  1. Alright. From what I've heard of gabber and happy hardcore and similar genres, this is above average i.e. "good" for the genre. However, WHILE REMAINING OPEN-MINDED WHEN IT COMES TO ALL GENRES, what I think we have to take into account here is that certain musical genres are inherently less conducive to fulfilling OCR's requirements of production and arrangement. Certain genres are going to inherently favor verbatim repetition more than others, reuse of the same riff ad infinitum, etc. The cheesiness of the high-pitched vocal samples here, and the spastic, repetitive riffs and late key change all seem to me to be hallmarks of the style, indicators of competent arrangement and not "mistakes" or in (relative) poor or misguided taste. However, it's entirely plausible and possible that not every last genre is going to regularly yield results the panel (or myself) are cool with, based on our criteria. Hypothetically, if a musical genre involved nothing but a sitar playing the same note and someone smashing their head with a rock, in rhythm, we wouldn't be close-minded or biased in rejecting mixes in that genre. It's an extreme example, but... the same holds true for Gabber and happy hardcore imo - only the best of the best of the best might be satisfactory to fill production and arrangement requirements, and even then it might be because those mixes color outside the lines and twist the genre(s) itself beyond its traditional boundaries. This is good stuff - an improvement over the vast abundance of happy hardcore & gabber mixes we've received to date. However, given the repetition, both sonic and compositional, inherent to the genre, I still don't think it's "there". It's not being close-minded or genrebiased to assess as objectively as possible the inherent qualities of a given genre and make decisions accordingly, and my decision here would thus be a No.
  2. When the original is already a waltz to begin with, while this remains an admirable reinstrumentation to solo piano, there's not enough going on to make it interesting, in my opinion. Solo piano mixes don't have to make many choices about instrumentation, and involve generally fewer choices when it comes to production/mastering, and so the largest area to really shine in is performance and arrangement. The latter, in this case, isn't creative enough when compared to the source, and while the performance is generally fine, there are some areas where I'd concur with Jesse in things sounding a bit plunkish/mechanical. I think it's less a timing issue and more a dynamics one, as the tempo DOES fluctuate, but regardless of the cause, I can hear the symptom. That blad can do better is obvious, however we need to ignore the mixer's past, superior submissions and analyze this in a vacuum. However, even anonymously, given the original was already a fairly similar waltz, I don't see enough substance. No.
  3. I agree with Gray and analoq on the two major issues. If the ReMixer is unable or unwilling to resubmit, I''ll vote, but I'd prefer we hold out for an answer. Those two things being addressed would largely remove my hesitation in approving this mix.

