  1. I was going to post that there'll be a surprise track in the show but maybe you can guess from whom it is! Just 1.5 hours to go! And I have a cats' toilet to wash!
  2. The show is just few hours away! Four, to be exact. Here's the official blog blurp: https://www.radiosega.net/shows/blog/sega-mixer-drive/2014/10/17-october-2014-smd-quest-rpg-night/ Don't to forget to join the IRC chatroom! https://www.radiosega.net/community/chat/
  3. I have a start. I wanted to reimagine the tune as a 80s/90s side-scrolling shooter theme. I am failing.
  4. Congrats to the winners! And another round to our first timers Grauw & Mushroom Sword, you both debuted very impressively. Hope to see you around! Since the turnout was so good, and the quality quite high, I had a crazy-ish idea: what would you people think of finishing the tunes / polishing them up, bundling them together to an EP, and submitting it to OCR for an OCR-I release? "Earthworm Jim: Use Your Head - The EP"
  5. I love that idea for Wood Man. I've had something similar in mind for it. I definitely want to hear it. Also, yay for deadline! I like that it's not too far away. ..I really need to work on my track. I have my plate full with other stuff right now though.. can I have until December for an update?
  6. Thanks for the links. I'm definitely going to give another look to that. I'm taking a break from the tune to be more able to kill my darlings. To get a bit of distance to be a bit more objective. The FC3 version will be on the Sega Mixer Drive show tomorrow!
  7. Excellent, looking forward to that. I took a listen to the updates on the project forums. I didn't have the energy to comment yet, but it's definitely solid stuff all around, constantly solidifying! This album is looking to be rock hard. Titanium hard. haarrrdd
  8. I was thinking of going to the opposite direction: kill the swing feel and go strict 4/4. That's one reason I'm worried it won't be that M-n-P.
  9. That's a good-looking lineup for sure. hehe "flexprt" I kinda hope you get more New SMB claims, that's the only Super Mario game I've beaten (I just realized).
  10. I'm assuming it's the same as in previous rounds with several sources: you need to use either of the tracks, but you're an extra cool person if you combine them both. But that will not necessary earn you more points, unless a voter thinks it's a deciding factor for themselves. Cool sources both! Personally I have to slow down with all the music making though..
  11. The reason Amiga MODs would have hard-panned drums would be that two of the four channels available are panned hard left, two panned hard right. Thanks for the answer! The game over theme project sounds good. I have at least one WIP I could finish for it too.
  12. WE'RE DONE! We set out to honour the soundtrack of the Shining Force II in time for its 20th anniversary of the NA release, and we have done it! So many thanks to everyone who stepped up to help out! There were also many who wanted to join in but couldn't - thanks for their support too and I hope you all can catch the SEGA RPG SPECIAL on Sega Mixer Drive! Rexy's show this Friday is all about the Sega RPG series and this is where our tribute will be featured. 13. Huh, never thought about this. I do toy around with the pitch of (electronic) drums but not in the sense of tuning, just the sound. I guess I'll pay attention to them toms from now on though.
  14. This sounds pretty good! I remember the soundtrack preview, and I enjoyed that. No deadline yet? edit: Ah, release is in December, so I guess well before that?
  15. Heyah, it's deadline day! You have basically 12 hours to finish up and send me the tracks. =) Rexy prefers 320 kbps MP3 as the format. Sooo.. yup. HoboKa's Devastation track is sounding mighty good, Audio Sprite was already asking where to send his Wandering Warriors track, my Castle theme (with an unsurprise guest) is sounding quiiite badass (a chunk of work to be done still), Esperado is working on his chillout take on Water Goddess Mitula.. and there may be more to come! I'm super excited for the Sega Mixer Drive show this Friday. The SFII isn't quite going to take over the whole show, but Rexy has a fitting theme for the show: Sega RPGs! I'm certainly looking forward to that & I hope lots of you can join in as well, or at least check the podcast later!
  16. I have pledged to enter so I will, and I think I have an idea for the approach. edit: Though it might not me quite fitting for M-n-P, I'll have to see.
  17. Good stuff once again.. so many thanks! I've massaged the EQ & levels of leads & the arp once again, and adjusted the writing, so that whichever lead is the support lead will (hopefully) not step in the way of the other. Then in the final repeat of the "chorus" they both play as a duet, but (hopefully) adjusted so that they compliment each other. FC3 2014/10/10
  18. final candidate 2: FC2 2014/10/10 Some love for the levels, EQ and vibrato for the leads + arp; bass drum filtering & fills & stuff. I'd like to think I'm done, shout if you hear anything funny! (esp. the bass drum) I still have no other name for this than "Force Techno".. any ideas?
  19. I have a start! edit: I've uploaded it, since I'm not sure I have more time before deadline.
  20. Less than a week to go! If you're able to whip up something quick... doooo iiit! We're pretty good on target, got a bunch of good tunes & I'm happy, and another bunch in the works, should be good. I need to find the time for a couple of tunes.. yeah! Here's something I want so share: Txai did cool Shining Force II homage with the game's instrument set, and it's beautiful, cool, original and yet would fit very well in the game. Here, - there's a download link too in the description.
  21. How cool to learn about OCR's importance to Ben & his previous submissions to the site. I love FTL & its soundtrack, and the similarities are definitely there. This is a cool arrangement, and I enjoy the emphasis on percussion. The track does fade out before it concludes, though, that is definitely how I feel. I also agree that the low-mid range sounds a bit muddy. Loved the atmosphere though, and the way the piece develops. Looking forward to more OCR submissions from mr. Prunty!
  22. FWIW I'm not trying to adhere to any chiptune standard or ethos, these are just the sounds that happened to come together. I think the use of the C64 sounds is somewhat unorthodox (at least some of them), there's effects from the DAW on them, plus the kick and pad (the 0:10 sound you liked) are not from C64. So no worries in suggesting stuff that'd take it away from the C64 sound. Yeah, I can get behind the stuff you listed, and I believe I have some ideas for all your points. I'll try some low & high passing the bass drum occasionally, maybe swap the sample in places. I'll bring up the clap/snare, automate the arp EQs and with the dual lead stuff bring one of them to front at the time & put the other to the background. Thanks!
