  1. So opening up, I will say that I like the way you've handled the sources. Creative stuff.

There are a few issues with the production. The drums are unbalanced, the cymbals are too loud and the snare and kick are too quiet. Its a bit of an issue with this style because there is no metallic thumping that is kinda a big trademark of this sound. The synths are also slightly weak compared to the crunching guitars.

Performances are mostly great, the guitars are very solid! I am less sold on the vocals however... I just don't feel like you've quite put enough into them. Its a hard thing for me to describe because I can't comment on melodic aspects but there feels to be a lack of... drive? Its almost like you're casually screaming, rather than REALLY going for it. Not sure if that was your intention, but it comes out slightly flat as a result.

Finally, we reach the rap. The section itself is great, well executed with a good performance and nice production. However, for something like that to work, you need one hell of a transition, and you don't really have one. Its a shame because its a great idea, but the flow stops dead without a good transition to keep the flow going.

I like what you're going for here, the lyrics are amusing, the sources are handled nicely and the performances are great, but there are some issues with execution as well as production problems that hold this one back.

    Sorry guys! :(

  2. NO! GREEDO SHOT FIRST! IT IS KNOWN. EVERYONE KNOWS. EVEERRYONE. GAWD.

Ok so the atmosphere and build up in the intro are great. The piano when it comes in at 0:53 feels a little dry and at odds with the soundscape that had been building up for almost a minute tho. I also felt that one or two of the variations felt a little... unnatural to me, probably due to me being so familiar with the source tune. The drums are well written when dealing with the time sig change from the source, so props there. I do enjoy the sound design and the mixing, and I dig the feel, even if the production has a bit of a roughness - It seems to lack clean "shine" to the mixing but the murky textures work here imo.

This is an example of a track that imo is more than the sum of its parts and I can totally dig it.

Its not going to change lives but its a nice and fitting tribute to a great game.

    I like it!

    GREEDO I mean yes

  3. Looking over the submission guidelines for music, one of the required pieces of information is my remixer name. I'm considering deleting this account and creating a new one with my real name (Kevin North) and then submitting music under my name. Is this acceptable, or does OC Remix prefer I use a pseudonym?

You don't have to submit music under your username. Your username and your artist name can be completely different if you want. Also, you can use your real name if you wish. Plenty of OCR Artists do that.

  4. Ok, so to start off with, I find that opening chord sequence a little odd because the mode changes on that last chord in a slightly unnatural way which sounds a little odd.

The opening electronic drums have a too exposed hihat, and while the transition to the acoustic kit is a little jarring, I do like the sound of the acoustic more. The lead that enters at 0:35ish is nice, its a little too dry tho.

I like the breakdown with Turbo Mans theme, but when the drums come back in at 1:15, the thin samples serve undermine the energy of your track imo. I have to admit, I do enjoy the variations on display here.

I really like 1:50 - the chords are really cool :)

The second breakdown is cool, but the acoustic guitar is notiably fake during this section.

Its curious to me how what should be a cool transition at 3:05 is slightly jarring, I'd say try and smooth out the dynamic contrast as you make that transition to make it flow a little better. I love the writing tho. Another jarring transition at 3:25ish with a piano that sounds slightly rigidly sequenced.

I have to say, I love the ending. Again, the transition to the ending (probably the least creative and most jarring yet) isn't great, but the material after the transition is great imo.

I think this is a very promising remix, but it just needs a little more TLC. The writing of the individual sections are great, but the samples, sequencing and transitions bring this one down.

Resub it and send it back plz! :D

  5. So I'm sure many of us were into VGM Remixes before we found OCR - and then when we found it, heard that one track that made you go "hey I know this one! This is OCR? I thought it was legit/SOAD/whatever"

    So i'll start!

http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR00986 - Rayzas Green Hill Zone Remix. This one was uploaded in quite a few youtube videos back in the day, and I thought it was a offical released remix by the original composers or something. McVaffes IceCapped was another one I was aware of before OCR for the same reasons.

So, which tracks from OCR did you know before you knew about OCR itself?

  6. I thought that "no head starts" was already a rule... Guess not.

Oh, wait. Never mind, I thought that because you had told us to not begin mixing when you had announced that the first round's song would be Safety Dance before the sign up period ended.

It was already a rule. lol

I'm just enforcing it since it apparently needs to be said, even if I haven't announced what the track is yet :P

  7. I have a feeling that he anticipated the song for this round to be "Can You Feel The Love Tonight"

I think Kristina realised that. But it seems he attempted to get a head start but then got annoyed when his plan backfired.

For future reference guys, no "head starts" please. I'm not even sure how you'd make your audio fit with the backing track without seriously altering your performance, which is against the nature of the compo.

  8. *ROUND 4 BEGIN*

I Feel Love by Donna Summer

Here is the song on Youtube

Here is the link to the backing track (Key Signature: C Major)

You have till Sunday 1st June 5pm EST to submit your track.

Please check the first post for rules, and do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions! :D

And last but not least - LYRICS:

Ooh it's so good, it's so good

It's so good, it's so good

    It's so good

Ooh I'm in love, I'm in love,

I'm in love, I'm in love

    I'm in love

Ooh I feel love, I feel love

I feel love, I feel love

    I feel love

    I feel love

    I feel love

Ooh fall and free, fall and free

Fall and free, fall and free

    Fall and free

Ooh you and me, you and me

You and me, you and me

    You and me

Ooh I feel love, I feel love

I feel love, I feel love

    I feel love

    I feel love

    I feel love

    I feel love

    I feel love

  9. Yeah i'm in the too liberal camp. There are points where I can here the source in the vibs. There are some minor tuning issues in the bass I think, but the performances are good imo. I am going to give a bit of credit that the source is clearly in here imo - the chords are there and the source melody is in the vibs - the problem is they are in the background. If the trumpet had any source connections at ALL i'd be much happier, but I'm just not convinced the source is dominant enough. It feels like its a liberal remix being solo'd over.

Sorry, I really like this but I just don't think the connection is quite there.
