  1. Count me in for attending. Looking forward to pizza.
  2. I have a 150-in-1 famicom cart.. I also had a 64-in-1 cart, but I think I lost it at some point. There were 3-4 mech games on the cart; I can run through them next time I go back home.
  3. Why couldn't they have gotten it back up /before/ I moved and lost internet to the stupid machine.. I suppose now I'll have to buy internets.. or trek it over to a friend's place or something.
  4. It looks/plays/feels rather similar to the planning stage of the missions in Rainbow Six. Not an entire game, but similar things have been done. The scale and execution really make it shine though.
  5. you plan out each 5 second turn in advance and then things happen-- you don't have any active control while you watch your dudes die
  6. http://www.frozensynapse.com (and/or on steam) If anyone else thought the planning stages were the best part of the Rainbow Six games, buy this. 2 keys for $20; so spread the love or organize some group buys. Mostly, I just want to support good indie games and also get more people to play with. Anyone who cares about music- 'Critically-acclaimed electronica soundtrack by musician nervous_testpilot' whoever that is..
  7. 3d is a gimmick primarily pushed by hardware manufacturers which doesn't add much to the experience of a game. As the technology stands now, you don't really get any better fidelity with the 3d (quite the contrary, actually, as the machine must do 2x the work). It's a fad that I hope will run its course, much to the dismay of said hardware manufacturers. The thought controllers suffer the unfortunate need to calibrate specifically for each action. This means that games can not adapt to your 'fear' unless you can show it 'fear' at will. It's neat for tech demos where you levitate rocks, but I doubt an expensive and fragile headset will replace tried and true controllers. For some games, such as fighters, some (myself among them) would argue that the experience would be dulled if you didn't have the tactile feel of controllers. Both of these are gimmicks, and neither seem entirely appealing for my gaming experience. I put these on the same unfortunate level as the 'tactile feedback vests' for FPS and the like that make you feel getting shot. They're entirely irrelevant and help little with immersion if at all.
  8. I don't see the need to play on the same team as friends. Are people that insecure about playing a game? All-talk is on, so it's not like you're stopping them from chatting with their buddies. Then again, I'm also not convinced auto-join would fix all of the team stacking problems, but w/e.
  9. http://disney.go.com/tron/ http://www.reddit.com/r/Music/comments/csqg8/new_daft_punk_songs_from_tron/ reddit link has youtube links, which avoid some advert stuff enjoy
  10. While Sessler may not have the game knowledge of the earlier commentators, he is better trained for the task than anyone else in that room other than Seth Killian. His questions brought out a deeper commentary on the game rather than the rote dictation we saw earlier in the weekend. Add to this that the finals will likely be broadcast on G4TV, where he is an authoritative figure among an audience that wouldn't be able to follow the aforementioned rote dictation, and the reason for his commentating should become obvious.
  11. i'd love to play some CS:S, i think the problem is that no one plays because no one is playing
  12. I recall that Calamity Trigger was rather popular with several of us, so I'd like to remind everyone that the update is hitting the US late next month. Oh, v-13 is apparently coming back as DLC even though she was axed/nerfed in the arcade release. More importantly, Makoto will also be available as DLC and will grace us with ample under-boob. I may have a new main. http://www.destructoid.com/squirrel-girl-makoto-comes-to-blazblue-via-dlc-177374.phtml If anyone wants to grab an import copy of the game around the first and tell everyone what we're missing out on-- that'd be awesome.
  13. I hear it's like Red Baron, only with peanuts characters. Wish I still had a 360 to check it out. D:
  14. Fine, I'll dig through the sodding document and point to specific articles for you. Here I assumed most people knew what the DMCA did in general. EDIT (HERE): SEC: 1201.E `(2) No person shall manufacture, import, offer to the public, provide, or otherwise traffic in any technology, product, service, device, component, or part thereof, that-- `(A) is primarily designed or produced for the purpose of circumventing a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under this title; `( has only limited commercially significant purpose or use other than to circumvent a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under this title; or `© is marketed by that person or another acting in concert with that person with that person's knowledge for use in circumventing a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under this title. || There are provisions for libraries or other congressionally approved archives, but none for the home consumer. EDIT 2: figured i'd throw in a link for anyone having trouble looking up the law http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c105:H.R.2281.ENR:
  15. You are allowed to backup your game, but I believe the bios/region chips/etc on the PSX are protected under the DMCA and you may not legally bypass them. Hence why said necessities are not packaged with the emulators, even if they are required for use (this is why BLEEM got sued, etc).
  16. it is NOT legal to use the backed up bios and use it to play games on your PC though.. hurray DMCA?
  17. I believe you have the right of it; however, it is never legal to rip the bios from the PSX (or pirate it from the webs) so playing PSX games on your PC is illegal no matter what you do. No consumer has ever been sued for it though, much like playing DVDs on your computer (which you also aren't allowed to do).
  18. i have some retarded friends; he probably nuked the guys box or something
  19. anyone have experience with the nook? i've been thinking about picking up a reader this summer, and the interface seems nicer than sony's or amazon's. my only real concern is compatible formats.
  20. I'll probably start playing weekends on PS3 shortly-- want to cut through some of my backlog before I get involved in a recurring online game though..
  21. I will not be attending, but from my experience anyone who will be going should be careful with their gear. Lots of friends with laptops ripped from their hands then jumped on/etc.. Shortlist of things you should do: leave your laptops in your hotel room/car turn off wireless/networking on your cell phones actually, just turn off your cell altogether, far too much shit that people can do if they want to, know how, and are bored
  22. here's about 1h30m of game footage with commentary/jokes/etc from the giant bomb guys.. http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-live-super-street-fighter-iv/17-2233/ news for me: my game will improve greatly; vega's ultra I now hits on the way up, some combos look easier to link, etc
  23. I was looking forward to this game for a while, until I saw that vid with the crazy sword a few weeks ago.. Guess I'll have to wait and see how the game seems at launch.
  24. No, it means that MW3 development will not be led by the visionaries behind CoD. Most people won't even know the difference. The part of the suit where they want to maintain 'ownership' (though, not really ownership..) is probably more of a ploy to set up bargaining chips for the inevitable settlement. I look forward to the game these guys are going to be working on, and fully expect EA to pick up whatever studio they create soon.