  6. Hi, I have some remixes ready for submission. This is my first submission, so here's my info: ReMixer name: Aaron Burr Real name: Aaron Burr Email address: aburr918@hotmail.com Website: http://www.aaronburrdesign.com Userid: 32992 Name of game(s): Uniracers, Mega Man X, Killer Instinct Name of individual song(s): Uniracers Main Theme, Sting Chameleon, KI Main Theme in B Minor Links to the Remixes: My comments: For these songs I used the program MixCraft for recording and mixing. The instruments you hear (rythm and lead guitar, bass) were all played by myself, however, for the synthesized drums I used a program called Hammerhead. I chose these particular songs to remix because I thought they were guitar friendly, and when played live, just sounded cool. The video game versions, compared to my remixes, are a bit tame in my opinion, which is why I opted for a grittier sound. The major difference between my version of the Killer Instinct theme and the original is that I switched from E minor to B minor. This was actually an accident, but I decided to stick with it for originality. _________________________________________________________________ Don’t just search. Find. 7. Majeliss majeliss@gmail.com Remixed: Pokemon red/blue Wild pokemon battle theme -- This is a Goa/Psytrance remix of the battle theme of wild pokemon. It may sound like this remix has less of the original theme in it, but if you know the battle theme well, the original melody plays throughout the whole remix. I hope you OCR Judges like Goa/Psytrance or just this submission ^__^ -- Blessed be
  8. Greetings! Yep, it's been quiet from me for a while; been working on an album and DVDs and stuff. But, to celebrate the release of my new and improved www.mazedude.com, I have taken some time to put together some sweetness for the fans... and per the popular request, I have made a Doom 2 mix, yet again. Plus, all the killer Doom mixage from the Dark Side of Phobos kinda inspired me too. Title: "The End of Hell" Remixer: Mazedude Game: Doom 2 System: PC Original Composer: Bobby Prince And the description and all that is on By the way, you'll notice that Ailsean provided some rhythm guitar for me - but he and I have both agreed that there's no need for a remixer credit on his end, since I did everything else. So just leave it as "by Mazedude," and if people want to learn more about the mix they can read about Ailsean's involvement on my website. Or you could hint at it in the write-up. But there's no need to create an "Ailsean, Mazedude" section or anything. If you want to verify this with him, it's ailsean@oneupstudios.com. Enjoy the gothic industrial madness! 9. Hi I'm a new member of OC Remix and here's a remix I've written: Download link for remix: ----- Personal Info ------ Name: "cyberseth" [ Seth Jeffery ] Email: cybersethxp@hotmail.com Web: www.muscle-power.net ------ Song Info ------ Title: "Unsent Flames" Original: "Wandering Flames" from Squaresoft's FFX ------ Comments ------ Well, as the first remix that I've submitted I haven't a lot to say, only that I hope it goes down well, heh. I used Cubase SL 3 and a selection of various soft synths and samplers. The whole song, like the original, is really held together by the warm chords, but I added a nice swung beat to keep the pace moving. Didn't have my sax or clarinet handy so I mainly used EP and sampled guitar sounds for the melody, as well as other bits and bobs. K that's all from me, hope you enjoy it! - Seth Jeffery
  10. Remixer Name: Kriko Game Remixed: Battle of Olympus (NES) Song Remixed: Theme Allright, here’s another remix of a song from the nintendo game Battle of Olympus. It is my second remix of a Battle of Olympus song, a game i really like. The creators really succeeded in creating this special ancient Greece feeling especially with the fantastic music and it’s very hard to recreate this. So this is more of a soft version of the intro theme. It’s made with Renoise with a simple collection of samples. Some of them have i recorded myself (the bass for example). I didn’t want to make a flashy tune with a lot of stereoeffects, fill-ins etc (however there are some but quite simple ones) so this is a simple, more of a harmonic song with no more than four melodic instruments (Lead, Harp, Bass and Piano) and this makes it quite soft. Here is link to the song. Scroll down the site and press “free” and wait 20 seconds then it will appear. Sorry for this. My email: dea138@hotmail.com Thank you.

  12. Pretty sweet imo... RAD TROMBONE LICKS - djp Right then, I apologize for the long delay, but the firewall on my college's campus is a pain when uploading files, but the file's back up. Not to mentione the fact that my mail server's acting crazy, so I have to send from this E-mail (origianl was theirishninja@red-scare.net) It'll still be up there when you have the time to check it. Here's the original message -- Remixer Name: The Vagabonds Website: www.the-vagabonds.com Game Remixed: Somic the Hedgehog 2 Song Remixed: Casino Night Zone Misc: I am Geoff Moonen, member of the OCR forums and member of the 15-piece Long Island band The Vagabonds (Our full official name is The Vagabonds: Ska-Core Jazz Ensemble). We've been together a little over a year, and just recently released our first CD. On it, we recorded our only cover, The rendition of Casino Night heard here. When we play it live, we play it one of two ways: either As you hear it here, except every single member of the band gets a solo (The song goes for about 7 minutes when we do that), or sans solos and it's just done as an intro to another song. We recorded this section by section. First rhythm (one guitar, bass, drums, congas, keyboard), then horns (alto, tenor and bari saxes, two trumpets, and two trombones). The solos in order are Tenor Sax, alternating trumpets, alternating trombones, guitar, Drum kit and congas alternating. Pretty much all of the solos were done in one or two takes. On the CD, the song is listed as "Casino Night Zone", but I made up the title because, to me, the song feels like the soundtrack to a weird and wild night in Vegas or Atlantic City, and you'll wake up the next morning with a bad headache. That's about it... the song's on our CD "...and Still Counting", which can be heard on our website. I hope you enjoy it! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 15. This ReMix is from the first "Clock Tower" game for SNES. It's not a remix of any particular song because all the tunes in the soudntrack seem to follow the same basic theme(s). I've never actually played the game, just DLed the soundtrack off zophar, so I made this track just imagining what it would be like... to be on the run from a homicidal maniac in a dark house. On with the itemized information! ReMixer name - nepsus real name - Price Colran Name of game(s) - Clock Tower Name of individual song(s) - Half of them Additional information - Well it's an SNES game published by ASCII and according to Zophar the music was made by Kouji Niikura hope I got the ID3 tags right cheers

