  1. There is no easy way to tell whether some material is illegal, unless you actually download it and try to open it. For an example, file names may be similar to copyrighted content, yet may not actually be an infringement. One situation where this did happen was a few years ago with a Penn State professor being sent a lawsuit threat by the RIAA over a song called "usher.mp3" or something similar, when his last name was Usher (or first?), and the song turned out to be an original song. There was a lot of outrage in the department he was a part of over the RIAA, and they advocated for something to be done about the intrusive methods used in the pursuit of copyright infringers. A filename alone does not entail infringement necessarily.
  2. Sounds like St. Louis is looking like the popular choice - any particular day or set of days would work for you guys? Also, I totally vote for a BBQ & maybe some other stuff like ultimate!
  3. Oh, I forgot to mention about: cp_ironbowl_b8 - interesting design, not completely sure how I think of it. Blue has an easy backdoor flank against Red though on the last cap...
  4. I can't, May 8th I'm proctoring a final.
  5. Here are some of my thoughts on some of the maps we played. cp_roundhouse_1_2d - I feel like it's too easy to defend on that map...the rape poured freely when we were attacking . ctf_highlands_b2 - a bit smallish, excepting the expansive middle area...not so much a fan of it. Arena_Greek_v1 - could be interesting with a bunch of people, seems alright for an arena map. pl_waste_b4 - seems alright, it'd be nice to get a game with a good deal of people on that map though (two way pl map). cp_resonance_b8 - I like it a lot; it seems to offer a good deal for every class and would be a solid map to play. ctf_staging_A11 - I liked it the first time we played it, and the second time was just as good to me. I altered the map cfg file for this to end after 2 rounds, which I think is wise because of the brokenness in overtime. arena_dailydozen_a2 - pretty fast-paced arena map, nice map. pl_jungle_a1c - pretty killer on the resources...but has the potential to become a solid map. Supposedly there are going to be 3 stages, so the version we played was far from complete. cp_smbcastle2 - not a fan of it, plain and simple. dm_quake_castle_b2 - kind of a silly map, perhaps I'll alter the cfg for it to be 5 minutes. pl_terran_b1 - pretty huge amount of walking. Seems too easy to attack, excepting the last point, and has a few glitches like Red team not being able to get out as soon as setup starts. tc_meridian_b5 - another map that could be interesting with a good deal of people, it's somewhat reminiscent of hydro, but it is different in a bunch of ways. pl_woodland_b4 - thought it was a nice map, but a bit easy for defenders IMO cp_generator_b2 - thought it was a solid map, although there seemed to be some mixed reviews on that one.
  6. I'd love to go to the all star game, but unfortunately I'll be just getting back from a canoe trip.
  7. I don't have anything against Notre Dame...it's just that I've seen some really crazy fans online.
  8. The server was restarted twice yesterday, so we ended up never getting to a CTF map - we kept going through dustbowl, hydro, and badwater, with a rtv to goldrush once.
  9. Well the UIUC suggestion was more of an informal one for those of us who live here, not really a meetup per say. For a meetup, a city like Chicago would probably be more fun.
  10. Well, looks like there are a couple of us at UIUC...any feel like meeting sometime for anything? I got a 50" TV in my apartment with all 3 current gen consoles here...or we could do something like go out for Papa Dels.
  11. Nothing wrong with following the school team...but yeah, I meant the super delusional ones out there as referred to here:
  12. Well, it's not like I get 0 fun out of this all myself . I figured that how I handle reserved slots is pretty loose as it is, so I might as well make this standard and encourage more regulars who know who they're gaming with. Donations of course are still welcome!
  13. So I'm thinking that ditching an OCR only night and just maintaining a custom night or two a week, or maybe having one custom night and one special rotation night, is the way to go. Thoughts? Also I've come to the decision to make reserved slots free for anyone who's a regular and requests one from me. Donations are optional, but it'd be great if people want to make them to me - the server costs ~$25/month to run, hlstatsx included...which reminds me of something else, there was a little interest in having the stats reset again at some point soon. What are the thoughts on that? And so, Wednesday seems like a great day for custom night at the very least. Here's my proposed rotation for the day: cp_piratelife_b3 ctf_2fort_night2_b2 pl_swift_final cp_roundhouse_1_2d ctf_highlands_b2 Arena_Greek_v1 pl_waste_b4 cp_pacman_wtf_normal cp_resonance_b8 ctf_staging_A11 arena_dailydozen_a2 pl_jungle_a1c cp_smbcastle2 cp_generator_b2 dm_quake_castle_b2 pl_terran_b1 cp_rivers_edge_b5 tc_meridian_b5 cp_devilsbrew_final pl_woodland_b4 cp_yukon_rc pl_cashworks_b3a cp_aqua pl_zig_b8 cp_ironbowl_b8 arena_storm_b1c cp_blackmesa Also remember to download the maps ahead of time if possible - it will save you downloading headaches when the map switches, and it will help other people out who haven't downloaded them.
  14. I'm game for any time after May 15th or so. Incidentally, my birthday is June 2nd, although that's a weekday, and shouldn't really mean anything as far as meetup dates are concerned.
  15. Depends really. VGL DC lasted from Friday to Sunday afternoon, but part of it was that a lot of us knew each other well, and we had a BBQ on Saturday afternoon. MAGFest lasts like 4 days, but...that's MAGFest. A lot of meetups are like 1 - 1 1/2 day affairs, the spillover being from spending the night at someone's place and having brunch the day after. I have to say though, if we do something in Chicago, people will have to give suggestions on what to do, because I don't know Chi-town that well.
  16. Are you one of those deluded ND football fans or just a normal one?
  17. I'm game for any of those dates, although they are weekdays...which may affect others. It'd also be nice to know if anyone in the Chicago area itself would be willing to host.
  18. But it is important because how the regulation is done is just as important, if not more, than just curbing something wrong.
  19. Because those so called "victims" have been guilty of cartel behavior in the past (found guilty in courts), and continue to infringe upon legitimate business approaches in order to continue that cartel behavior. It is relevant because they commit the far greater wrong.
  20. They probably mislabeled UIC that (Univ. of Illinois at Chicago).
  21. So seeing that midwest OCRers thread, would anyone be up for meetup in Chicago or St. Louis? Or even here where I am in Urbana, IL would be a possibility. I'd be up for one in May or June if there's interest.
  22. I'm at UIUC...so in Champaign-Urbana, 2 - 2 1/2 hours south of Chicago.
