  1. You know I've been listening to this every day for the last 5 days or so and even the way it is, I've become a pretty huge fan of this mix. I think I like the more mellow parts anyway so that may be why the overall lack of bass bothers me less than others.

The ending still throws me off though, I'm still expecting it to kick back into the upbeat part one more time before it ends, but then it just ends. Anyway I have high hopes for this one, great stuff and would love to hear another take if that's where you decide to go with this.

I'll have a new update within the week. Added more bass, a whole other part on the end, and some main instrument changes. Sit tight!

  2. I really like where this is going. The concept is very unique, and the Memories of Green cameo at the end was cool. One thing though, turn down the volume of the shakers a bit; they can get a bit tiring to the ears. Also, make sure the main instrument in the second half (the part without the melody and just chords) can be heard over the other percussion.

    Great job so far!

  3. All I can say is it needs more bass. There's so much on the higher frequencies and the bottom is just neglected.

Really? Hmm... I've listed to the song on three different sets of speakers (including my built-in iMac speakers) and it sounds adequate to me. I just tried upping the bass, and it makes the whole song sound muddy. Any more takes on this?

  4. O.M.G. Dude, I've had the WIP version of this FOREVER, and just today I was thinking, man, I wish I remembered who did this; I want to hear the finished version. I'll take this time to say this is the best SOTF mix I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot of them. Great work!

Btw, I actually just posted my SOTF mix on the forums today. Have a listen: http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=16372

  5. At first I didn't recognize it, but I did eventually! Definitely a different direction. I really like what you have here, and it all sounds like one giant improvisation, which in this case is a good thing. Very epic feel, and I like how your percussion emphasis is more on the higher end of things; this is very similar to the original in that regard.

Very nice work so far -- excited for updates!

  6. I think its leaning towards too liberal, but I'd still be fairly confident about submitting this. The overall soundscape and production is very intricate and interesting, and the original additions are very cool. New outro is sweet :D.

I can picture this creating a judgewar, all the moar reason to sub plz.

Haha, sweet . Anyway, I'll submit soon; still waiting to hear back on my other mix I submitted last month. It's on the list to be judged. If rejected, I wouldn't mind applying that advice to this.

  7. I really like both of these. Steady Nature is great, but I do think the main instrument is a tad sharp on the ears. Very good ambient feel to it. Huh is also great, and its more relaxing than the first piece. Both are good chillout songs. Keep up the good work!

  8. now i recognize it...not one of the more memorable songs of FF7 IMO, but oh well, lol. I guess thats why I didn't recognize your remix ><

I'm quite ashamed to say... I never played FF7. Yes, I know, and yes, I will... that is if I can find a copy that's not through the roof in price. I just don't think it can match Chrono Cross and Xenogears, but we'll see...

Anyway, I added a little more to the song, and I just need to insert one more section. After that, I'll post another update.

  9. I'm kind of confused... Pretty much the whole song is the source; I guess it's not as recognizable as I'd thought. To me, this sounds more conservative, but I guess I got carried away. I mean, I guess you all are referring to the middle melody of the song that you want repeated. But, if you listen, starting at where the tempo changes, from about 1:23 to 2:23, is that same melody. I guess I'll repeat it one last time at the end.

I thought liberal mixes would be welcomed here *shrugs*. ;-)

  10. Liking the intro. Nice soundscapes as Rozo said. Beats are introduced well and fit the track. Haven't heard any direct source references so far, lots of subtle references though. Wtf tempo change, awesome. Hah, this is really taking off now.

Hrm, it was over half-way before I heard a melody that I could definately associate with the source tune. This might be an issue with the judges imo. Its extremely liberal so far. Awesome guitar solo there :D.

I must say, production wise, this is incredible. So many changes and transitions to different sounds pulled off well. In terms of interpretation we may have a problem, as its very liberal. The ending is also kinda meh, you could have done something similar to the intro instead of just switching off. Imo you should just go back over and add a few more direct takes from the source, especially in the first half, but thats just my opinion. Awesome stuff either way :3.

Thanks. Well, actually if you listen, I used the main two opening two chords of the original for much of the first half. The pitch was differentiated, so you may have to listen closely, but they're there. And yes, I realize I need to fix the ending. And the guitar solo wasn't me playing directly, I just did some mad EQing.
