  2. I like it a lot, actually. I like the polyrhythm after 1;06 It's just my personal opinion that the beat after 1:06 is almost too broken. But it isn't necessarily a bad thing, just my taste, It's also a little too straight some times after 1:55, it's pretty close to 4/4 there, which isn't bad, just isn't typical of dub IMO

  4. Sure, why not. Pay no mind to my previous hardcore ways... just as I don't have to do what you say, you don't have to take me seriously either. But you guys have showed me how to meet in the middle. So by all means, if we want to discuss it, lets.
  5. Well you're right. I simply have a different approach. When I stop a project, it is stopped, unless I decide otherwise. I do accept feedback about it but I apply that feedback to the next project. You eventually have to stop changing things. I just do it earlier than most I guess.

  7. Again, thank you. And I apologize. I can be overly sensitive. Personally, for me, it's not about knowledge but capability of knowledge. I know I can learn and I know where to look to learn if I feel like it. I understand what you say. I'm just a lazy ass. That's the only excuse. I just need to accept that I am lazy and stop taking things personally.
  8. Or really, what tripped me up is phrases like "use some reverb" That is a command to me. I do not take well to commands. And yes I'm that picky about phrases. I apologize if it's all a misunderstanding.
  9. You are projecting your opinion onto me and what skills I may or may not have, which is why I am being reactionary. You are assuming what I know or don't know. I don't know a lot but I may know more than you give me credit for, even if I still know less than you. Just tell me what you hear in your opinion. I'm fine with that. When you start implying my intent (which is impossible for you to know) or a perceived lack of knowledge over implementation, then yeah, I'm going to back up my stuff.
  10. I'm not excited, I'm just assertive. And I'm not defensive, I'm simply being accurate with my point of view. I do hear things. Which is actually a pain in the ass to me. How real am I supposed to get as long as I'm still hearing that it isn't real? Or even the fact when I KNOW it isn't real? I'm just not one of these people who strives for realism out of synthesis. I understand it, I know it is hard work, I just can't be arsed. If I want real guitars so badly, I'd be going pro, and if I were pro, I'd just get a guitar or ask/hire somebody who has the skill. Emulating instruments is a legitimate and useful science, but to me it isn't worth the effort.
  11. I've figured it out, I simply don't care. It's all synth waves to me. I hear every piece and say "That's fake. This is fake. That's fake." It just simply is what it is. It may have an 'epic feel' but that doesn't change what it is. It's far from organic to me. My version, to me, sounds more organic. Perhaps not real, but still more organic. I definitely used more non-linear approximation in the waves. I tend to hear everything unless it is entirely mush (or orchestra, which is basically like one huge instrument in a way, IMO) and I prefer to hear everything at times.
  12. Yup. And I apologize if I came across smarmy. I have a short attention span. I usually hammer things out in one sitting (this particular one only took about 6 hours) I'm in a habit where I really hate it when I have something I realllllly like, then I try to fiddle with it more and then fook it up and can't quite get it back the way it was. So eventually I stop and say "no more" Maybe if I had better equipment I'd be more attentive to details but all I have is FL Studio. I don't even have a MIDI keyboard. Not that it's an excuse but it isn't exactly an incentive for me either.
  13. More an instrument edit than a remix (I did improv the end a little though) Best I could get out of the Slayer plugin... for the work I put into it anyway (very little) Thanks for the input. I heard all of this when I made it though. I just can't be arsed after a certain point :< I was like "this cymbal sounds weird over here-oh screw it" Heh. Plus I grow tired of hearing 'perfect' stuff.

