1. I've got a suggestion, though I dunno what the chances are of you finding it at your local Blockbuster or other chain video rental. Then again, this film was distributed in the US as well, so you might be able to... Public Enemy, and I'm not talking Chuck D. and Flava Flav. It's a Korean action/drama film, in which the intensity is nicely broken up in a very Hitchcock style (meaning: small bursts of comedy [and these actually tend to be funny] at appropriate times to keep you feeling said intensity). Really good film; I'd highly recommend it to all, and it seems to fit your criteria well. A lot of people are iffy about getting into foreign films, which is really too bad (I really doubt it's just because of having to read subtitles too) because of how much great stuff people miss out on if they don't watch non-US stuff. If you wanna get into Korean film, this is a highly accessible one to start with (the most common being My Sassy Girl, though since you said no comedies I won't recommend it to you in this case).
  2. That's how I felt for the most part playing through, in regard to wandering (when it came to getting to objectives, I didn't use the map and just kinda tried stumbling across where I should be). When I collected about 90% of items, though, I got to the point where I just wanted to beat the game and got slightly impatient looking for the last 10 items.
  3. Cool. Kinda wish they had this cd available when I went to VGL, instead of the crappy cd unrelated to the show they sold.
  4. Just outta curiousity, what sorta times are people getting in beating the game? I beat it in just over 21hrs (which felt like it included a lot of useless wandering), but I think my second playthrough will end up being a bit quicker even on a higher difficulty.
  5. Like he said. I'd be up for it, if for no other reason just to support the site. I'd opt for a blog myself, but my real interest would lie in seeing what the ReMixers are up to and whatnot. Anyway, overall a good idea. I think it'd be a wise investment, and I think $15 is a proper pricepoint for the reasons DJP stated.
  6. Yeah, you have to trade to be able to unlock all the extras. I think you need a total of 15 or so of the green ones (the ones you get from other people) to unlock all of it. I think you have to get 100% of items and scans to unlock the full ending. I just beat it last night, and today I'll probably start working on my second playthrough to collect the last 7 scans I missed (gonna try out Hyper Mode Difficulty and see how that goes during the Olympus sequence, and if that's too tough right now I'll bump it down to Veteran).
  7. lol, oh man, I dunno how I managed to miss even going to Bryyo Fire just now! I was missing an item there too. Whew, that feels so much better to have 100% of items now. Thanks a lot, Silverstar and Hylian Lemon! Now onward to beating the game!
  8. Hmm, that's what I was thinking, but looking at the Bryyo map I wasn't able to find the arrow. There's a good chance I'm just being stupid and overlooking it somehow (it should look just like the ones in, say, Pirate Homeworld right?), but does anyone happen to know what room the transport access to Bryyo Ice is or perhaps what room comes before that? Anyway, back to Pirate Homeworld in the meantime...
  9. 'Kay, I'm at 97% items and I can't find my last 3 items. I'm sure I missed an item in Bryyo Ice (the other items I have no idea since I have everything from the areas with maps, and had to gamefaqs to confirm I got all items from Valhalla [which I already had]), but I've been backtracking, trying to find it but to no avail. Are you only able to go to Bryyo Ice once? Btw who all beat it with 100%?
  10. Well, they denied making a 2D Metroid. [/hoping for another Metroid of any kind] Also, goodness people, stop the pointless arguing already. EDIT: Oops, beaten to it already.
  11. Small suggestion. From the Format Section, the 3rd bullet reads "Give your submission an original, creative title that is neither your own name nor the name of the original song." This is a little awkward: when I first scanned through this, I misinterpreted what you were saying about "your own name" and thought it referred to the submission title. I would suggest that you consider revising this, possibly even breaking up into two sentences. Rough example: "Give your submission an original, creative title. Do not simply keep the source track title or name it after yourself."
  12. Honestly, I agree but if they were to make a 2.5-D Metroid (whether it be on Wii or DS) I wouldn't complain. More Metroid > Less Metroid .
  13. Same here, lock on/free aim, is great IMO. Keeps the camera fixed on the general target, instead of you trying to lock onto specific areas of enemies which have multiple lock-on points but only one or two of which are weakpoints. More streamlined, IMO.
