  1. Someone should totally finish that metal Ice Cap Zone ReMix. That was an awesome song.

I agree. Heck, I'd love to see the Metal Ice Cap Zone with Male Vocals finished just to see what funny lyrics could be added. If it gets to be too much.....that's what OLR is for. It was a funny joke, but playing along and pretending to be fooled was even better. I wonder how many were playing along like me.

  2. Gray Lightning. I think that says it all on the quality of the ReMix itself, but is not even close. It's better! I like the Oriental feeling of this mix, especially since this combines two of my favorite things: Epic Asian Movie sounding stuff and Fear Factory's theme. Although the source doesn't seem to pop up as much as I'd hoped, I can't gripe at all at after hearing this. Sweet!

  3. Decided to give the GBA version a good listen to when I realized the list of songs up for grabs for the GBA version is incomplete. Stilt Village and Waterfall are missing from the list.

Stilt Village in particular would be a huge miss, since I consider it to be one of the better ones in the GBA version.

Also the credits, but that was just a medley of the other songs so not sure if that counts.

You're talking about Cascade Capers (Waterfall) and Lakeside Limbo (Stilt Village). Some of the songs on the GBA soundtrack had different names from the SNES. So, with that said, I can assure you that Emunator didn't leave those great themes out. :)!! Good catch, though.

  4. It doesn't take a fan to potentially make a good game movie. It takes people who are willing to look into the history of the franchise, see the stories and characters, and be willing to use all of the mythos that franchise has to offer in building the script. From there, it takes people who are actually good at their craft... be it acting, directing, cinematography, whatever. And then of course, you need people who are good at special effects, set design and so forth.

The problem with game movies, is that most of the time there are several of those things missing. They might find decent actors, or get some nice shots, but the majority of what gets laid to film feels like everyone was slacking off... they it was just being done for a paycheck (i.e. anything by/for Uwe Boll).

There's nothing that says a fan will be good at writing, acting, directing, or any other aspect of making a film. Being a fan doesn't make that person skilled. You just need people who really care about their craft enough to be good at it, regardless of what the source of their movie is.

Well, yeah, I didn't mean any clueless no-skill fan. I meant people who are good at what you said (like actually making movies, writing, etc.) knowing enough about the series or game to make something decent and maybe having some prior experience with the game. I'm just saying that if they know what it's about, they'll hopefully avoid another SMB and SF2.

  5. In all honesty, a Castlevania movie *could* be done well, but it would take a director and screenwriter who is both a fan of the games AND creative with a script in order to give the appropriate amount of fanservice, while also adhering to classic monster-movie and action movie sub-tropes.

(obviously I want post-MK Paul S. Anderson to stay the HELL away. Thank god he's no longer associated)

I think it takes a fan and creative script writers to make ANY game movie, seeing as how most of them done by people who aren't fans suck.

I'd like to see Mega Man X or Zero done with a Movie. Anyone remember that anime thing that came with the remake of MMX? If they did something like that, it might work. In all seriousness, almost anything could work if you know what you are doing.

  6. I was thinking about starting up the speedrun competition that unmod had going on probably in 2006 or so again. This feels like a good place to interest mill, it being a speedrun thread and all.

Basically the idea is it's a simple weekly pissing contest, we start off with a game, DKC for instance, and we just run the game, cart or emulator doesn't really matter, I just ask that nobody would play through tool assisted cause that's just stupid. The thread will limit every player to 3 practice runs and a legit timer run, and we'll just use the trust system to post results. The winner of each week gets to pick the next game, but they can't compete in the game that they select, they can however post their record time for bragging rights.

So yeah the easiest way to circumvent cheating is to have no real reward other than picking the next week's game that you can't even compete in. Rules for game selection are fairly simple, something no longer than an hour or two tops, and not too hard or terrible.

Anyone think this is a good idea?

I love the idea, and that "reward/stop people from lying" idea is pretty cool too. So if it happens, I'm in (if I have the game we start on, that is.)

  7. The beginning with the screeching eagle was the perfect way to start off this ReMix. I don't mind the fact that this is a bit slower than normal, as the guitars shredding out through it is done really well. The only problem I have is that the real slow part at the end seems to come up out of nowhere, like their is little to no transition.

  8. Oh man, this is just too sweet! Taucer, Hale-bopp and Jose the Bronx Rican doing a remix on the Mine theme of DKC2!? That's what got me hyped for the album, but when I heard the early verison on DoD, I couldn't get any more excited. I really don't understand people who back away from a vocal remix without giving it a listen, but I love the lyrics and tone of the whole song. I really don't have any complaints about this ReMix, and I'm thinking this made the Top Ten List for me.

  9. Cool. I always liked Protricity's ReMix, but this takes it in a pretty cool direction. Jazzy and more "Jungley". Is it wrong for me to say that some parts remind me of those "Local on the 8's" themes on the Weather Channel, but in a good way? It's soothing and relaxing, I love it. Kinda funny how this theme annoyed me to no end when I tried to get through the Lost World, but this is so chill.

  10. Great music heals all wounds, and this is more than great, it's absolutely astonishing! (Ha, you thought I was going to say amazing, didn't you?) Virt did really well with this ReMix, and I always thought this song had Trance written all over it, but I never realized how much of an upgrade it would have been. Now the climax isn't the only thing I can listen to, as the trance beats give the lower sections their own spotlight. Nice!

  11. Only four songs in, and this is probably going to be one of my top three favorite songs on this album! I mean, come on, I've waited for this track ever since I saw the ReMixers doing it! Nicole and Injury, the amazing girls that did my favorite OCR song Permutation doing another DKC song with Tepid's work and Ault's sweet vocals added. It's a good day, indeed! I never imagined this as a vocal song, but the justice brought onto it was so better than I would have thought. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to hear it on the radio, because the music and lyrics flow so well. Much ReSpect to the ReMixers of this project.