  15. Oh, almost forgot. Stuff like reverb effects can cause these problems also, so keep that in mind. I'm not sure if you used verb (your Ode sounds like it may have reverb but I could be wrong because of artifacts) but just remember, jumping too heavily into effects too early in the process can slaughter what would otherwise be a passable mix. (I know because I do it ALL THE TIME )
  16. Yeah, I took a look at it in audacity, and you're pretty much as high as you'll want to go. Here's a pic of the wave form of your track (the Doom one) It looks worse than it actually is because I have it zoomed out, so bear that in mind. But you are pretty much at the max desirable output here, you can see that by the fact that the blue wave goes all the way to the top and bottom of each channel (remember though, it's zoomed out so it looks 10 times worse) So really, you won't be able to make it go much louder without clipping. The way you have it is pretty good actually, you might even want to cut back a hair (because I do think you are still getting clipping in some spots) So you'll probably need to look at other things to find the problem you seem to be having.
  17. Id say db wise the loudness is sufficient, but you might need to readjust the mixing levels if you are using a limiter on the main. I think I detect some clipping there too maybe... but I'm not sure. Using a limiter on the main, you have to make sure the limit isn't inadvertently triggered. I've had similar problems where the guitar or lead or whatever won't go loud enough, but it's actually caused by something else tripping the limiter - like snares, kicks, maybe even bass, or whatever. So you may have to adjust your mixing track levels by ear as well. Limiters and mb compressors are great, but it's good practice to try and mix without them initially, shouldn't be relied on as a crutch IMO. Plus that helps you learn what they do. Also are you listening to other songs on the same setup that you use to compose? It's a good idea to listen to them in the same program or whatever, because the decoder used or program settings can be an issue too. Edit: Also, loudness in db is not always the same as what you might perceive with your ear - that depends on frequency, band width, and loudness together. A well defined band will have more prominence. This track is db loud, to me, but not very distinct or dynamic (IMO) Your ear can't always cope with certain sound forms, and some times will refuse to cope with them (fatigue)

  19. Depends on the game and who is playing it. Like in one MMO I play a female character, and am in a guild that has a lot of female players so we know there is no "no girls on the internet" rule. In Quake 2 I played the male character online... If I like the way a male character looks I might play it just so I can look at him. Otherwise it depends on my mood. Some times I regret picking a female character, because I get harassed by noobs. Either because they think girls don't play, or because they realize I am actually a girl so they want to hit on me or whatever. Otherwise, I don't care what people think I am, usually. I'm a bit anti-social (if I haven't made it obvious by now haha)
  20. I like it so far! I love filthy sounds (and dubstep!) I can't say much more because it's early yet, but keep at it! I'd surely like to hear what you do next.
  21. This sounds more like tinnitus than mere fatigue. You might need a vacation from music, seriously. It's not only loudness that damages your ears, but constant sound can too. If these noises with no source continue after you take a break for a while, you may want to see a doctor about it.
  22. Not that I know anything about anything, but... Orchestra instruments have a LOT of harmonics. I don't know much about electronic production and manipulation (yet) but I do understand the harmonics of instruments. They are incredibly hard to engineer. Personally, I'd compare it to a human brain vs. AI. The complexity and richness of the brain is disproportionate to it's form, it's just a mass of tissue when you look at it. But is far more complex than any machine we can make. So anyway, that's mostly what creates the orchestra sound - harmonics and acoustics. You either need live instruments, (easy way) or emulate live instruments (the really hair pulling bang head on wall way) It's made easier by harmonic exciters (expensive! AFAIK) in conjunction with good reverb controls.
  23. I'm listening on a kind of bad setup right now so take what I say with a truckload of salt. Well, I like it! I think maybe you went too far the 'other way' on my suggestion with the opening bass (though the new change it creates is interesting!) comes in at like :31 or :32 What I had said before was more to do with the band width and placement of the bass, wasn't really all that audible (so maybe I shouldn't have said! haha) so now it might need fattening or be in between what it was and what it is, somewhere. But I like where the 'double bass' drops in after 1:00, it sounds good thereafter. And the long string sections could maybe be a good place for effects, like a filter, flanger or phaser. Seems like a nice spot to 'demo' something. And again, my opinions (opinions currently being made in a system that has problems in itself)
  24. Ahh, ok. That's what I thought o.o (and what I did) but still got comments about my mixing (which was intentionally and knowingly done) so I kind of started getting flipped out wondering if there really is something I'm not hearing (rather than a choice I made) Not that I'm a pro or anything, but just good to know I at least had the right idea.   25. Right, I got that part, works the same as db levels on the peak meter (relatively standardized). But like say with flat EQ, my bass recording sounds too weak, so I adjust the EQ on the recording. Would that be the wrong thing to do? Especially if my speakers/headphones are somehow bad? Or possibly even 'too good'? How can I tell if they are bad when everything sounds good? o.o Like if you have headphones that make less low frequency than usual, raising the low frequency to what sounds normal could make it too much when heard through a different set... or maybe I'm thinking too much. Edit: I think I know how to solve my question. This is probably the best mixing job I have done recently (as far as levels go, it's an instrument edit) So maybe people can tell me how the levels are and I'll have a known reference.