  14. Went to a Mariner's game last night with some friends, so didn't get to play it till I got back (which was pretty much when I should have started heading for bed, since I have to get up early for work every day). To put it mildly, it was well worth being a little tired today to play some Prime 3. Animations are ridiculously smooth and detailed, lighting and blur effects really went a long way, and it's just overall a damn pretty game. Of course, it's the controls that really set it apart. It took me several minutes to get used to it (since it was so much more responsive than the Red Steel controls, it actually pains me to make the comparison) but once I did, well, pure gold. It was a little different to see just so many NPCs, and for them to have voice acting. It was really cool, though how they executed this when you first get onto the station at the beginning and walk past characters who are talking with each other reminded me of Half Life. [Possible spoiler]Btw, the Phazite Lord or whatever it was called right at the end of the space station...well, all I can say is wow. Seemed like I didn't even get its life down to 3/4 and if it weren't for that scripted even, that would have been a long battle. Epic.[/Possible spoiler] I loved the little I've gotten to play thus far, and cannot wait to sink my teeth into this more later this afternoon. Btw, I had a funny thought and figured I'd share . I was talking with a friend as we were going to the M's game yesterday, and we were talking about Prime 3 and the reviews. She was saying in her opinion the only legit criticism she heard yet was that it's a sequel and all that, and I had brought up how many reviews seemed to bring up the same stupid "It's no Bioshock!" comments and how pretty much every Wii game gets a similar line in like every review ("these aren't 360/PS3-level graphics"). It made me think: so when these same people review 360 and PS3 games, are they as practiced as commenting, "Well, it doesn't control like a Wii game." Just seems to me like a double-standard, if you're going to compare the system the game is on to its competition if it's for Wii but not in reverse. Anyway, I'd love to see "It looks good, sure, but the control scheme is no Metroid Prime 3" in reviews for the next FPS on PS3 or 360.
  15. lol @ 1Up (who, I'm now suprised to say, didn't give Prime 3 the lowest score). Anyway, I can't say whether the game deserves better or worse than it's gotten from critics yet since I am going to pick up the game in 2 hrs. I'd imagine, though, that this should get a rating as high or higher than Twilight Princess, given everything I've heard so far. Btw, Megadave, that review of reviews was pure gold. Btw, dl'd Breath of Fire 2 last night. So far not bad. A little weird for me to be playing an RPG by Capcom. The sound effects especially sound like they're straight outta Mega Man X, which isn't a bad thing but it's just a little odd to hear them out of context. I would say I'm looking forward to playing more soon, but that probably won't happen till I beat Prime 3 once or twice.
  16. Oh, wow! That's insane, especially for Prime 2. Seems like if you really know what you're doing you need so few items. I could see not needing a lot of items like Spider Ball or Boost Ball in Prime, but that's amazing you can do without gravity suit and all. Man, this makes me wanna try out skipping that kinda stuff. EDIT: w00t, despite Amazon being stupid I'll get Prime 3 today after all. Got it paid for online and ready for pick up at my local Best Buy.
  17. To say the least . I think you need boost ball in order to get the seeker launcher no? There are other puzzles which also require the boost ball.
  18. Damn, my order got delayed at amazon by a week for some reason, so I'm gonna try going to a couple local Gamestops after work and hope they still have a copy left. UPDATE: Trying to get the game via Best Buy. Said online that it's available at my local Best Buy, so we'll see in the next 45 min if it's really available for in-store pickup.
  19. Personally, I found it relieving that even 1Up gave Prime 3 a good score (9/10), depsite their usually rampant Wii hate.
  20. Agreed, why do they even bother announcing ship dates anyway? It's a valid thing for stores to know, sure, but not terribly pertinent to the consumers unless a store is willing to break street date.
  21. I'd say that the one thing I really didn't care for in it was just how far you had to backtrack in some cases. For me, it didn't seem like it was quite to that extreme in Prime. Other than that, great game IMO. Personally, I liked Prime better than Prime 2 because of the atmosphere and general feeling.
  22. Hmm...you have a point. Let my comment, full of incite though it may be, stand as a reminder to whose who come after me, so that they might avoid the same mistake. EDIT: Oh no, it's too late!
  23. Yeah, I think that's the ship date. Regardless, I've had mine preordered for over a month, so I'm just waiting for amazon's confirmation that it has shipped. Really can't wait! Been playing Super Metroid and Metroid Prime 2 again in anticipation. Also, I know this isn't really the proper venue to request this, and that I haven't really heard much of the music yet, but Darkesword what are the chances we might be seeing a Metroid Prime 3 ReMix from you? Both your Prime and Prime 2 remixes were really great, and would love to hear you give more love to the Prime series.
