  1. Um... don't the drums and bass have enough bass to fill it out? I didn't want to crowd the lower end. You might want to check your speakers. I could've sworn that there was a melody in there over the original. Or at least, I think. Lead? The whole song gets bitcrushed - its on the master. What do you mean moving along with other things? Confusing.
  2. To tell you the truth, this is an excellent idea. I generally have trouble vocalizing feedback, and this makes it simple. Just listen through a couple of times, check what applies, and add some other info at the bottom! Not hard at all! And if you don't want to use the form, then you can simply reference it for things to listen for. It seems to be a win-win situation either way. And I'm pretty sure that people, if they're posting a WIP Thread, can handle feedback, formal or otherwise. Its not as if they will be offended or scared. I'd be thankful if someone did such an in-depth review of a song of mine!
  3. Interesting track. Intro really emphasizes the nice fuzz on the drums. The drums do feel a bit pushed to the back. I liked the stereo effects, but I feel like its a bit unbalanced towards the left ear... Try to put a counter synth to the right, so it evens out the stereo field. Nice synths and effects. Eerie, and the organ does a great job of setting the mood. I could see a Theremin fitting well in here. Yeah, I can see the C&C influences here. I would've liked a drum break midway... the drums do a good job of changing up, but I wish that it would stop somewhere, for a light break, or a bridge to a second part. Overall, nice song! Quite interesting. Keep it up!
  4. Updated again... Now with stunning new features! Like... KEY CHANGES!! Ooohhh... and reverb on the snare!! Enjoy, I hope its getting closer XD
  5. Hm, I didn't think they clashed too much. I'll try and adjust. Meh, they're 909 samples. I'll add some compression to phatten them up a bit, and see if it helps at all. Since you've heard it, that probably means its a good length for keeping interesting, without going overboard. I'll see what I can do on that end. The source is 3/4, so its been hard to incorporate! Thanks for the quick response!
  6. I've updated it. Check the original post for the link, or go to http://navij11.com/owl_lozla.mp3
  7. Yeah, its for a site where time is limited. If I was going for a full length track, I'd do that, and then make another drop, and another "ending", par to Drum and Bass structure. Hm. I'll consider that. I don't want to add too much, or I'd risk losing the loudness it has now. And loudness is a good thing. I'll see how some effect stabs would fit with the overall theme Yeah, that's the problem. The bass has a significant low end, and there IS a big sub down there. Try listening on headphones or nice speakers, it will definitely show. I will take a look at the EQing, though. Thanks for the feedback!
  8. Love that first pad. Swelling, doesn't feel a lot like drum and bass, but nice anyways. Needs to be more gritty. I like that lead. Bass not so much. The stabs seem a bit basic. They work fine now. I want to see how this is gonna progress, and what it will come to. Lots of blending melodic work... very unlike drum and bass. I'm starting to get the feeling that there is no build.... oh wait. Piano, again unlike drum and bass (unless you're Geier). Hm. Again with the sidestick. So yeah, its pretty simple. Try to make a heavier snare. Add distortion, compression, etc. The upper synthwork was nice, but the reese (bass) is pretty simple. You should listen to some modern drum and bass. Check out Spor's Lifted Music Podcast. Search for it on iTunes, or listen: http://podcast.liftedmusic.com/podcast/Lifted_Music_Show_003_-_Spor_and_Chris_Renegade.mp3 That's show 3. Once you get a good idea of what drum and bass is, try and tweak your track to fit. I like the concepts here, and the melodies are nice, but its not drum and bass.
  9. http://virb.com/navdnb - that's the link. Click "Nav - Demo Song." I need it to be as perfect as it can before I can call it done. So, for now, comments on mixing, synths, etc. None on mastering yet, as I will master once I get a perfect (or decent) mix. Thanks for checking it out guys!
  10. http://www.zophar.net/download.php?file=gbs/zelda.zip - Original Soundtrack http://navij11.com/owl_lozla.mp3- Remix WIP So guys, here I am with another WIP. This one is house, very deep! Listen for the sub! It was heavily influenced by Daft Punk, but a lot of that influence doesn't really show up in the track! I think its nice, I'm just looking for a bit of advice, as its a bit short, and feels somewhat incomplete. The source is tiny, so you might miss its usage (though you shouldn't). Its also in 3/4, so I needed to adapt. I seem to do a lot of remixes with 3/4 sources, considering that my last one (that Kirby one) was too. Anyways, I'm looking for opinions, and advice about: Additional instruments/FX? Arrangement? Mixing? Whatever else you feel like talking about? I'm not gonna hold you up with my blabber much longer! Take a listen, and tell me what you think! Thanks!
  11. Damn, I just started a Link's Awakening remix. Not any of the genres, but a remix of a song from it nonetheless. Ah well.