  17. Akumajobelmont - Sonic 1 remix of Marble Zone i've entitled 'Marble Heart'. i don't think i need to send the source material:P Hey, it's Akumajobelmont here again. It's with great sadness that i present this latest arrangement... see, i had plans of doing an instrumental version of this track AND a vocal version of this track... but not 2 minutes ago did i accidently lose half of my data for the song, and therefore I'm unable to carry through with the vocal version as i had planned, which has broken my heart. Almost ironically now, do i present this original istrumental version of the track for submission. Sorry to all who were awaiting the vocal version... i'm just as heartbroken:( Well, onto my remix i guess. The Marble Zone theme has always struck me as unusually sad. Even moreso now. And when I decided to arrange the theme, i was in a pretty lonely place... it's easy to tell every one your fine, and even easier to flat out deny that there's anything wrong. So this mix comes from deep down. It's been arranged in the form of a melancholy chill mix. But the first thing i wanted to do with this mix was make everything sound odd. I wanted instruments such as the piano, for example, to definetly sound like it's intended instrument, but with a twist. To make it sound odd and slightly unnatural. I applied this method to all the instrumentation. Example again, the strings in the last section... i wanted to keep that beautiful String ensemble sound, but at the same time, i've worked them in a way so they sound otherwordly. So natural, yet slightly unnerving at the same time. The entire mix comes in waves... soft, to dramatic, a pause in the action, to a wave of sound, then back out again... The vocal clips in the intro and outro are taken from the original radio broadcast of War of the Worlds. Orsen Welles' delivery of these lines is immaculate and get right into the core of me, and i felt were a perfect fit with the track. Intro-ing with the piano (which i HEAVILY compressed to start the track off with an immediate feeling of oppression) and the quotes worked perfectly... and i am very proud of how well i handled the intro- to me, it's another thing i have yet improved on. Oh, and on the use of the quotes, I don't believe that any copyright's have been breached or anything, as i've used only a few lines, and even then they have been used sparingly. They are general lines and don't refer to anything specific. So yeah, i'm *very* happy with the way this mix turned out. It's a mix to cry to... i mastered it so it sounds like its all going on within your own head, and it's something different from my usual cheese-laden material. It was a healing experience creating this mix, so i can only hope it'll be just as moving to all who listen to it:D Thanks guys and i hope this gets onto the site. Cheers -Robbie (akumajobelmont)

  19. Email sub file Sonic_&_Knuckles_Assault_and_Battery_OC_ReMix.mp3 Hi, I'm submitting this for a friend, and it's his first. I have no other way of getting the file to you other than an attachment to this e-mail (sorry). If I understand correctly, this means you'll have to add the "exact remix ID assigned by djpretzel at time of posting" in the part of a set field on the ID3v2 tag (sorry again). I hope the previous is acceptable. Here is my friend's information: Contact Info: ReMixer name - t1m Real name - Tim Karplus E-mail - karplust@onid.orst.edu ReMix Info: Game - Sonic & Knuckles Song - Flying Battery Zone Act 2 Comments - I recorded multiple tracks of my electric guitar, keyboard, and bass, but with synthesized drums (can't do those myself unfortunately). The Flying Battery Zone soundtrack has to be my favorite from the Sonic series, and I'd listened to it enough to play it myself. However, because it was recorded in my bedroom and not remixed in my computer, it falls more easily to my own interpretation. I know this may turn some noses up, but I think it's enjoyable to the ears regardless. Thanks OC ReMix! Best regards, Caleb Cornelius for t1m
  20. Contact Info Remixer Name - DJ Riott Real Name - David Marriott Email address - david_dude_22@hotmail.com My website - http://www.acidplanet.com/dj_riott User ID - DJ Riott ReMix Info Name of Game Remixed - Harvest Moon Individual Song - Maria's Theme (Church) Original Soundtrack - http://www.vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/snes/HM_-_Maria's_Song.mid I never played Harvest Moon growing up, and wasn't even introduced to the game until this last year. What I discovered was a solid and catchy soundtrack to the game. I checked OC and alas, there was nothing! I took it upon myself to give one of these tracks an upgrade. If anything, for my personal listening pleasure. Maria's theme was my choice, because I love Happy Music! I made it my goal to keep that emotion present throughout the entire mix. I didn't want to distract the listener with over zealous drum beats, or bore them with a drawn out trance piece, so I kept it short and sweet. I hope you enjoy it, thank you.

  22. I, composerzane, made this remix in about 4-5 hours. It's based on the introductory music of the game, which I believe is called Introduction (I don't have the soundtrack). However, the mix only utilizes the opening piano part and the string part (now synths, with some changes) and uses that as the backdrop for a ambi-trance(?!)-ish offering. Jeremy Soule is the man.