  12. Yeah, that's what I meant. Ok, cool! Ummm, I guess I start. I'll use that tiny midi then.
  13. I want to participate! Can I use a 2 second loop as the source? Pleeease? I want to use http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/gameboy/Z4sword.mid Oh, also: Am I allowed to resample?
  14. I'll take a listen... Opens a bit weak. Its not DJ Friendly, or listener friendly. Usually, its either a long ambient intro, or it opens to the kick. Whatever, I'll keep listening. Some generic trance synths here. The drums feel weak, don't really build some nice tension and release, like good trance does. Try building up to a grand finish! Making it really powerful, really energetic, so it breaks out, chills the listener, rocks the club floor etc. I don't know the original, but your synth and melodic work is nice, and it all flows together. The drums don't really function well, as tools, rather they seem to be left to the background. Try bringing them up more, and using them as tools for changing dynamics - contrast - to keep the listener interested. It was a bit short, especially for a trance song. I don't think 3 minutes is really enough to get a whole trance song across. It definitely wasn't bad. The synth work/melodic work was very nice! However, it could use some more work on the arrangement, and the usage of basic elements. Not bad!
  15. Well, I finished and submitted dat shiz. http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/123119 if you want to hear!
  16. I would totally go to that... I live in that area! Too bad I'm going to Boston on Saturday, and I'm too young... It would be REALLY creepy for me to show up there. Anyways, maybe next year.
  17. I've put the "final" version up. Post your "final" issues with it here. I'll go back and fix it, then the quotation marks will be removed! EDIT: Took out the Izotope Vinyl. It sounds better that way IMO. If you really like it with that, then say so and I'll put it back in. It was causing the static and fuzz.
  18. I can make it stereo, there is an option for it. I'll do that then.
  19. The melody is not from a source. Should it be? I'm not usually a fan of medleys, so I prefer to make my usual stuff. The noise at the track will be discussed below. Ok, I'll mess with it so its less repetitive. The guitar is only in there as an arp really, its not supposed to be varied as much, but I'll see what I can do! Yeah, that was really the point. The noise, the classic EQ plugins, the EQ changes... If you don't like it then I'll take it out, but I personally do like it. http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/vinyl/ is the VST I used. I'll upload a "clean" version, and you tell me if that's better. Its funny, because the noise spans through the whole song, you just can't hear it!
  20. I took all of your advice and uploaded a new version! Check it out!
  21. Yes, that is the title, and the game remixed. http://vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/wii/Ready.mid is the midi for it. Its the "Pose Mii: Ready?" theme from Wii Play. http://navij11.com/wii_remix.mp3 is my remix. It is supposed to be 80s styled, with the traditional DX FM Modulation Piano, breakbeats formed by layering old skool breaks, 70s String Machine Samples, Sampled Guitars, and Izotope Vinyl bringing it all together with old skool flare! Please leave some feedback! I feel like it could go somewhere! I am up for collabs if anyone has some BURNING ideas about where to take this Thanks! Edit: Forgot to mention that every effect was using the "Classic Series" plugins, which provide LOTS of warmth! I thought you should know that!
  22. Listening... I've heard a lot of drum and bass, so I know Pendulum pretty well. That snare is not doing it for me, it needs way more punch, and there's also that little thing that only Pendulum can do with snares. The kick needs more punch too, the main elements of the break should be kick and snare, with the hats in the background. I was expecting a phat reese, as the bass, but the bass here didn't really do it for me. A good atmosphere was established, but there was no phat reese, the existing bass is thin and all over the place. Keep it simple, add more modulation and distortion to make it huge. No sub here, and there should be a sub. Overall, I feel that this song has potential, you just need to tighten everything up, phatten it up, compression and distortion are your friends! Hope this helps
  23. Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I got that beginning echo fixed. Variation-wise, it was meant to be more of a "drift-off" kind of song rather than a song meant to be actively listened to. I hope you know what I mean. I guess I could add maybe a panning lfo or two to spice it up a bit! Also, Omni Trio is actually a single person! Weird, I know. The crash, eh? I guess I can turn it into a fade-out instead. I hope they don't say it's too repetitive. I'm going to submit this, with the edits you guys mentioned. Thanks for the help! Edit: http://media.putfile.com/Nav---Kirbys-Mystical-Mirror is the final submission.
  24. Can I have some feedback on this? It is intelligent drum and bass/jungle. A major influence was Omni Trio, with his style of break and chords. My main issue was how the melody was in 3 bar phrases, and I needed to convert them to 4 bar. After that, the remix and my own melodies seamlessly combine. Feedback is really appreciated. I usually get rejected, for one reason or another, but this time, before I submit, I want to know what you guys think. http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/gba/mirror_opening.mid - The midi. http://media.putfile.com/Kirby-and-the-Amazing-Mirror---Opening - The remix. Thanks guys!
